This is a really cool tool. I work at an engineering firm and we very often have to remove large rusty nuts. I have used this to take off 1 1/2" nuts that I couldn't get off with a monkey wrench and a 4' pipe. I broke the monkey wrench.
The only challenge was anchoring the arm. I ended up using flat steel to wedge in it and stop the arm from moving. The steel wedges between the socket and the arm and whatever else you can use to anchor to. Doing this scratched the socket some but considering they are extra thick to withstand the 8000FtLbs. of torque, this is no problem to the socket. You will need 1" drive sockets. They are huge.
I normally would use a 3/4" drive and sockets to remove most of the bolts I come in contact with. This most recent trip I stripped out a spud wrench and broke a monkey wrench. I also bent a flat wonder bar in half. I figure I needed something with a lot of power. This is that tool. It will either break the nut loose or break the bolt off.
This tool has a very slow action so its not a tool that will go squirrely on you. Every 58 turns from the handle equal 1 turn from the socket. Very slow but extremely powerful!!! This thing broke loose rusted nuts on 1" bolts that had been there for 20 years. Like i said before I broke a monkey wrench with a 4' Pipe that I was trying to turn them off with. The only caution I can say is if you use a piece of steel or something else to stop the are be wary that you will exude an extreme amount of force on whatever you anchor to. It may break and shatter toward you so be careful.
The only improvement I can suggest would be to add a way for the sockets to not fall off. There are no locking bearings on this so when you pick it up the sockets fall off.Read more ›
INSIDE PLASTIC CASE IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH FOR WEIGHT OF TOOL IN IT, THUS IT CRACKS. THE RUBBER HANDLE ON THE CRANK HANDLE SLIDES OFF CRANK WHEN USING, IT NEEDS TO BE SECURED BETTER. ( IT NEEDS TO BE GLUED ON) THE TOOL DOES WORK GOOD AND DOES TAKE LUG NUTS OFF SEMI TRUCKS. I HAVE CHANGED FOUR TIRES ALREADY. I HAVE BOUGHT A SECOND ONE AND BOTH TOOLS HAVE CRACKED INSIDE CASES AND THE RUBBER SLIDES OFF THE HANDLE.
