4.0 out of 5 stars Destruction & devastation fun - appropriate for all, December 25, 2009

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tornado Outbreak (Video Game)
Found this @ CD Tradepost yesterday & bought on whim - been playing since and although the storyline is shaky (save the world by becoming a big destructive tornado), it is truly fun to go around sucking up bigger & bigger stuff and flattening barnyards, army bases, etc. Kids & adults enjoying the random, self-directed fun (my 9yo is a bit challenged but likes it a lot). If you enjoyed Da Blob, this ought to be up your alley to some extent...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Tornado Hit The Gameplay, March 10, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Tornado Outbreak (Video Game)
I picked this game up, because it's the closest thing to Katamari on the Wii. I thought, "A tornado game where you pick up objects to become bigger? Sweet!" It's an interesting concept, indeed, but this is somewhat distracted not long after playing when you realize that they couldn't stop with that concept.

The story centers around Wind Warriors, and you play as one who looks suspiciously like Astro Boy. You start out basically picking up everything on sight to become a bigger tornado to pick up bigger objects before moving on. Zones are blocked by the light of the sun, where tornadoes avoid, so in order to proceed, you have to complete the objectives. Simple enough, but the problem is there's a story: and in this story you have to go up against some fire minions. Still not too bad, but then you have to collect fifty of them scattered throughout the level, beat a timer, and get to a portal somewhere in the level before time runs out. I thought this was just one or two levels, but so far it's been every level. It becomes very tedious.

There are boss battles in the game. Each boss is a totem, for some reason. You have to get through some obstacles like rays of light, for instance, to get to the totems and then pummel them with your Wii Remote by waggling. It's not bad, and it's a change in gameplay, but then your thrusted into another generic level.

For a concept like being a tornado, I expected better from Tornado Outbreak and the geniuses over at Konami. It's not a bad game, and definitely worth a look. Don't expect anything groundbreaking and you may enjoy this little title.
