The television is a nice small size so perfect for a bedroom but the television makes an electrical hum from the back of the unit. The hum just drives me nuts. I thought this might be a defective unit but others have commented on this problem with last year's model. So looks like they have not fixed this issue.

No humming noise on my end. I don't know if the other reviewers were somewhat unlucky & got a malfunctioned TV, but I hear no humming noise what so ever. In fact when I mute the TV sound, I hear no sound at all. Anyways this is an excellent Product. Very clear picture, great sound (surround & BBE), and I love the 16:9 feature! The component video (need a special component video cable Red Green Blue) with the DVD player (Toshiba Colorstream both ends) makes DVD's look amazing. Why pay $... or more for a Sony TV with an inferior quality picture & less features? If I have to find a fault then I would say that the text on the remote control is too small (only fault I can find, nitpicking). Best TV purchase I made, highly recommend.

i'm a long time sony fan, and it took me a while to finally decide to get the toshiba. the sony just didn't have the picture or the features to be competitive.... and, most importantly, the toshiba picture blows away the competing Sony model. Even if the toshiba cost more, I would have picked it. A great set that you can't go wrong with.

YO! Y'All, after trying to find nice flat screen TV to fit with my apartment, I found out that 20AF43 is the best model for 20 inch TV. With clear and crisp picture, great sound quality, and cool design, I would say that, within this competitive price range, you won't find another to beat this one. Have tried philips flat screen 20PT643R and feel very disappointed with its brand. Pay a little more, and get better quality!!!.. About Humming noise, it won't be any trouble if you turn up all your volume.. and it's not the problem for me..so, I give it 5 stars with all my vote!!

I just purchased the Toshiba from Amazon.com, and I couldn't love this TV more. I have spent weeks searching for the perfect TV for my new home theater system in my bedroom and I settled on this TV, because of great reviews, options (such at video out - that allows you to watch cable on your external speakers i.e. home theater), and style. The picture quality is sharp and flawless (almost as if you were watching HDTV) and with a DVD and the Colorstream component video option, the picture is even better. Sound quality is also good, with no humming as with other flat screens. Options seem endless. With easy menu navigation and tons of features, this TV is a steal from Amazon. Also, I ordered this TV and recieved it in 2 days flat w/free shipping, no tax, and up-to-the minute status of your order. If you want a TV for your bedroom, this one is perfect in every sense. When compared to other brands, Sony is about even, but very expensive and all other brands seem to be much lower quality. You won't be dissapointed!

I considered a lot of different 20" flat screen TVs and finally decided on the Toshiba 20AF43 because, for me, it really hit that sweet spot between price and features. It has a great clear picture and good sound, plus along with regular RCA a/v inputs, it also has both S-video and component video input. However, it isn't as pricey as the equivalent SONY KVFS100, which doesn't even have all the same input options. So although I have generally been a Sony person in the past, I am generally very pleased with the Toshiba and am enjoying having a TV I can actually see from across the room, even though the set isn't terribly huge (a plus in my book).
However, I am deducting a star for the terrible remote control. First, the remote that comes with the Toshiba is very picky about where it will work -- perhaps I am just used to being able to vaguely point the remote in the general direction of the TV, but this one you really have to have it very precisely angled or it won't work at all. Plus, on several occasions I have done something mysterious with the remote that caused me to lose all control, even if I try it again up close to the TV. The only way I got control back was to turn the TV off and back on again. Also, when I entered the code to have the remote control my (Sony) VCR as well, it no longer worked for the TV. Finally, the number buttons are really awkwardly placed at the top of the remote and it is very hard to enter in specific channel #s that I want to jump to, especially if I'm trying to hold the remote at the magic angle at the same time. Can you tell that I'm irritated by all this? I will probably purchase a universal remote to use instead...
The TV itself is great though!

This TV is a great value. The picture is clear and crisp and the audio is terrific. I have owned Sony's and I think this set is at least the equal if not better in terms of picture and sound quality. The big plus is it is less expensive than its Sony competitor and has more features.

I read the other reviews on this page before making my purchase. The report of the hum is valid however if I hadn't read about it before purchasing it, I don't think I would have noticed it. The hum is really hard to detect so I don't consider it a negative. I have satellite tv so I only used the Toshiba remote for set-up and minor adjustments and didn't find it to be a problem. I use the satellite remote as the primary remote.

I took advantage of the Super Saver free shipping. Combined with the low price, this was a very good deal.

Great tv, nice picture, I have cable and have an s-video cable connected and it's to sharp a picture!, terrific color, the best sound for a 20' it even has surround sound! but best of all the price ...
Now the bad news - I have it in a small bedroom and at low volume levels there is a buzz/humm sound coming from the back, if you make it loud enough you can't hear it! it is annoying but I'm getting used to it. I refuse to return it because it's the best 20' tv out there!

Awesome clarity and sound and the price gives it the best bang for the buck. Although the remote control is a little awkward... 99% of the time I'll be staring at the TV and not the remote so it isn't that much of a problem. I have indeed heard the infamous humming noise from the back of the TV, it is a little annoying but I have gotten use to it plus it can only be heard when the sound is on low or mute. Overall I couldn't be happier and this is coming from a college student.

About the humming--Some SONY units also have the humming noise and my JVC 27" flat screen also has the humming. It is annoying but the price to pay for a quality TV.
