Better Aids Out There,
By UofL 2L "law student" (Louisville, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Law in a Flash: Torts (Law in a Flash Cards) (Cards)
I am not disputing that alot of people were able to do better by using the flash cards. There are better aids out there, however. It is more efficient and likely more effective to use an E+E or Siegel's (or anything else with essays and pre-written "A" answers) and practice writing answers yourself. The answers on the flash cards are seldom, if ever, sufficient for an A in a class and sometimes they are just flat out wrong.
Also, there are like 1000 flash cards which makes it difficult to go through them all quickly. I'm not going to say that nothing beats case briefs and outlines because I don't really do either - but if you aren't gonna do that do ALOT of test prep that includes pre-writing answers, which is something flash cards will not help with.

Life saver for 1st year Law Student Torts Class,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CrunchTime: Torts (Paperback)
When I ordered this book, I was skeptical it would be of much use, and didn't even pick it up to help me study until the night before my final. When I finally got around to reading it, I realized that it was a wonderful resource. The tips about what to expect on the exam were very helpful and easy to remember. The information is given to you in a way that helps you retain key words and facts you need as you are writing your essay answers on the test. I believe that this book helped me more on my Final than the review of all my other materials from class and online.

Really good study aid,
By
This review is from: Torts (Law in a Flash Cards) (Misc. Supplies)
This is a great study aid for all first year law students. Each of the over 600 flash cards asks and answers questions designed to assist in learning first year law school torts. Each section of the flash cards (e.g., nuisance) starts with cards setting forth the black letter law (the elements) of most of the common law torts from assault to malicious prosecution. These cards are followed with flash cards presenting short fact patterns designed to test your understanding of the specific issues concerning those black letter torts. They are very effective in helping the student to focus his or her thinking process. Informative, fun and immaginative.
I actually used these to study for my Torts final. Got an A. I've worked as a paralegal for about 10 years and knew how to take the test, but these tightened down my language and helped me review.

Recommend - if it correlates with your class!,

This review is from: Torts (Crunchtime) (Paperback)
The Crunchtime books can be a great asset for exam prep. Each book includes flow charts (which can be very helpful and are likely unlike anything you have seen in class), summaries of each topics, exam tips for each product including what is most commonly tested and what to say about a topic if tested, multiple choice questions and answers, short answer questions and answers, and essay questions and answers. I would recommended using this during the last week prior to the exam. It reinforces what you know and gives you great practice in answering exam questions.
Although they have great information, they will not correlate with every professor's class. In my experience, the Torts Crunchtime was invaluable and likely made a huge difference in my grade (especially recommended if your Torts professor includes any type of multiple choice on the exam). The Civ Pro Crunchtime was helpful, especially if there was any confusion on a particular topic. Due SOLELY to the difference in my professor's teaching methods and the info in these books, the Contracts and Crim Law Crunchtime books were not helpful to me. The material differed too much from the books (everything was accurate, however, my professor's gave certain topics a lot of weight and they were barely glazed over in the book). The helpfulness of these books depend on how they correlate to your class. If they do, there is no better resource for exam prep! Also, the only other study aid I purchased was the Examples and Explanations for each topic. They compliment the Crunchtime books well because they give you a more in depth, overall view of the topic, while Crunchtime focuses on last minute, helpful tips and answer practice. The E&E's were the same as these books for me, Civ Pro and Torts were great, Crim Law and Contracts did not add much to my study preparation.

Great Study Aid!,
By
This review is from: CrunchTime: Torts (Paperback)
I'm not sure why a lot of these reviews mention flash cards, I have this book and it didn't come with anything like that. However, it is a great study aid. It has flow charts, a simplified outline, exam tips, and practice questions. It really gave me a better understanding of the subject.

law in a flash review,
By Cazzo "Caz" (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Law in a Flash: Torts (Law in a Flash Cards) (Cards)
These flash cards were better than any supplement I have purchased, so far. Any ambiguities I had were cleared through these cards. Even topics I had a tough time with after speaking with the professor personally, were cleared up through these cards. Great for help with multiple choice questions especially, because they give great hypos. Also great for essays because they lay out the elements of each tort, defense, etc., and explain them. Also, one of my most favorite parts was the acronyms they provide. I would recommend these flash cards to anyone suffering through, or even sickly enjoying, torts.

1/2 must have Torts supplements,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Torts (Crunchtime) (Paperback)
I purchased 5 supplements for my 1L Torts course (Fall+Spring). This book, Emanuel CrunchTime Torts, which provides master outline and flow-charts. That is what I used the week before exams. The other book that I recommend is The Glannon Guide to Torts, which is a concise version of E&E. The other books were no use to me (Gilbert Torts Law Summaries (too much irrelevant info.), E&E Torts (not relevant to exam and way too long to read throughout semester), and Tort Law Shapo (a hornbook, not on point enough).

Splendid resource for students in California non-ABA law schools!,
By
This review is from: Law in a Flash: Torts (Law in a Flash Cards) (Cards)
If you're in a non-ABA law school (mostly found in California, Alabama, Tennesse and Massachusetts) then these Torts flash cards are wonderful! The first 250 cards or so cover things like the evolution of contributory negligence to comparitive negligence in the 46 states that use the comparitive negligence doctrine. The format of these cards is fun and tests your knowlege of black letter essentials using actual names in situations that are spoofs of your favorite cartoon characters from childhood such as 'Wiley Coyote' These torts flash cards are wonderful! These flash cards can always be found on Amazon for $20 to $30 which law students know is a very good price!

The Law Made Easy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Emanuel Law Outlines: Torts, Prosser Edition (Paperback)
Great study aid to use along with your class torts textbook. Emanuel boils down the law to the essentials and includes a summary outline in the beginning of the book for easy review and study. You get the law in a simple, concise way, saving you the trouble of trying to distill the law yourself from hundreds of convoluted, wordy opinions. Emanuel saved me from stressing out before midterms and gave me a reasonable grade.

Helped me get an A in Torts,
By ckott72 "ckott72" (Washington DC, United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Law in a Flash: Torts (Law in a Flash Cards) (Cards)
These cards are great because nearly every answer has the elements of the tort and the reasoning behind the answer. It was repetitive and annoying while studying, but reading the same reasoning over and over really ingrained it.
Torts exams are touchy-feely and your essay answers have to be geared toward your professor. That being said, 1L torts are survey courses which can cover a huge area of case law. These flash cards helped me memorize a large number of concepts correctly in a very short period of time. After cramming with these cards, I was able to pour loads of relevant information into the issue-spotting portion of my exam. One word of caution . . . It's important to listen to your professor. Some of the content, while maybe "correct," was not in line with my professor's teaching. Undoubtedly, your professor will disagree with some minor point of law presented in these cards. |
