great as a tv and as a computer monitor,

This review is from: Toshiba 32E200U 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Black Gloss) (Electronics)
I bought mine from Buydig when they had it for $399.99 with a coupon code and free shipping last month. I am using it as a computer monitor and as a secondary TV at home. Instead of writing in paragraph, I will just enumerate the things I wanted to say...As a Computer Monitor: 1. It has a native mode, but it will leave about an inch of space/border, from the side and 1/2 inch on the top and bottom. The quality is super crisp! Just like a CRT (with 1080p PC mode on)! 2. Natural mode will stretch it out and leave about a 1/4 inch on each side. and it's still pretty crisp. 3. There is an option in this tv called 1080p PC mode, which makes the letters very crisp and clear. You will need to enable it to make the letters not look distorted or fuzzy. 4. To get to the 1080p computer mode, go to menu > picture settings > noise reduction > turn on 1080p PC mode. 5. by default, it is extremely bright as a computer monitor, so lessen the back light. 6. NO DEAD PIXELS!!!!! 7. Using the 15-pin computer plug, max resolution possible is 1360x 768, and instead of native mode, it has a dot by dot mode (which is essentially native mode.)dot by dot mode will leave a hefty border on the tv which is about 3 inch on the top and bottom and about 5 inches per side. Although the text is as clear as it any CRTs out there, losing about 40% of your monitor's real estate isn't that great. Also in PC ode, you can't change the picture settings. 8. I have been able to use audio over HDMI using an ATI card (4670) 9. To avoid screen tearing when playing PC games, make sure v-sync is turned on your PC. As a TV: 1. switching through channels is painless, not like some other brands that I've tried, this takes less than a second to load to the other channel. There is a slight delay when switching through HDMI and cable or HDMI to another HDMI which is only about a second. 2. very crisp picture and superb colors. The black levels are one of the best I've seen. and this is coming from a former plasma TV user. 3. The sound is pretty decent. Don't expect heavy bass. no tv has that. that's what home theatre set ups are for. 4. The remote is solid, not fancy. no problems picking up the signal. 5. has a usb port that can play music and pictures. 6. NO DEAD PIXELS!!!!!! 7. I have my Dynalight function off so I can't comment on it. Power consumption (using a P3 Watt meter) off >1 W (about .3 W for me) on Sports mode (torch mode) ~95 W on Standard ~59 W on movie mode ~55 W on PC mode (using the 15 pin VGA) ~54 W on preference (it seems to be on Sports mode by default) ~95 W As I've said, it is very bright to use as a computer monitor so what I did was I went on movie mode and customized it by putting contrast and brightness @ 50 and put the backlight @ 0 (yes I put it @ ZERO!) if it's too dark for you put it around backlight 10. With backlight at zero, the Power Consumption is @ 36 W. Backlight @ 10 is about 43 W. The unit on standard mode, is a little warm to the touch when you feel the back panel but it doesn't heat up the room at all. I haven't tested it on input lag but from what I can see, it's pretty good. Game mode helps a lot. EDIT!!! being an ATI user, never had the chance to test this TV with an NVidia card. It seems with Nvidia, native mode works perfectly, with all the TV's screen real estate being used. on other modes though, the NVidia chip was actually a little big since the display also had the overscan. It seems ATI chips natively shrink their TV output.

I was a little leery of ordering this new 2010 model that didn't yet have full specifications or other product information available. If it was any brand other than Toshiba, which I've had great experiences with, I would have waited or moved to a different product.Anyway, I'm glad I did order this model 32E200U TV. Ordered from Amazon for a great price, it arrive in three days, in perfect packaging and brought right to my door by my friendly UPS driver. Unpacking and "assembly" was a snap - there really isn't much to do other than attach the stand, connect the cables, install the remote batteries, and turn it on. It asked a few simple set-up questions, scanned all my cable channels (finding some I didn't know I had access to), and was ready to go. The remote is super clear and simple to use, everything works, and the picture is great. Black is truely black, color is well balanaced, the image is bright, people and their clothes are their correct colors, and the sound is really quite good. We have a standard 480i cable connection, a 1080i upconverted DVD, laptop streaming NexFlix, and bluray. All work perfectly and switching between inputs is seemless. It has plenty of HDMI inputs (4) in addition to analog, digital, and cable. Can't say much else, other that to strongly recommend this product. Buy it, you'll like everything about it.

