1.0 out of 5 stars Toro 7 Amp Power Sweep
I have owned a Toro Blower / Vac for 12 years and loved it. Light, powerful and smooth / low vibration motor. It needs to be repaired. Rather than doing that I ordered a new one. It looks great but the vibration is so intense that one could not operate it for five minutes without one's hand going numb. I checked with the manufacturer who advised that I take it to a local...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, December 1, 2008

This review is from: Toro 51585 Power Sweep 7 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower (Lawn & Patio)
We recently acquired an property with a lot of leafy trees and this is my first blower. When the shipment arrived, I thought that Amazon shipped the wrong item because it came in a tiny box. Snap the tube on, connect the cord and it's ready to use.

The power switch is somewhat touchy. When trying to select low speed, it is easy to accidentally bump it into high speed. I accidentally blasted away a bunch of bark and made a crater. Oops. During low speed use, it's also easy to accidentally bump the power switch to off.

The power receptacle is mounted on a short cable tail on the back end. I have several other lawn tools that have the receptacle integrated into the shell with a hook to retain the cord and I prefer that arrangement. When you reach the end of the extension cord, it disconnects easily and cuts power. There's also no strain relief so I think that eventually I will be repairing this short section of cord.

Although it looks and feels like a toy, it seems to work well on flat surfaces and bark, but struggles a little with leaves in wet grass. It just takes longer but still gets it done. I also used it to clear the gutters of leaves and it worked well. I removed the tube making it even smaller and lighter. There were a few times when the thrust nearly knocked me off the ladder.

Noise level is excellent, especially on low. Think giant hairdryer. It is much lighter, quieter and not smelly compared to the big gas blowers.

I was originally considering the Toro Ultra, but I was unsure how much vacuuming and mulching I would do and wanted something lighter, less expensive, and less cumbersome.

This works better than advertised -- I use it to clear my backyard, patio, driveway, it even knocks spiderwebs off the house and garage walls!
Thank goodness it has two speeds -- the higher setting is too strong for some tasks! I actually look for excuses to use this tool.

Don't waste your money on 12 amp versions or so called 200+ mph electric blowers for home use. The 7 Amp Toro Model 5185 Power Sweep 2 Speed is perfect for most yard clean up jobs. Light with a shorter flow tube, the 51585 makes it easy to get around planting areas with excellent air control flow.

5.0 out of 5 stars LEAF BLOWER WORKS GREAT, November 9, 2008

This is a great product for women...light weight and easy to use. I purchased it for leaves and it does the job very well...I really like the dual speed also. I use almost all electric outdoor equipment because the gas run things are just too heavy to handle. I will be using it to clean the walls in the garage as well as on the house and I am sure I will find other uses too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toro power sweep, October 26, 2008
This review is from: Toro 51585 Power Sweep 7 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower (Lawn & Patio)
Love this blower. I had another Toro electric blower; but, after many years of use it finally gave out. I replaced it with this blower which is even better. The two speeds make it easy to get in behind pots at the slow speed and the driveway on high. Easy to use and fairly light.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally - I put my broom away, December 29, 2008

This review is from: Toro 51585 Power Sweep 7 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower (Lawn & Patio)
I have an open, cement patio that is constantly covered with seeds, leaves, dirt and more. It takes a long time to sweep with a broom, so often only part of it gets done. When I saw an add for the Toro Power Sweep, I had to get it. It does a great job, and so much faster. We also have a large white pine which overhangs the driveway. It almost continuously drops old needles, many on the driveway. Just a little blowing with the Toro, and the driveway is clean. The only problem for me - it is a little heavier than I thought it would be. But compared with using a broom, I'd take this Toro any day.

This is an excellent product and it has performed very nicely in the service to date. It is very powerful--even blew the old paint off my deck!

It is a Giant Blower for the Little Price. 1st get you 2-100 feet of 12 ga. extension cord. You could get by with 14 or 16 ga, but I like the bigger ga.It will last a lot longer (No melt down). The Blower does not have a 3 prong ground plug. It has a 2 prong conection. Simple to put together & keep the air intake clean. Plenty of air blowing (160 mph). A week after I got it, It was at Lowes for $33,95 + tax. With No tax & free shipping, & I live 30 miles from Lowes,I think I still came out better with gas what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light, powerful leaf sweeper, December 21, 2008
This review is from: Toro 51585 Power Sweep 7 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower (Lawn & Patio)
This small Toro runs at two speeds and is ideal for patios, driveways and even the lawn when the leaf cover isn't deep or wet. It's light: 5 pounds, and with a 50 foot cord, I can reach everything I need to handle my patio, to blow out the garage since leaves blow in when the doors are open, and to gather larger amounts of leaves to be put on a tarp or bagged. Excellent tool for those frequent light jobs when you don't want to bother with heavy, bulky equipment. With two speeds, it handles everything from gently blowing leaves out of flower beds to rounding up leaves for bagging.
