A great place to start understanding tortoises,
By Barbara Reader (New York, New York USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tortoises (Basic Domestic Reptile & Amphibian Library) (Library Binding)
What defines a Tortoise? It does not have webbed feet. Hence, box turtles aren't tortoises. This book is very readable, and has beautiful photographs of its animal subjects (for those of us who are turtlely inclined!). Jerry G. Walls does a good job of getting to points quickly so you walk away from the book demystified about these animals which are becoming more common in the pet trade, but which are more delicate to keep than many realize. I would strongly recommend the book to anyone with an interest in the subject, but especially to anyone who is considering aquiring a tortoise. Reading this could make the difference between life an death for your pet.
