Book Description

Tort Law for Legal Assistants, Third Edition strikes an excellent balance between academic coverage of tort law principles and practical coverage of skills requisite for the personal injury legal assistant. And, in response to the increasing use of technology in the legal field, special emphasis is placed on using the Internet to search for information related to tort law. The authors have used an informal writing style, and they have made every effort to keep readers engaged through a host of techniques. For example, each chapter is introduced using a simple, often lighthearted, hypothetical. Each chapter contains Practice Pointers that introduce students to such practical skills as drafting pleadings, preparing medical authorization requests, documenting damages, writing FOIA letters, and assembling trial exhibits. Review questions and practice exams allow students to test their mastery of chapter materials. An instructor's manual with test bank complements this practical teaching text.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The major strengths of the book are: organization; visual presentation; emphasis on real world application. With regard to organization, the material is presented logically and in accordance with how I think students will be able to start to understand what tort law is all about. It starts out slow and builds on important concepts as the book progresses. With regard to visual presentation, the book does a great job of presenting the material in an easily accessible format. Important concepts are clearly delineated throughout the chapters in a logical fashion. With regard to real world application, it's important for students to grasp how the concepts are applied in the real world. This text does a great job in providing realistic examples throughout the text material in addition to the generous case opinions." --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tort Law for Legal Assistants, May 22, 2000
By
Beverly D. Miller (San Mateo, California) - See all my reviews
Tort Law for Legal Assistants is a must for any civil litigation paralegal. I selected it based upon its table of contents, and it delivers. It is a clear, concise overview of tort law that provides reasoning, theories, relationships, elements, effects, limitations, applications, and much more. I wish I had known about this book during my paralegal training classes. At least I have it now as a review tool and reference guide for assignments as a paralegal.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Torts and even Civil Procedure, August 31, 2009
This review is from: Tort Law (Hardcover)
I had this book for my class on Torts and it is a very good book for learning about Torts and even Civil Procedure. The book has a detailed Table of Contents and each chapter has a page describing what it will cover. The chapters have cases to help with the topic it is "teaching" and the different kinds of torts, intentional, negligenc, and strict liabilty. The torts are defined extremely well and Civil Procedure, from the demand letter to post trial motions, are described in detail. I took Torts before I took Civil Litigation and I already know at least half of the course. This book is excellent for learning about Torts and basic Civil Procedure.
