5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as Ultra
This Unit is very good price and works well. I know many like the ultra because of the metal impellar. I work at a place that sells this unit for 60 dollars, paid 33 at Amazon. The metal impellar is not sharp and will still clog with wet leavers. The plastic impellar is just as good and is designed like last year metal impellear found in Toro 51598 model. I would say...

This review is from: Toro 51592 Super 12 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
I've used this as a blower for about 6 months.

However it is spring now and the yard needs some cleanup. I thought I would use my Toro as a vacuum and mulch some leaves.

It lasted about three minutes before it suddenly started shaking uncontrollably. Inspection showed that one of the fins on the (plastic!) impeller had broken off. It is now useless as a blower as well.

If you have a choice, go for the more expensive version with a magnesium (metal) impeller:
Toro Ultra 12 Amp Electric Blower/Vacuum #51599.

I am now ordering a replacement magnesium impeller (SKU TOR-108-8967) from M & D Mower in Ohio for $16.96 (shipping $7.95 to NV).

This is the second time where I have bought the cheaper option of two identical products, and the extra $10 would have saved me a lot of headaches.

If I had to rate this as a blower only, it would get 5 stars, no question.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving it, April 22, 2007
This review is from: Toro 51592 Super 12 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
I just purchased this today. Our store had both this item and the 51591 super blower - I think this is simply the newer model. (And I paid slightly less than this price at our neighborhood store so check around)

Anyhow. I went looking for leaf blowers with no idea that these machines could suck as well as blow. Whether or not I will use the sucking feature, I don't know. I just know the Toros were well rated.

I wanted a blower for one reason. We have this tree in our backyard which I refer to as "The Stupid Tree." It drops these little fuzzy brown balls all over our concrete patio. They are impossible to clean up because they escape between the tines of a rake if you try to rake them, and if you try to sweep them with a broom they smoosh and roll right under the broom.

So I bought this blower and went to work maniacally chasing these little brown balls off the patio and into the yard. I am now a happy girl. Not only is my patio clear of fuzzy brown balls but it is also clean of sand that my son likes to dump here and there. Beautiful. I could have swept with a broom for 2 days and not gotten it as clear as this blower did in 10 minutes.

It is light and easy to hold.

The noise level is no worse than an electric weed wacker or lawn mower. (All of our major lawn implements are electric)

My only complaint is I somehow failed to realize the difference between the super and the ultra is, the ultra has a metal shredder. The super has a plastic shredder. I wish I had realized this and gotten the ultra, but oh well. For blowing fuzzy brown balls and sand off my patio, this works just fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars RECALL needed : Used 3 times - It went up in smoke...service/repair has been problematic, September 7, 2008
This review is from: Toro 51592 Super 12 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
I had a previous version of this blower for 5 years. Worked great until the impeller broke while mulching. I decided to buy the newer version.
I've only used it 3 times only to do some light blowing of leaves and grass.
The motor began to slow and surge ...then began to smoke and spark. Obviously Toro has a quality control problem with these units.
I've had fits trying to get it repaired. I went to Toro's website and local Ace Hardwares store that are supposed to service it are all saying we can't. Since I bought it from Amazon I just can't march back into the store and demand my money back. Be warned..you will have problems if you buy this unit and it needs repair. I will try another brand next time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well until the impeller breaks, March 28, 2010

We have owned the Toro Super Electric Blower for about two years now. Its a two speed blower, and at the time we purchased it, was substantially cheaper than the Ultra. The blower has worked really well, as has the vacuum mulcher. It is also fairly quiet considering the volume of air being moved (sucked up by the impellers and either driven to the leaf collection bag, or to through the blower vent).

But there are a few things to be aware of:
a) Large leaves (eg. maple) can clog the impeller, and have to the manually cleared from the impeller blades. This doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough that it bears mention in this review. Smaller leaves, like live oak leaves, are no problem at all.
b) Don't vacuum wet leaves, or you will discolor the collection bag.
c) Don't vacuum twigs larger than about half a centimeter in diameter, or you will break the plastic impeller.
d) Large acorns will break the impeller.

Over blower-vac worked without any problems for two years. Then it started rattling and vibrated really badly, so I guessed that one of impeller fins/blades must have broken, and sure enough one had. When an impeller fin breaks, the blower will still work fairly well (albeit it becomes very loud and vibrates very badly). However the vacuum will not work well at all.

Luckily, a new impeller from Toro runs about $10, and isn't difficult to install. Overall, not a bad buy at all, and I would recommend it. But I wish Toro made the impeller substantially stronger.

Edited on April 3, 2010: There's a solution to the plastic impeller - a metal impeller. Turns out the Toro magnesium alloy metal impeller sold with model 51599 fits the 51592. It is more expensive than a plastic impeller, but works better than the plastic impeller does at mulching leaves that are picked up. It also doesn't jam as easily as the plastic impeller does with large leaves.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best Electric, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Toro 51592 Super 12 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
It is light and powerful for being electric. Don't buy Black and Decker, my power switch went out and everyone I know that has one had the same problem. Only 4 Stars since Electric, but Cleans my driveway, yard, etc very good. So strong blows away my door mat!!

(by Angela's husband) I love the blower. I often use it on low-speed because that's powerful enough, but sometimes I crank it up to high and let 'er rip. This baby really blows! I don't use the vacuum so I can't comment on that, but the blower is great.

Length:: 0:42 Mins

My wife and I fought over using it because it was so fun to use. It is light but gets the job done (see video). There are two speeds. It will blow wet leaves, but not quite as well obviously. Haven't tried the vacuum part yet. Comes with a bag and an attachment to convert it to vacuum mode.

4.0 out of 5 stars Toro Blower/Vacuum, January 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toro 51592 Super 12 amp 2-Speed Electric Blower/Vacuum (Lawn & Patio)
I bouth this item to replace a 4 year old single-speed cheaper Toro blower in which the motor had burned out. I opted for a more powerful 2-speed motor after borrowing a neighbor's 2-speed blower. This model performs very well. The two speeds are a big plus. The higher speed does a particularly good job on my driveway, which is quite long and nearly year-round covered with organic debris. My only complaints are that on high speed the blower is quite noisy (but much less so than a gasoline powered blower) and the blower is a bit heavy and a little awkward to carry. It takes me about 15 minutes to blow off my porches and driveway. If I had to use this blower for much longer periods I believe it could be fatiguing. I think if the blower were balanced better the weight wouldn't be a factor. It might be difficult for a woman to use. I do not use the vacuum feature. Overall, I am satisfied with the product.

Tried once when the leaves started falling. Works well in a small yard with reasonable power.
