Far too good to be a great success,

Ever since I heard my first Rainmakers song, probably Downstream, I have loved them. Everyone I know that has ever seen them, loves them. But, they could never get the following they deserve. Yes, WAGES OF SIN, and TORNADO OF LOVE are fantastic.
But, at this point in my life, I was re-listening, and SMALL CIRCLES hit home... Now we make money and we're alright And we drive cars and wield our might We make love to people that we don't even like As we move in small circles.

I bought this on cassette when I was in high school. I haven't listened to it in probably 6 years, but I can sing you all the words to "The Wages of Sin" to this day. I loved this album.

A criminally under-rated band...,

I found this cd in the used cd bin and i picked it up because I have heard the song "Snakedance" before. It was worth every penny, i'm suprised the Rainmakers weren't popular at all back when they came out. Highly recommended.

Danceable hook ridden midwest rock that made the mistake of actually trying to say something.,

This is one of my very favorite CDs of all time. I only know about this band because I was once on a consulting engagement in Kansas City where they were played on the FM rock station. That said, if you order a copy and it has only the eleven original songs from the album, you got hornswoggled. There is a version out there on BAT records with eight bonus tracks. And they are a bonus indeed. Maybe looky on the band's own wob sit.

The Rainmakers follow up to their debut in '86, "Tornado"#116, wasn't as good, but it had some great tracks nothingless. Led by "Tornado Of Love", "One More Summer", the track that I think is their best on this album "I Talk With My Hands" and the beautiful ballad "No Romance". They also had their only hit on this album, with the carbon copy of "Let My People Go Go", with "Snakedance" #31 modern rock. "Tornado" is good but it doesn't hold up like their amazing 1st album.

Another Great Rainmakers Album,

Another great album for the little-known Kansas City bank from the 1980's. Although many say this album on a national label for them was not as good as expected and signaled the end for them, I disagree and think it is still a great album to listen to and carries on the style they always had, whether as the Rainmakers or predecessor Steve Bob & Rich. I would recommend.

I haven't thought about this band in years, then "Small Circles" popped up on my Pandora radio. After The Rainmakers broke up, Bob used to play at the Buzzard Beach when I worked there, and even my black and jaded soul never tired of hearing these songs over and over.
Bouncy tunes, a cool horn section and lyrics that can make you laugh out loud one minute and break your heart the next.

I was working at London's in KC when the album release party was held for them, great show, the place was packed. I went out and bought the cassette, yes casette, it was a while ago. Music still great to this day, a great live show in a smaller venue. Too bad they are underappreciated!

I like what this band is doing. They have their own unique style. Songs such as "Wages of Sin" seem to indicate these guys clearly know what they're doing, and doing it right.

Bob Walkenhorst and Co. are in fine stride on "Tornado". It has both the trademark reflective honesty and the biting wit and sarcasm that we've grown to know and love by The Rainmakers. Walkenhorst is one of the most brilliant lyricists anytime anyplace anywhere. Give one listen to "Tornado" and you'll see what I mean. If you've never heard the Makers, Bob's strong midwestern accent may take you aback at first, but after the 1st few tunes, you couldn't hear these tunes any other way and it becomes a beloved character of the band. The expirementation of the band is also to be commended.