Recently purchased this set because of a great online deal (not from Amazon). I was a bit weary due to the fact that not much had been said about this TV. It arrived with no problems and took just a few minutes to get set up and running. The picture is amazing and rivals those of higher-end TVs. The blacks are some of the best I've seen on an hdtv and the picture quality is crisp.I was a little nervous purchasing a set with only 60Hz refresh rate due to the fact that I play a ton of Xbox 360. However, there was no noticeable slow-down. I then switched it to gaming mode and there was absolutely no slowdown. The picture viewing angles are perfect and looks crisp from wherever you view the set. As for audio, it sounds great out-of-the-box without the purchase of any speaker system. I have it at half its volume and that gives a booming loud sound. I have yet to try out the USB connections, but expect little to no problems with that. This is a great budget-priced set with many, many high-end features. You won't be disappointing.

This TV is great. We have a beautiful picture without glare. It was also very easy to set up. We thought we would need a blu-ray player to get this quality, but the DVDs look terrific with this TV. I have been very pleased. In addition, it looks great from anywhere in the room, unlike others I've seen that require viewing from certain angles. And the 32 inch screen is just right for our average-size living room.

This HDTV is an excellent value for the price. Perfect for the bedroom. It came fast and was ready out of the box. The picture is crisp, and the sound is much more than I had anticipated. All the inputs make it very easy to plug and play this TV with accessories. The menu itself also has many options that make this TV versatile. I was very satisfied with this product.

We gave away a ten year old CRT 32 inch Toshiba and replaced it with the 32E200U. The old tv worked perfectly ,but with a house full of HDTV we needed to replace the CRT. This model Toshiba works as well as I thought it would. I even bought it sight unseen from Amazon in December leaning on prior experience with Toshiba. The colors, the skin tones everything is typical Toshiba which is to say very good. The only thing that is slightly below par is the cabinet. I think they could have made the plastic a little better, but it is not ugly by any means. I am nit picking here about something that does not effect its performance. Toshiba continues to manufacture products of superior performance at a reasonable price. I know their laptops work just as well. Keep it up Toshiba!

Like one of the above posters I bought mine from [...] with free shipping. AN amazing TV, I can't add to the previous reviews, only small complaint is I wish the remote was multifunctional, but for the money another WOW !I tried to order another as a gift for that price and they were sold out ! Still a great TV for 499.00!

I needed - yes, needed - a TV for my small apt. I'm upgrading from a 22" monitor that was doubling for the TV. It's hard to find 1080p 32", esp for a good price, but this TV fits the bill perfectly. One thing I should mention though is that the 37" isn't much more expensive, so that should be considered as well. 32" might be on the small unless you're within 6' of it.The box came in entirely beat up, and the handles reveal the TV itself, so it was disconcerting (I bought from Amazon.com itself.) Set up was a breeze; there were four screws (had someone help me hold up the panel while installing the base) but other than that, at ~25lbs, it's light enough to carry it by yourself. The picture is great. It works well with 1080i/p sources and 720p sources, and it has the usual resize/crop features for older resolutions. Standard Def looked great!!! (i.e. Friends on late night TV). But absolutely High Def looks awesome. As mentioned elsewhere, the speakers are pretty "meh". They are sufficient for my use, and I'm not a huge audiophile, but I was watching my friend's Sony Bravia (albeit much bigger and more expensive) and that one was terrific. So in comparison, this is nothing to brag about, but it's good enough. The only pure 1080p source I have is from PS3 and playing GT5 and it looks great. I also have it hooked up to the PC. You could hook it up through VGA cable but you won't get 1080p support. So I got a DVI-HDMI cable (hook it up to HDMI-1 port) and a male-male audio cable (hook it up to PC Audio port), and Hulu and Youtube works like a charm. I have however dialed the resolution down from 1080 to 720 on my desktop because 1080 wasn't showing text as crisp as I'd like, and 720 looked much smoother; and also because the text would be too small at 1080. Not a huge deal, but definitely not running 1080 on my desktop so I lose some resolution. I have a few feature gripes. First of all, by default, all pictures came in this aspect ratio called "Natural", which CUTS OFF the edges of high-def sources!!! This made so sense to me and makes me very frustrated. You have to go to picture mode and turn it back to "Native", which shows the entire picture. And I had to do this EVERYTIME I change the channel or the input source. The manual said that this improves the picture by removing jagged/blank edges, but I can't find any high-def sources that have such edges. After a while I did find a setting (DEEPLY BURIED) that oftentimes would make my "Native" setting stick, but still not entirely reliable. It's very annoying. Also the onscreen display lingers for just a bit too long. I need to look for a setting. Otherwise, the remote is very nice, big large letters. The TV also looks very nice. What I love-love-love is you an turn off the logo LED light. Otherwise it'd be so annoying. Overall, I have no complaints about the biggest feature of the TV, which is the image. I have minor gripes, and would have looked into the 37", but this is just an excellent namebrand TV running at 1080p. You can't go wrong here.

