2.0 out of 5 stars Ultimately Disappointing
At first, viewing the Toshiba 46UX600 was a "wow" experience; the picture was as good, if not better, than than the 20-in flat-screen CRT Toshiba I had owned for years and years, and the $899 Costco price was about the best for an LED HDTV anywhere. But after a week or so, the minor disappointments started and just kept adding up. The first, of course, was the exclusion...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price, December 29, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba 46UX600U 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED LCD HDTV with Net TV (Black Gloss) (Electronics)
I think the rating on this tv is pretty much right on, 4.5 stars. To the people that rated it 2 stars, that is just harsh! You didn't order a tv and get a microwave - read the product description before you buy it. Anyway, having said that there are definite
Pros and Cons to this tv. Most if not all of them have been listed already but, in case you care what I think (I know, you don't) I will tell you anyway. I must warn you - I am a nerd, however I am not a tv nerd. I have found tv nerds are in a category all by themselves. I do love reading reviews by tv nerds though, haha, always cracks me up how they will give a bad rating on an option/feature that is like the latest/greatest but has not quite been perfected, anyway.

Pros:
-The picture quality is great
-The picture for the price is even better! Sure, you can spend $300 more and get a hyped up Samsung, but for my money this is just as good.
-It hooks up to the internet via WIFI and it's pretty damn solid from my experience
-It comes with the WIFI dongle (ok, I just wanted to write dongle in my review, ha).
-The DLNA server feature allows you to turn this into a media renderer (I turned my windows 7 machine into a mini media server and it is pretty good).
-It comes with YouTube and Vudu (which includes Facebook, Flickr, & Twitter, etc)
-There are enough HDMI outlets for most consumer needs
-It's an LED tv, so it's pretty damn thin (I read arguments that it is thicker than tvs in it's class - I also saw those tvs are like $300-$500 more and we are talking like .25 in. (one quarter of an inch). I think your wall mount is going to be thicker than your tv dill-holes haha jk, but seriously, under 2 inches is just fine. Unless you want to wait for OLED 46 in and spend $10k, mute point.
-There is a PC connection, but nowadays this standard on all HDTVs. The good thing is that you can connect HDMI to HDMI (if you have that support on your PC) and it works flawlessly. Actually, if you bought a computer in the last year or two it probably should have HDMI connectors, but amazingly still kind of rare I am noticing in PCs (which is completely odd). One downside to the PC input or any backside inputs on this tv is that they are difficult to reach once mounted to the wall. Most people maybe connect things before mounting I am guessing or have a better mount than I do (who knows)

Now, with all of these pros, there are definitely cons. I will try to list the obvious first and a possible solution.
Cons:
-No Netflix: ok, that does suck and I am not sure why a firmware update can't fix that seeing as how other Toshiba models have Netflix. Solution: go buy a $90 blu-ray player that supports Netflix (that's what I did). I think it's worth the tv investment saving a few hundred on the tv and spending on a blu-ray player (besides, Toshiba saved you $90 already by providing a WIFI dongle). And honestly, you just bought an HD LED 120 HZ tv, are you telling me you don't need/want a blu-ray player anyway??? Psssshht, haha
-True, there is lack of A/V RCA input. There is an option to use the A/V/Y but when hooking up the
Wii for instance, the video is black and white: Solution: another cable for $15. This is probably one of the main reasons I think the tv is only 4.5 stars. I mean I could argue that in the digital HD age A/V cables are dated, but devices still need to support it. I mean ok, so there is no VHS player built in, but we have far surpassed that technology, but we have not moved quite out of reach to not provide an A/V outlet.
-On a black/dark lit screen sometimes the text color is faded (or backlit)...I am thinking this is because of the LEDs and how that works to compensate for the darks, but I need one of those tv nerds to explain it and put a smile on my face haha. This is probably not even a con.
-DLNA media files supported, ok again, probably not a con, more of a gripe. If the con is against a feature in a pro, it's most likely just a gripe, haha. So with all the digital world evolving I find it a little weird that some HD file formats are not supported on this tv (for streaming) when it is an HD tv! I wasn't able to hear sound when
I streamed a blu-ray (I think mkv format or something). I could just burn it to a BD disc.

