My main requirement was something that was light enough that I could store it in the basement via bulkhead. That's worked well for this device. The thrower also cleans right down to the pavement due to it's rubber flappers, something the metal augers cannot do. The housing has a special, small seperate peice that can be removed to access the carb (the part most likely to need maintenance). I'm on my 2nd winter now, and the unit has required no maintenance at all. We had a 20" snowfall today, and that presented some problems for a thrower of a smaller size, like this one. I had to "ride" the thrower up on the top layer of snow and then return for a second pass to clear the lower level, but it commpleted the job nonetheless.

I'm updating the review today; prior paragraph didn't convey just how much I love this thing! It works so well, even though it's only a single stage. Never clogs, always throws.

[UPDATE] 12/2011: I'm still really happy w/ this thrower, but there's a design flaw that causes the pull-cord to rattle against the opening of a plastic dashboard, and it'll adventually break. I cut & tied mine where it was frayed. And the I took the t-handle out of the holder that is meant to keep it accessible 1/2-way down the push-frame, and just let it pull itself towards the engine until the dashboard stops it. That way, the nylon rope won't be rattling against anything.

I bought this snowblower [but with the electric start option] just before the blizzard of 2011. Works great. Of course, when the snow got over 10" deep, I had to first undercut it and then let the overhang collapse and then blow that. It throws about 15' with dry snow and about 10' when wet. I don't normally use the electric start option since it starts on two pulls, but it's nice to have that as a back up.

I was reluctant to buy a snowblower because of the heavy weight, lack of room in garage, and the difficulty of starting a two cycle engine. But this snowblower only weighs 75 lb, folds up easily in a small area, and starts with no problem.

I'm not sure why the negative reviews. It may be just damage during shipping? But why the people wouldn't just send it back is a mystery to me. Anyway, its a fine machine. I've used it for about 6-8 times over the last two months.

I bought a Toro last February through Amazon. It arrived the night before the last major storm we had last Winter and I had the simple assembly done in time to lick that snowfall. We had our post-Christmas blizzard (12/26/10) and weekly storms this Winter and the machine handled them beautifully. Then the night after I had cleaned up the 15" to 18" storm we had a few weeks ago, somebody came overnight and stole that machine. (No garage and I neglected to chain it up, DUMB!) When the police drove away I ordered the same machine from Amazon. It came a day earlier than promised and the next morning we had our next snowfall. Beautiful job. Chained up machine! Now it's in the basement until the next Wintry forecast, perhaps next Winter?

All I can say is im on 2 years plus with this machine and it has been super from day one. I have never touched it since the initial assembly, and it is still going strong. I have 4 to 5 good snowfalls a winter 8 to 12 inches and this machine handles them just fine. I clean my driveway 2 times as fast as the guy next door with a two stage snow thrower. I used to own one of those never again. this machine is great. People with belt problems are the exception not the rule. My belt has never had one issue in 2 winters now. This machine cleans slush which plugs two stage throwers and any kind of snow with no plugging.
