Try this app right now on your computer. You control the app with your mouse and keyboard to experience it like you would on your phone. Test drive this app before you buy.
How does this work?
Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

Get creative as you create your masterpiece
Create a Coloring Masterpiece

ColorBook is a photo-editing app for your Android device that lets you turn your own personal pictures into coloring book images. Create colored masterpieces and share them with your family and friends; each image you create will be truly one of a kind.

Select Your Palette

It's easy to turn a photo into a customized coloring book image. Just open the ColorBook app and take a photo (or choose one from your personal photo gallery or Facebook profile). The photo will appear on your screen transformed into a black and white, pencil-drawn image.

If you like, you can change the visual style of the image before you go any further. Touch the Menu button, then select Style, and you'll find three options: ColorBook (the default line-drawing style), GrayScale, and Original. Pick your favorite. Now it's time to get coloring!

Stay Inside the Lines--or Don't

Start by choosing a brush size and paint color from the tabs at the bottom of the screen. Create broad strokes with a large brush, or pick one that's pinpoint-sized to get precise. For detail work, you can use the app's two-finger zoom feature to see up close and make sure you color inside the lines.

The color choices are wide open, so be creative. Basic options are available at a single touch, but you can also bring up a color wheel and choose the exact shade you want.

Coloring is easy. Using your finger, touch the screen anywhere. You'll see the color appear immediately, as if you're holding a crayon or pen. If you make a mistake, touch the Erase tab and use your finger to remove the offending strokes.

Save and Share Your Work

When you've finished your masterpiece, make sure you share it with your friends. You can post it to Facebook or send it via e-mail or text message.

And remember to save your work to your device! You can make sure you never lose a project by selecting "Auto save" in the app's Menu settings. Then anything you're working will automatically be preserved for you whenever you exit the app. Happy coloring!

Works great on my kindle fire! The developer came up with a simple and fun app. Never thought I'd spend hours at a time coloring!

2.0 out of 5 stars lacks basic controls May 18, 2012
Verified Purchase
Good concept, but lacks basic features like undo, contrast, brightness, tint, and fill. Also, the only brush shape is a circle, and that is hidden under your finger so you can't make fine adjustments. Would be nice to have an offset option. The last thing is the screen orientation has to be set globally before loading the image. Why no rotate button? Whole app needs work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Color me unimpressed May 18, 2012
Verified Purchase
First thing I tried to do with this app was load a photo of my face taken outdoors. The app appears to have difficulty finding edges, as there was very little detail, and in particular, no eyes. When I colored the image in, it gave me this weird pasty skin, like I had leprosy or something. I tried again, this time with a portrait taken indoors. It did a slightly better job, though this time it greatly overemphasized my glasses. After coloring it in, it made me look like I was wearing a ton of makeup. I tried a third time using a baby photo and the results made me laugh out loud (I've saved that one and will upload it to Amazon).

OK, so maybe this doesn't work so well for faces. Maybe it'll work better with landscapes. But I'll never be able to find out, because the app kept giving me "out of RAM" errors for every single landscape photo I tried.

I tried again with a photo I took of some flowers. The results looks rather like hand-drawn semi-cartoony flowers over a photo background. I kind of like the effect.

I tried yet again with some animal photos. And yet again, I was plagued by "out of RAM" messages. I finally managed to load a photo of our black & white mantle Great Dane. The line art was almost unrecognizable, but when colored in looked like a passable painting of a dog. I tried loading a photo of a brown-colored donkey and he came out grey when colored in. Finally, I loaded a photo of a rabbit in the grass. The line art was a jumbled mass of lines; colored in it took on an impressionist appearance.

Overall, the app is unimpressive. It works well with some photos but utterly butchers others. The "out of RAM" errors make loading an image unpredictable at best. There is no undo function, so you can't make any mistakes!

2.0 out of 5 stars Zombie Maker May 18, 2012

Its the perfect app if you wasn't to make everyone in your pictures look like they've Risen from the grave. Eyes and Teeth come out scary looking on any setting high enough to capture details..This product probably works better with pictures of buildings or trees.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good start. May 18, 2012

Great app concept, fun to play with, slightly frustrating to fix small overruns and move around in zoomed mode. More stars for more painting options, negative colors, and add an "Undo" and "Redo" feature.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh May 18, 2012
Verified Purchase
This app does a poor job of rendering my images so that they may be colored. Perhaps my images are undesirable for the purpose and I will be taking new pictures in different lighting to see if I can improve the effect. As it stands now, the app poorly choses how to outline my images... Sometimes failing completely to render the image into something recognizable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome App! May 21, 2012

This is the most used app on my mobile device. Prior to use, I did not think much of this app, being the app of the day. Low and behold, never judge a book by its cover. This is an awesome app! I have taken more pictures because of this app. The more I use it, the more functionality I discover. I have read other reviews that gave this app less rating, wanting more options and what not. Some people you just can satisfy. If I had to pay for this app, it would have been money well spent! Again, AWESOME APP!