Ok, so my cons are more in depth because some of them are a stretch. I think almost all of the cons
have some workaround solution. I also strongly believe the pros outweigh the cons. I bought a nice tv for under or right at $1k, it offers some great technology and it looks awesome (especially for the price)! Ok, enough rambling - bottom line, this tv is well worth the price tag, if you rated under 3 stars you might want to reconsider or go in for an "evaluation". People giving this under 3 stars are probably the ones driving Kias and rating them 2 stars (you get what you pay for). If you want a Bentley for the price of a Kia, think again. This tv isn't the Bentley of tvs, but it also doesn't cost as much. I thinks its like a Porsche at the price of a Mustang. It is well worth the price for all the features it provides, there seem to be practical workarounds for almost all of the "flaws", and I would totally recommend this tv to anyone in the market for a 46 inch LED. THE END!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba 46UX600U 46" 1080p 120Hz LED LCD HDTV w/NET TV, October 4, 2010

This review is from: Toshiba 46UX600U 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED LCD HDTV with Net TV (Black Gloss) (Electronics)
I purchased this most EXCELLENT LED HDTV this past July, 2010, at a price almost $300 MORE than listed today and have not ONE single regret! I was first introduced to an LED 1080p "screen" with my new HP 17.3" AMD Dual-Core laptop w/BluRay player. The CLARITY, CRISPNESS and contrast ratio of the screen on my laptop was nothing shy of AMAZING and I knew, then, that the next (first) HDTV I was going to purchase was going to be an LED HDTV. At the time I purchased this Toshiba, the "bigbox" retailers had it priced anywhere from $1,900.00 at a minimum to $2,200.00 and more at the higher end. I purchased it NEW via AMAZON.COM for $1,200.00 (keeping in mind that the USB Internet accessory continues to be RARE in LCD, LED, DLP's and other models and makes of HDTV's ... and to find that "option" AND have the USB Wireless accessory INCLUDED is even MORE RARE!)
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Toshiba 46" LED HDTV and suggest you purchase it IMMEDIATELY!!
The CLARITY and CRISPNESS of the picture is beyond compare!
With FOUR HDMI ports, CONNECTIVITY is a non-issue compared to a majority of other makes and models.
The approx. ONE HUNDRED ONLINE WIDGETS continue to update so the entertainment choices are always FRESH, EXCITING, INTERESTING and INFORMATIVE!
Everyone who has viewed my Toshiba has been MEZMERIZED by it's INTENSE CONTRAST RATIO, CLARITY and PRESENCE as you truly are treated to an IMMERSIVE HOME THEATRE EXPERIENCE.
And, if you are fortunate enough to have a BluRay player you are going to simply be BLOWN AWAY by this TV's INTENSE 1080P POWERFUL PRESENTATION!
The Remote Control is EASY to employ, the ability to "label" the HDMI inputs is equally EASY and the ability to go deep into the submenus (do NOT be "intimidated" by this) is QUICK, INTUITIVE & EASY!
I MUST suggest STRONGLY that you read the included Owner's Manual, as it is in PLAIN ENGLISH, EASY TO READ and INVALUABLE in quickly learning ALL of this marvel's FUNCTIONS & SETTINGS.
Oh, I might also mention that I have had Z E R O "problems, quirks, defects or difficulties" of ANY SORT with this most exquisite device and do NOT expect a single one.
I did purchase the 4 YEAR extended warranty, as any intelligent shopper would, in order to protect this investment ... as most, if any, "problems" will occur during this time period and I'm equally pleased I invested in this protection.
I hope this gives you a semi-detailed review of this product and it helps you to decide to purchase this Toshiba!

2.0 out of 5 stars Ultimately Disappointing, December 25, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba 46UX600U 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED LCD HDTV with Net TV (Black Gloss) (Electronics)
The first, of course, was the exclusion of Netflix in favor of the pay-per-view service Vudu. The second was the sound quality--at best only fair. Third was was boot time--30 seconds before the picture appears after you turn the set on. Fourth is the backlighting issue which is quite pronounced when watching DVDs. Finally, for me, the deciding factor for returning the set to Costco was that during the recent rains in L.A., the ATSC tuner could not pull in a signal despite my using a 60-mile Weingard antenna for my OTR reception. So for the heck of it, I hooked up my $40 Airlink digital converter box to the set and the cheap little converter box pulled in every channel flawlessly while the $1000 Toshiba could only manage in a "low signal." I decided to return the set to Costco the next day.

