Addison's Score Seems to Fit ths Hitchcock Film, December 9, 2008
This review is from: Torn Curtain (1966 Film) (Audio CD)
Despite the fact that Hitchcock fired Bernard Herrmann and also severed their friendship over the score to TORN CURTAIN, John Addison's score strangely fits this film. I enjoy listening to this soundtrack quite a bit. It's smooth flowing theme which is rather ethereal is used throughout this soundtrack and it is a bit catchy. The love theme is pretty light and mundane. After hearing Elmer Bernstein's recording of Herrmann's unused score I definitely feel the difference in tone. And then when Herrmann's score is put to certain scenes on the TORN CURTAIN DVD, I was able to get the full effect of just how different TORN CURTAIN would have been. I am a big Bernard Herrmann fan but I have always had a soft spot for this soundtrack. This soundtrack is worth having just the same. It is what it is.

Classic Hitchcockian film music, February 6, 2001
This review is from: Torn Curtain (1966 Film) (Audio CD)
John Addison composed and conducted the score to the 1966 film "Torn Curtain," directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock, and that score is made available on this CD. This music effectively captures the romance and danger of Hitchcock's unique vision. Beginning with the exciting, energetic main title, Addison moves on to capture many moods in music. Other good selections on the CD include the romantic, yet playful love theme; "Behind the Curtain," with its touch of mystery; and the unnerving, yet curiously lovely "Introduction to Pi." Although the music for "Torn Curtain" is not the greatest of the scores written for Hitchcock's films, it is still a fine piece of work that belongs in the collection of any serious film score collector.

A Mix Between Hitchcock and James Bond, January 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Torn Curtain (1966 Film) (Audio CD)
When I first saw this movie I was hoping there was a soundtrack to it, and to my relief, here it was. I got it for Christmas and I just loved it. I admit that it is short, but it goes on for quite a while and you'll start to like the song at the end of the album. The only thing that kind of made me mad was that they edited the bus theme so badly, but I don't pay any attention anymore, I just love this CD.
