Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Ever tell your friends "Sure feels like rain today!" and wish you had some facts to back it up? Well, the Dr. Friedrichs Gruppe weather station provides all the basics in a classy, rugged package. This miniature weather station includes a hygrometer (for measuring humidity), a thermometer (temperature), and a barometer (atmospheric pressure). They're all calibrated for accuracy and are easy to read under daytime conditions. The solid stainless-steel station is designed with simple elegance in mind, and you can mount it just about anywhere because an overhanging rain shield keeps the gauges clear and the instruments protected. So the next time you need to plan that weekend barbecue and want a little more information than your local news has to offer, take a quick look at this weather station and make your own forecast.

Product Description

This contemporary designed weather station features three measuring instruments: a thermometer, hygrometer and barometer, mounted on a stainless steel frame. These instruments are precise and accurate, while offering a stylish gray facing with chrome dials. It can be used either on the exterior or in the interior of your home. Also, an adjustable dial has been added to the barometer gauge. Users may position the dial to the current barometric pressure and thus track future changes. What is a weather station? A weather station usually consists of three measuring gauges: thermometer, hygrometer, and barometer. The thermometer measures the temperature, that is, the idea of measuring relative hotness and coldness; the hygrometer measures the atmospheric humidity, that is, the moisture content in the atmosphere; the barometer measures the atmospheric pressure, that is the force exerted on a surface of unit area by the weight of the atmosphere. With these three sensors together, an accurate weather prediction can be made from the comfort of your own home.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay Away... Nice looking, but VERY cheaply made, January 14, 2001

This review is from: Torka 850600 Stainless Steel Weather Station (Lawn & Patio)
I've never been compelled to write a review of a product, good or bad. However, I was so disappointed with this item I had to write a review. Now, I have never heard of or seen these weather stations before so I didn't know what to expect. From the picture I really liked the way it looked.

Once it arrived I was immediately disappointed. When I opened the box it was in pieces. That may be the way they are shipped, but it didn't seem like it should have been. There were many little loose pieces floating around the box. Some of the pieces were damaged and bent. The pieces are very flimsy and cheap so even if they weren't damaged in shipping they would be damaged with the lightest touch.

When ordering, I assumed the lenses covering the dials were going to be glass. Well, they were plastic. That wouldn't be so bad, but the plastic was hazy and badly scratched.

Stay away from this product. I didn't test the accuracy of the meters because as soon as I saw what it was made of and its condition I put it right back in the box. It may be the most accurate wether station on the market, but I was so disappointed about how cheaply made it was I'll never know. I have no idea how the Amazon reviewer could say that this is a "rugged package."

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing, February 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Torka 850600 Stainless Steel Weather Station (Lawn & Patio)
... When I opened the box, one of the plastic instrument covers had already fallen off. Just looking at the station in person, I could see it was cheaply made, but I did set it outside for a test. The gauges are not accurate, particularly the humidity gauge, which consistantly registered way off. I immediately packed the thing back up for a speedy return.

I might add that this is the only time I have ever been dissatisfied with the quality of any product sold by Amazon. I hope that they choose to carry a wall mount weather station of a higher quality in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for home use, January 15, 2001

The materials are a little cheaper than I expected, with liberal use of plastics. The accuracy seems okay. The thermometer seems quite accurate, but the other 2 change when the I tap the frame. The humidity guage was way off when I got it. The first test, putting it outside on a very humid day, caused it to go over 120%! It is very hard to adjust, with slight touches on the adjusting screws making very large guage changes, and after you let go, it immediately changes again.

There are no included specifications to determine the supposed accuracy of the guages either. So it is better than others for home use, but not recommended for precision.
