So Far, So Good...,
By
This review is from: Toshiba 20AF45 20" FST Pure Flat Screen TV (Silver) (Electronics)
After comparing the 20 inch monitor receivers visually at a local store, we purchased this model recently; working great so far. No curling here; perhaps the other reviewer placed the set near the source of a strong magnetic field, such as the power transformer of a large amplifier.
No ghosting either. We feed cable into the set via both a VCR,(RF), and a cable box output, (baseband), routed through A/V receiver. Slight amount of noise with RF loopthough; baseband cable box very clean. Could be slightly low RF amplitude of cable which the cablebox can better handle. TV sound is adequate; you cannot expect really great audio from a TV set, which is why we use our A/V receiver when sound quality matters. Component output of DVD player routed into so-called "colorstream" input of TV with excellent results, when compared to composite output of DVD player through A/V receiver. Good VCR performance; obviously recording at 2 hr mode produces better quality video than a recording made using 6 hour mode. The sharpness of this TV reveals the quality difference between the two recording speeds. All in all, a very good monitor/receiver, though it carried top of the line price for this class of 20 inch monitor/receivers. We had originally intended to purchase a different, less expensive model, but decided to spend $30 more for this one since its picture was decidely superior to the others on display.

Stellar!!!,

'Got this little beauty to replace a larger, old
tv that finally died. What a joy this one is! It's beautiful, and, better yet, the picture is well above good, even with old VHS tapes. Extra settings for color/black options really bring out the beautiful myriad tones of the old black and white classics. DVDs are so crisp I think this is about as good a picture as you can get for a tv that's about 1/10th of what you'd pay for a superfine HD set. I'm beyond pleased with this gorgeous little tv.

Great TV for a Few Years,

I've owned this Toshiba model for about 4 years and until very recently, it has been a wonderful component. My reason for purchasing the Toshiba over Sony or similar competitors' models at the time was that the Toshiba had far superior audio for its size/screen/price class.
Toshiba's greatest flaw, however, was recently exposed when I moved to a new home. When I first set it up in my new home and turned it on, there was a "tick ... tick ... tick ..." that went on for about 20 seconds until the power indicator light came on and the screen became active. All was fine, operations were normal for a week, until the TV was again unplugged and moved to a different location in the room it was in. This time, the ticking lasted for over 10 minutes. While that was going on, I did a web search on the problem and saw that it's common among Toshiba units and usually involved an expensive fix. Anyway, eventually it came on. That was yesterday. Today, even though the unit was not unplugged - simply turned off last night - the tick came back, and this time, it took well over 25 minutes to get full power and picture. Until I find room in my budget for a new tv, I won't dare shut this Toshiba all the way off, rather leave it on a blank channel.

Still not good enough for a 20" flat screen,

Toshiba has always had superior picture and sound compared to other TVs in the same size range, even Sony. However this new model doesn't quite cut it. First of all, when watching regular antenna signals or cable, there is a ghosting bar down the left side of the screen (not just my product, the display at Best Buy did the same thing, but I thought it might just be that one...I was wrong), and there is an upward curve of the picture on all inputs from the bottom-left corner up. If you can deal with this, so be it, but I cannot. What's the point of having a flat screen if it isn't straight and clear across the whole screen? This one's going back to Best Buy just like all the others.
NO GHOSTING ON NEW MODELS!!! GET IT STRAIGHT!!! I'M TALKING TO YOU TOSHIBA, SONY, MAGNAVOX, PHILIPS, SAMSUNG, PANASONIC!!! YOU ALL ARE MAKING CRAPPY TELEVISIONS!!!!!!

I bought this tv a week ago, from Futureshop in Canada, and I have not had any problems with the tv at all, my only gripe is that there are no A/V output ports on the tv, so you cant setup the tv with a surround system but other than that its a very good tv... unlike the review left by the first reviewer, i have not encountered the curling image ANYWHERE on the screen, my guess is that he got an early production model or it wasnt a FLAT crt tube model that he bought (inother words a plain old TV)... I would reccommend this tv.
