5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 32" for the price.
Since the other reviews here already mention this TV's features etc. Ill just get right to it,I saw this TV in Consmuer reports as the highest rated 32" model among the many models tested, also Toshiba has one of the best repair history records according to Consumer reports , afer looking around I found it at Bestbuy.com on sale for $407 (as of 02/3/04), I'm really...

3.0 out of 5 stars Big Boy works good
I picked it up when my last TV started aging a bit. I didn't wish to spend the extra $$ for a flat panal screen and went with the older technology of this beast. Let me tell you it works plenty good. Sharp picture, saturated color, and plenty loud enough for any room . The drawback is its size. extremely big and heavy. My entertainment center shelves hold 250 lbs. so it...

Since the other reviews here already mention this TV's features etc. Ill just get right to it,I saw this TV in Consmuer reports as the highest rated 32" model among the many models tested, also Toshiba has one of the best repair history records according to Consumer reports , afer looking around I found it at Bestbuy.com on sale for $407 (as of 02/3/04), I'm really picky with picture quality (maybe a bit to much? =) but this TV has a really nice picture ,in fact it comes very close in picture quality to our $700 Flatscreen 27" Wega ,Also the sound quality is much better on the Toshiba, my only (minor) complaint would be the 'Black Retention' is a slightly weak (a tv's ability to maintain black in dark scenes without it looking 'grey') turning down the brightness helped this a lot but still not quite on par with the Wega,The factory picture presets on the Toshiba are badly set in my opinion ,After running the Video Essentials DVD I noticed this TV has very good Convergence and only a slight Geometry issue in the bottom left corner(picture "sags" down a bit) ,After running through the video test patterns on the dvd I ended up with the following settings: Contrast 53,Brightness 43,Sharpness 58, Color 48, Tint 0 ,Color Temperature: Medium, This may not be the 'perfect' settings for you but im 99% sure it'l look a lot better than any of the factory preset settings (Movie/Standard/Sports). With these settings watching Cable, playing Xbox or watching DVD's all look great.

The remote control is nice ,very similar to a Sony's remote layout,I was able to easily program it to operate my DVD player, VCR and Cable box.

For the money you really cant go wrong,Excellent TV overall,Also worth noting is even tho its not a Flatscreen it still looks flatter than most conventional 32" TV's I've seen.

I also can't say enough about this tv.. I was in the market
for a flat screen HD TV ready 32" or higher and looked and
did the research and waited and didn't rush. I had gone to
the stores and compared pictures and I always went back to this
Toshiba, its even got a screen that is pretty close to flat and bought it and I love this set and I saved hundreds
of dollars if I went to HD TV ready. Great Picture and value
for those looking for a reasonably priced TV with great credentials. It also ConsumerReports #1 rated 32" Conventional tv for the money
even listed slightly better than the more than twice as expensive Sony FD trinitron Wega V310 at over $900.00.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding value, outstanding TV, January 8, 2005
This review is from: Toshiba 32A43 32" TV (Electronics)
I bought this TV to replace an 8-year old Sony XBR (orig price of $1500). This is the first non-Sony, larger than 20", TV that I have owned. I've never been a big fan of Sony audio components, but I have always liked their video products very much (thus my past brand-loyalty).

When my XBR started going out, I faced either taking it in for an estimate, or purchasing a new TV. Given the typical more and better toys logic, I immediately thought "ah, here's my excuse for HDTV". However, I just could not justify the price of a flat screen given the still-outrageous prices. Not wanting to lock myself into a non-flat panel HDTV, I decided to shop for an economical TV to "bridge" to an HDTV flat panel in 2-3 years when prices will most likely be more reasonable.

I surveyed the available 32" CRT's (my current entertainment system won't hold a larger TV :( ) and did the cursory review of Consumer Reports latest ratings. Initially, I was still a Sony shopper. However, given the reviews here, the Consumer Reports data, and the fact that I found this TV on sale for $340, I decided to give it a try.

My impressions? This is an outstanding TV at and outstanding price. It outperforms any of my prior TV's, even the $1500 XBR. In some ways this is not surprising since technology has advanced in the 8 years since I purchased my prior TV. But the improvement is two-fold, greater performance and much lower price.

