Book Description

August 2000
Golf course architect Stanley Thompson was a genius. Shortly after his death, the Ottawa Citizen wrote of him: He left his mark on the Canadian landscape from coast to coast. No man could ask for a more handsome set of memorials. Jim Barclay has now written this definitive account of Stanley Thompsons careera career that in some ways is stranger than fiction, but was immensely contributive to the creation of the playing fields of golf. Known as the Toronto Terror, Stanley was not without his faults, but certainly no one can deny that he was one of the most colourful figures in the history of course design, a profession that is not immune to flamboyance.

This review is from: The Toronto Terror (Hardcover)
If you are a fan of Stanley Thompson's courses, this is a reference you will use constantly. Jim Barclay leads the reader through Stanley's life, then his courses, and he provided a reference of all of the courses with which Thompson was associated, including courses which are reported to be Thompson design, but are not.