The Toshiba 46UX600, as noted in a previous review, produces a great picture. But also, in response to the reviewer who compared the TV to "shy, quiet girl at a party," there's are reasons nobody's asking her to dance and, if so, to dance only once. Sure, she's nice to look at, but as the old saying goes "beauty is only skin deep." And when you're spending a thousand bucks on a TV you'd like to know that there's more there than meets the eye.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome HDTV, October 31, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba 46UX600U 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED LCD HDTV with Net TV (Black Gloss) (Electronics)
Unlike some people have posted, I have not noticed any light spots in the corners of the screen when viewing darker scenes on this unit. TV exceeded my expectations and for a great price. It is true that it seems Toshiba did not put a lot into the sound system of this TV. That may explain one reason for the lower price than a Samsung or Sony, however I am the kind of buyer where I would rather they sink all production cost into outstanding picture quality vs. putting money into the audio components. Most consumers who require great audio will have an external system anyway. I saved quite a bit purchasing this TV, and cannot ask for a better picture for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV, August 15, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba 46UX600U 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED LCD HDTV with Net TV (Black Gloss) (Electronics)
So far, we love this television! We've only owned it for about 2 weeks, but the picture is phenomenal. We don't even have HDTV (yet), but the picture is wonderful even when viewed with a digital signal. We have watched a couple of blu-ray movies and the color and clarity is simply gorgeous. This TV has so many bells and whistles, it's unbelievable. You can watch YouTube, download movies, check out podcasts on Fox News, MSNBC, PBS programs, you can listen to Pandora radio....you name it. This TV has it all. So far, so good. If we find any negatives, I'll be sure to post them. In the meantime, we LOVE this set! A lot of bang for your buck.

But a much better price thru the end of November is from Costco warehouse ~$899.99 (after instant $100 rebate)

4.0 out of 5 stars very good value, December 23, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba 46UX600U 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED LCD HDTV with Net TV (Black Gloss) (Electronics)
This is an excellent tv and very good value for the money. I'm very happy with my purchase. The picture quality is very good, audio had some buzzing issue so I use external speakers, Internet was easy to setup, Vudu app is very nice. It would've been nice if it came with Netflix but instead of waiting, I bought a BD player with Netflix app. BTW, if you get a Toshiba BD player and you can use TV's remote to control the BD player without any special programming.

I recently watched Inception Blu-ray disc on this TV and it was amazing how clear and beautiful the picture looked. If I were Mr. Nolan, I would watch and admire my own work everyday.

I've always found Toshiba to be a little weak on marketing unlike Sony and Samsung, like a shy, quiet girl at a party but you will find their products are solidly made and a bargain for what you get. I highly recommend this TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, at least for my limited needs (Media center display), July 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba 46UX600U 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED LCD HDTV with Net TV (Black Gloss) (Electronics)
My review is very limited in scope and my direct experience of competitive models is almost nil, but I may have a few observations which someone may well find useful.

I need it as nothing but an HDMI monitor for a computer based media center. As such, it needs to output the digital HDMI video signal and that's about it. No audio - I use a separate receiver/speakers. I just want it to do a good pixel-perfect output with minimal processing.

I'm loving it. Took me a little time to find the settings for making it display pixel-for-pixel output with minimal processing. The "PC" output profile, with contrast down and brightness up a little seems good (not sure why most TV defaults have the contrast overdone by default - looks punchy in the shop display perhaps). Interestingly, on other profiles, if you turn the sharpening below about -25 (range is -50 to +50), it actually actively softens - puts an anti-halo around things. In the PC profile, zero (default) sharpening really is zero.

I was concerned with a side-lit LED display - that it would be unevenly lit, but I've done a number of tests with real and artificial output and the illumination looks completely flat to me. I'm also amazed at the viewing angles. It looks very good from almost everywhere, and the black is very black. It's giving off a lot less heat than my 3.5 year old flouro-lit 32", which is shamed next to this machine.

I'm finding the automatic brightness adjustment to be useless.

My negatives are all pretty much trivial. The remote is programmable, but useless to me as I can't set the volume keys to control my receiver while otherwise controlling the TV :(. The supplied wifi adapter sticks visibly out the side...

It has a nice IR blaster pass-through. Good to have to allow hiding other components. It's kind of wierd to have the TV connected to the net. Not sure how much I'll use all that, especially given that I it connected to a media center anyway.

I haven't had it long, but I'll be back to edit the review, particularly if I find any negatives.

The purchase arrived before the estimated delivery date....

Service was great.....

We have had the set only four weeks but so far we have had no problems...Since it was a major purchase we did purchase an extended warranty. I usually do not do that but there just isn't a lot of info out there on a LED-LCD TV.
