Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Get the sharpest and clearest images possible from both HD and standard television programming and your favorite DVD movies with the technologically advanced 52-inch Toshiba 52HMX95 Cinema Series DLP projection TV with network connectivity to your PC. Vivid imagery and vibrant colors will pop off the screen, thanks to the integrated Texas Instruments' HD2+ chip, which enables a much higher contrast ratio along with a more consistent picture than other DLP chips due to filled-in mirror "vias" in the center of each pixel. This set has a built-in analog/digital/digital cable tuners (NTSC/ATSC/QAM) that will receive free over-the-air HDTV signals (ATSC) and HDTV signals from a cable connection (QAM). It's also Digital Cable Ready (via the CableCard slot), so you can enjoy digital cable without an additional box or remote using an optional CableCard. It also comes with TV Guide On Screen and Toshiba's innovative Channel Browser "back" button feature--similar to a PC browser back button--that allows easy access to recently viewed channels.

DLP (which stands for Digital Light Processing) uses an optical semiconductor to recreate source material with a fidelity analog systems can't match. While other technologies lose a certain amount of light in transit, the microscopic mirrors in a DLP projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. It also features better color uniformity over time--no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible. It's the leading display technology for products like small portable conference room projectors and professional venue entertainment systems.

The technology at the center of the 62HM95 is the new Toshiba Digital Light Engine named Talen X, which utilizes Texas Instruments' xHD4 chip, advanced optics, and Toshiba's DEEP Picture and Xtreme BLAC technologies to provide high resolution with improved brightness and contrast. It also includes the new PixelPure AT Digital Video Processing, utilizing new Adaptive Technology to create further improved picture quality, the new Radiance 150 Hi-Bright Lamp for noticeably brighter images and a TheaterFine DFP Screen with anti-glare coating that results in increased detail and noticeably deeper blacks.

The PixelPure AT digital video processor offers motion adaptive de-interlacing, adaptive MPEG processing, and adaptive contrast and color enhancement for a consistently high picture quality. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter (4 MB, 10-Bit) constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time, to reduce dramatically edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

The 62HM95 also includes include THINC (Toshiba Home Interactive Network Connection) home entertainment networking, which allows you to connect the TV to your PC and play MP3 audio files and JPEG pictures using only the TV remote. The TheaterNet Control System simplifies the control of external components through both an IR jack and Firewire (IEEE1394) port, the latter of which can be used to transmit digital video and audio and allow for recording of HDTV. This set also includes a built-in OmniViewer memory card slot, which is compatible with a wide variety of popular formats--Secure Digital (SD), MultiMedia (MMC), Memory Stick, Compact Flash, and Smart Media--enabling you to view photo slideshows directly from your digital camera's memory card.

Perfect for viewing high-definition content and your favorite widescreen movies, this set offers a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. Other features include both picture-in-picture (PIP) and picture-on-picture (POP) capabilities, tri-lingual on-screen menus (English, French, Spanish), channel labeling, channel return, channel browse, favorite channel, and V-Chip parental controls.

The 40-watt stereo audio system (two 20-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies. It features the following video and audio connections:

  • Composite AV (RCA) In: 2
  • S-Video In: 2
  • Component Video In (Y PB PR): 2
  • HDMI In: 1
  • RF In: 2
  • Firewire: 2
  • Digital Coaxial Audio Out: 1

Tech Talk
HDMI -- HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image. The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device. The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI sources but includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding - You Just Have to See it, November 18, 2005
This review is from: Toshiba 52HMX95 Integrated Hd Dlp Ptvcable Card-cinema Series (Electronics)
Have had this set for a week... one word - Outstanding. Be sure to buy a new DVD player which supports HDMI for an amazing experience. I put mine into a corner of my living room (bought the stand... nice aesthetics) and it looks almost a nice as a plasma. I couldn't be more pleased. I spent WAY too much time deciding on which set to get (I'm VERY technically oriented.) Buy the "Cinema Series" not the cheaper Theater Wide sets, you will be able to tell a difference.

With ANY (and I mean any) LCD/DLP/LCOS/HiLA projection set... buy the extended warranty (I NEVER EVER do normally) but KNOW THIS.... all these sets have projection bulbs which WILL need replacement periodically. These bulbs range in price from $250 to $400. The life of the bulb is not something you can guess, but its driven by how much you use your set. My extended warranty for 5 years cost me $500.00 (the cost of a bulb, installed.) Before you run over to a plasma set....they have issues too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely , worth a look, December 26, 2005

After months of research, I stumbled upon the Toshiba 52hmx95 in a store. This set is strikingly beautiful. The exterior is like polished , black onyx. The picture quality was excellent. The colors were rich, blacks were deep and the whites were crisp and bright compared to the other DLP and LCD sets in the store. This is probably due to a new brighter lamp this set uses. This DLP HDTV is feature packed.Take your time getting familiar with the numerous features of this TV.For example, I can insert my Sony memory stick and view images from my camera. My main viewing has been DVD movies and I am very impress by the the sharpness of the pictures and the colors.I did not have to make any adjustments to the picture color settings. The universal remote was compatable with all of my Audio/Visual equipment. Although , I have been working with this set for less than a week ,overall this a great set!

1.0 out of 5 stars Lousy Customer Service, December 8, 2005

Purchased this tv and was not as impressed with picture at home as I was in store. Salesperson told me I needed Cable card for optimum picture. After cable card was installed could only get 1 channel. Toshiba
said it was software problem and they would send me a software update 2 day fedex. 3days later no update. I have called 3 subsequent times and was told it would be overnighted each time, by supervisors no less. Have yet to receive software update so TV is not usable for cable, DVD only. It's been over a week and no resolution. I expected for 2500.00 plus I would get better customer service. Hope nothing else goes wrong with it!
