Toshiba 20HL67 20-Inch Portable LCD HDTV

I purchased the Toshiba 20HL67 LCD TV for my mom as a Mothers Day present this year.

The picture on this TV is outstanding. Colors are very accurate out of the box, and black levels are very good for a LCD TV. The QAM tuner allows for unscrambled HD feeds passed over cable TV to be displayed without a cable box. The QAM tuner on this Toshiba is more accurate than the one in my JVC 32" LCD TV, allowing for stations to be slotted into their correct locations. The zoom modes provided on this Toshiba are great for making traditional 4:3 aspect programing fill the screen. I've also hooked up an older Aiwa, non progressive scan, DVD player via the component inputs. The Toshiba does a fine job of upconverting the 480i signal to the 768P resolution of the TV. A Progressive scan or an upconverting DVD player is not an essental add on, an older DVD player hooked up to the component video inputs (red, blue and green) will do fine with this TV. I have not hooked a VCR up to the TV to see how it would perform with a sub NTSC quality signal.

The main disadvantages of this TV are the remote sensor is in the lower right hand corner of the TV and the lack of a digital audio output. If your TV is in a cabinet, like my mom's is, the remote sensor won't have the range on the right hand side of the room. I prefer older TVs where the remote sensor is in the center of the TV. My mom has to get out of her bed to change channels or turn the TV off. Most other 20" LCDs, have the sensor in the lower right hand corner too, so this is a flaw across the board. As far as the lack of a digital audio output, there is neither a coaxial or optical audio output. However, I doubt many people are going to use this TV for home theater, so this is not a make or break missing feature to 98% of people looking at 20" LCD TVs.

Overall Toshiba did a great job with this TV. I highly recomend this TV to anyone that needs or wants a 20" LCD.

Did a lot of research before buying. Not a large selection when looking for a smaller hdtv for the bedroom and/or kitchen. Very happy with the Toshiba, picture and sound.

I am using this tv with a non-hd coax connection and the picture quality is great. Highly recommeded.

An excellent choice for a small to moderate sized room.
Superb picture quality, typical of other Toshiba video products.
Excellent colour display-can also be connected to your PC.
Good sound characteristics.
Multi function remote, does seem a little bit directionally sensitive.
(Aim to lower right corner of screen to avoid frustration.)
Somewhat difficult to set up if you're not very tech savvy.
Needs digital inputs to get digital output.
Light in weight, very smart design.

We purchased the tv in 2007. It was pricey but we also needed the specific size so paid the higher price. We were extremely happy and it's portability was an extra. No complaints at all until,a couple months ago, it started cutting off on it's own. And shortly after stopped working all together.You would expect to get more than 4 years from a tv we paid almost $500 for. I haven't found a place yet to see if it's worth fixing.

Arrived as promised. Set up was easy and we're very pleased with the picture. As a smaller sized set, it's great for the bedroom as an extra TV. I'd buy another if I needed it.

Bought this TV for kitchen replacement. Very nice picture but best viewed from straight-ahead.Disapointed in sound quality, but have a 50" Sony in the living room with a Bose sound system, I'm sure my hearing has been compromised because of it.

Had to send TV across the country for repair (haven't gotten it back yet). Cost 50 bucks to ship it there, Was unhappy that it would not turn on randomly. Have not got it back yet - so I am not sure how effective the repairs are going to be. When it worked it worked well - great picture. Was kind of disappointed that it didn't have PiP - figured any tv that hooks up to your computer would have it - I figured wrong. Next TV from a local vendor that provides service here.

They sent me a new tv - it has the same problem as the first one - sometimes you turn it on and it turns itself off - but at least this one will let me turn it on again. Watch out here.