I ordered this TV and for the first 2 weeks, everything was good. Then on Thanksgiving morning, the TV made a high pitch noise and froze. Had to unplug it to get it to stop and it happened again. After trying every configuration of hooking the TV up, decided it was time to try and replace the item.Contacted Amazon and they had a new TV out to me in 4 days. (The holiday weekend delayed things a bit.) Everything with the return went perfectly and I was very happy with Amazon's handling of the situation. I have returned the original and the replacement has been working fine so far, but we are at the 2 week point so we shall see. I have had previous experience with Toshiba TV's and had no problems, so I was a little sad that this TV failed so quickly. Hopefully they can live up to my expectations on the second one. TV image looks good, especially for the price. We didn't go for a bigger TV because this one fit perfectly into our entertainment center. The multiple HDMI ports were a major selling point for us. As long as this one survives, I would recommend this TV to people looking for an inexpensive LCD tv.

This review is based on watching the TV for about three days for about one hour each day (about 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night). This Toshiba 32E200U 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV replaced an aging 27" JVC CRT TV. We have "rabbit ears" and watch TV in HD over the airwaves for free, and we are located within about 40 miles of Philadelphia.Overall - the product is decent. I'd've given it a 4.5 star rating if it were available. Set-up: Took the product out of the box, attached the base (initially without the base screws because I didn't bother reading the directions), and attached the antenna and DVD player. Turned it on, set up the initial language and then performed a channel scan. The initial settings were WAY too harsh and needed significant tuning to tone down the picture to look much better (brightness, color and tint all lowered). Frankly, I didn't even read the instruction manual and was able to set-up and use the TV with no user problems. Viewing: After setting the menus where they need to be, the image looks very nice. Haven't viewed too much on it yet, but the picture looks fine. The TV is only a 60Hz, but based on our experience with our Sharp 37" at 60Hz, there should be not visible issues. Also, there is definitely a "sweet spot" for viewing. I noticed a slight change in the image quality when viewing it seated in front of it versus standing up. Not bad, just a slight change. The viewing angle is decent too. Flexibility: The TV has a number of inputs and should accommodate most situations. As more and more devices go to HDMI and as this unit does have 3 HDMI inputs, this shouldn't be too much of an issue. But for those that have older devices, be warned. There is a USB connection, but I believe it is on the side (sorry, I'm not at home as I write this) - therefore, since the unit is IN (rather than on) an entertainment center, this feature will probably never be used. Sound: The TV is viewed in an area that is about 10' x 12'. The sound is acceptable with no obvious issues. Haven't tested it with a movie with a lot of bass / explosions to exercise it (yet). They are TV speakers after all, and one should expect as much for such - versus a full surround sound system. 02/25/11: This morning, discovered that the news had automatically showed closed captions when the set was muted. Don't remember enabling that, but I'm glad it is there. Yet another nice feature. This TV just keeps getting better. PROS: + It's a Toshiba. + You can turn off the "Toshiba" logo below the picture (yea, I KNOW it's a Toshiba, and I don't need to be reminded of it every time I watch it). + Easy set-up. + Full 1080 HD. + Info button. We can't compare this feature to what you may experience with cable or FiOS or dish, but for our broadcast TV, the info button on the TV gives you the general information (when available) about the current show (synopsis, rating, definition, etc.) and when pressed again, gives you the information (when available) for the _NEXT_SHOW_. Neat! + Favorites (newly added 02/16): if favorites are set, simply press the directional left or right to highlight one of the up-to-five set favorites and press enter to jump to that channel. + Can change the TV station labels. So now instead of showing "WTFXD", I changed it to show "Fox". + Unused inputs can be "hidden" (blocked, skipped). CONS: - Not too many connections. It was able to accommodate us, but barely. There is no s-video input and only one set of component connections (and if you use the component, you lose the use of the composite). - Menu / interface. This was a significant draw back (but not a deal breaker to us). On another HDTV, the unused inputs can be bypassed but not on this set. There are 8 inputs listed (including two on the side). We only use two - the TV and the component. (Removed the issue about having to cycle through the inputs because unused inputs can be skipped - it IS in the manual, one must READ the manual though...). - Not a universal remote. Not a deal breaker, but if you have a couple components connected, you will need a separate universal remote or the remotes for the other devices. With 3 HDMI inputs, the expectation is that numerous devices will likely be connected to the TV. |
