5.0 out of 5 stars The best film I've ever seen!! Ever!!, April 7, 2005
This review is from: Torrente 2: Mision en Marbella (DVD)
It's amazing. This movie is amazing. The humor. The rythm. It's so sophisticated, I can't believe it didn't win any oscars!
But what admires me the most is the guy who stars in it. Awesome, what a comedic genius! Such a funny guy... I don't know why he isn't working in Hollywood already.
Watch out ACM, William Morris... This fella is a goldmine, and he is also the writer and director. Wow.
I just wanted to share my point of view with you.
Buy this dvd and you won't regret it!!
(Warning, this movie contains nudity, weird behaviors, obscenities, and is very very politically incorrect... but funny)

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful, marvellous, splendid......and vulgar!!!, April 10, 2005
This review is from: Torrente 2: Mision en Marbella (DVD)
Torrente 2: Mission in Marbella is a great follow-up to the Torrente saga; as a matter of fact, it outdoes the first part in almost every department. In many ways Torrente is the Spanish version of Chief Wiggum from `The Simpsons', so you can more or less imagine what a full-length movie of such a peculiar character would be.
The story follows Torrente, an out-of-luck private eye, who suddenly gets involved in a `James-Bondish' evil plot that threats the safety of his home city, Marbella. The great thing about this movie is that it offers perfectly-balanced criticism of some traits of Spanish society. There is also this `B-movie' feeling about Torrente 2 which just adds flavour to the great mood this films has.
I would only have one warning though: some of the gags are very `local' in the sense that you have to be Spanish or understand Spanish (i.e. from Spain) pop culture, sports, etc., in order to `get' the jokes. However this ain't that big an issue, since Torrente 2 relies more on visual jokes and clever, ironical and sarcastic dialogues than anything else. The gags might not be altogether that `innovative' but they are used so well and naturally that they will have your stomach hurting from laughing so much.
This movie has all that would be banned in a regular country: nudity, violence and explicit language, so I guess it would qualify for an `R' rating; however it is all shown in such a comical/sarcastic manner, that it's obvious it's not to be taken seriously and I certainly don't consider this movie to be offensive whatsoever. As a general reference, Torrente 2 has some of the feeling found in `The Day of the Beast' or `El Día de la Bestia' (also starring Santiago Segura), so if you've seen that one already, you know more or less what to expect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly raunchy, Unbelievably funny, March 10, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Torrente 2: Mision en Marbella (DVD)
I first saw Torrente 2 in a Spanish comedy movie marathon in theaters in my home town.
To say I laughed my @$$ off is an understatement.
Torrente tells the story of an incompetent ex-police officer, now turned private detective. He indulges in every excess -dirnking, women, gambling- and is completely unapologetic about it.

So fun you'll pee in your pants.
Get it, and if you don't like reading subtitles, suck it up and get it anyway. You won't regret it.
