I am writing this review to include information I would have liked to know but wasn't up when I bought. The usable surface area of the "flat" part of the curve is just about five inches. Also, the only hardware included is made for folks putting these in drywall, so if you're putting them in wood, be prepared to drill a 1/4" hole (it's bigger than it sounds). That is, you need an electric drill and bit to install directly in wood.Once installed, they are great. Very sturdy. All I could find locally were those hooks with screw ends. I didn't think they would hold up long.

I looked at one negative view but I ignored it since other reviews were positive. I purchased two sets of brackets. I should have listened to the negative review. These are medium quality, light weight brackets. They are NOT made of steel. The screws that come in the package are definitely no good for going into wood. I predrilled the redwood with 1/4 inch holes. When I power drove the screws, the head snapped off. When I drove the screws by hand, the heads stripped. The screws provided appear to be made of aluminum and have a hollow center. Very low strength.I would not buy these again. I should have made my own brackets out of 1/2 galvanized water pipe. They are cheaper, much stronger and resist rust.

Glad to finally find hooks for my ladder that will not bend/break within a couple of years. Highly recommend these.

I purchased these hooks to hang a heavy 8 foot step ladder. I wanted hooks that had metal back plate. You can mount these in whatever, provided you use the proper anchors. I was mainly interested in the hook, I had planned to use my own anchors. The hooks are fine, no issues with them. The included screws are basically low quality drywall anchors. They are probably ok for mounting into drywall with a very light load. The marketing on the package seem to be focused on these screws. Use common sense, and the appropriate anchors for the job. For my application, I used toggle bolts to mount one hook in drywall. The second hook was mounted into drywall + wood stud with 2 inch screws.

The hooks is strong and sturdy. The aluminum screws they give you are crap. The tip of one of the screws broke off halfway into the wall stud. That meant I couldn't put another screw in the same place since the broken piece plugged up the whole, plus, I couldn't get it out. So I had to hang in another, less desirable place. The problem is that there aren't other viable options that I saw. Again, the hook is good. But I recommend using your own screws.

Nothing Special,

This product does what it is supposed to but the mounting screws are strangely oversized and mad from a rather soft metal that strips easy. It was easier to get a regular screw and washer than send the product back.

As you may read in other reviews, the fasteners are poor quality. They are cast, and most of them can be driven in just fine, but some of them will break. When they do, there's just about no way to get the stub out and no source for replacements if you do.They might work very well in sheet rock; I wouldn't know. Just don't trust the fasteners in wood. And, yes, of course I pre-drilled per the instructions.

They are quite substantial and work very well for their designed purpose. They appear to be able to grip virtually and surface you can drill a hole into...very nice.

First off, I'd like to say, very impressed with the Sunday delivery of this item. I found it incredibly easy to install/follow installation directions, and it's a super solid product. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in looking for a solid, strong, easy to install ladder hook. Great price too!

Hooks are strong, fasteners are junk.,

I bought a pair of these ladder hooks to hang a 24' extension ladder. I was attaching the hooks directly to 2x4 studs in my garage, pre-drilled with the proper bit per the directions and 2 of the 6 screws snapped off at the head before they were fully driven-in. The hooks themselves are great: they feel strong, have a rubberized coating which should prevent damage and slipping, and they're deep enough to hold the ladder. But the fasteners are junk. If I'm ever presented with the need to move the hooks, I'll buy different fasteners (maybe pan-head lag screws by Spax).