Out-of-the-box, the TV looked good but still suffered from typical manufacturer's "cranked up" settings. I pulled out Video Essentials and started to work. There are really very few problems with this set other than, as one other reviewer mentioned, the TV doesn't have great ability to hold the black level constant. However, this is a minor concern. Once all adjustments were completed, the picture is steallar. Far better than any other TV I've ever owned. I have no idea how it compares to other manufacturers' TV, but I really don't see how any TV could be significantly better than this one.

As an aside note, my final settings via Video Essentials differ significantly from another posters here - showing not all TV's are identical. Mine were : Contrast 43, Brightness 34, Sharpness 28, Color 45, Tint 18, and Color Temp Medium.

I'm sure even the most demanding purchaser will be happy with this TV's performance. However, to get the most out of it, you really should put it through Video Essentials. If you don't have a copy, get one. You'll be able to use it on all future TV purchases, along with using it to fine tune and verify your audio system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great picture, December 26, 2003
This review is from: Toshiba 32A43 32" TV (Electronics)
I just got this TV to replace an old 31" GE TV I had. I looked at a bunch of 27" and 32" TV and this TV had by far the most crisp picture. It even looked better than a lot of the HD ready TVs. Make sure when looking for a TV that you see how it looks in low light screens as well as how crisp the lettering seems. These are the two areas where I could really see a difference in picture quality. Also, play around with the picture settings on the display TVs. It makes a big difference especially if someone else has monkeyed around with the settings.

Overall, if you are in the market for a conventional 32" TV, this one is a great purchase especially for the price. Lots of inputs, great picture, and good sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars great picture tv for a reasonable price, March 12, 2004

This 32" is a great tv for the price. Since we don't have digital cable we don't need a digital tv and the plasmas tvs are too expensive for us. So after comparing the reviews on amazon and at the store, we decided to get this tv. So far so good though it is on the heavy side so hopefully it will stay in one spot. The colors and sharpness are great! We are happy with it so hope it lasts!!!

I did a lot of research when looking for a new TV. Basically, I wanted as much bang for my buck as I could get, without too many frills. This model fit that bill. The picture and sound are great. I like that it has the various AV inputs; I was able to plug my DVD player, VCR, and X-Box right in. Definitely worth the price I paid.

The picture is great. The set got great reviews in Consumer Reports and it performs well. And the price was way more affordable than a flat panel.

But it is a BIG ASS tv. We needed something upstairs in a room where the tv was 10 ft away from the bed - and this works. However, getting the tv upstairs was a chore.

My suggestion - get it delivered wherever you're putting it - or make sure you're only putting it in a room on a ground level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV, Fast Service!, September 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba 32A43 32" TV (Electronics)
I purchased Toshiba 32A43 from a local retailer. To my disappointment, from the very first time I turned it on, the blueish bands appeared on the top left corner and right side of the screen.

Toshiba technitian is coming to check the product. I will see how they handle this problem, and then rate this product again. Until then, the rating is 2 stars.

*************

Technitian checked it out. As he demagnetized TV with special equipment for 5 seconds, the color defects disappeared perfectly. He said that he had seen same problem on some 32" TVs several times. Now whole my family can enjoy this new TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality purchase, good value, May 28, 2003
This review is from: Toshiba 32A43 32" TV (Electronics)
The picture is clear and sharp. The picture is much better than our previous television which was a one-year old "32 JVC. The Toshiba screen is much flatter and offers a better resolution. The sound is great, especially the surround sound. There are numerous options to adjust the picture and sound to your personal taste. The price was excellent and very competitive compared to other televisions of similar size and features.

This TV is an excellent value, just as Consumer Reports described. It has brought new life to DVD movies, and it makes my so-so analog cable signal look as clear as digital cable! 32" is the perfect screen size for my living room, where people sit 6-10 feet from the TV. All the inputs a geek could want are included, including component, S-Video, and front-panel A/V inputs. Some other reviewers have said it's necessary to calibrate the picture, but I think it looks terrific right out of the box. I'll try their suggestions, though, and see if I can squeeze out even more.
