Widgets as well. It's a great way keep up with friends or the news, browse pictures on the big screen, and download movies with apps like YouTube, Facebook, Picasa, Pandora, Twitter, Netflix and more. Watch fast-action video and sports without the blurring, thanks to our ClearFrame 120Hz technology. Integrated Wi-Fi* gives you convenient connectivity minus the cable clutter. You'll also be able to build a home theater more easily thanks to one extra USB plus four HDMI ports. And our new ultra-thin Blade design with chrome trim ensures these sets will look great in any room of your house.

Key Features:

Blade Design with Chrome Trim, Ultra-Slim Depth and Bezel

Through "elegant minimalism," this TV offers style and sophistication that complements the decor of most any room, without overpowering it.

1080p Resolution

Delivering more than just high-definition, the 1080p full HD* output on this TV represents the finest HD picture quality available today. Skin tones, textures and landscapes suddenly seem like real life. Shadows are deeper and richer. Colors pop. Highlights come alive with amazing character. The secret is more pixels. In fact, on a 1920 x 1080 resolution screen, 1080p full HD* content displays over 2,000,000 pixels—a standard 720p HD display less than half that.

LED Technology

Driven by LED backlight technology, this TV displays images using liquid crystal illumination like traditional LCD models. But unlike LCD TVs, the LED backlight is made of several light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The result is a picture offering deeper blacks, brighter whites and vivid colors.

ClearFrame 120Hz

doubles standard frame rates to create a 120Hz effect that reduces any blurring caused by high-speed video. Using advanced computer processing, it improves picture clarity without impacting brightness or adding flicker. Fast-action movies or sports have never looked better.

DynaLight

Adding intensity to blacks and selectively reducing the intensity of highlight areas, DynaLightgives the TV picture a more balanced, true-to-life appearance. It utilizes advanced histogram technology to monitor the brightness of each video frame and automatically adjust backlight intensity based on what's being shown. This allows for numerous levels of control, and can create dynamic contrast many times what you'd normally get. The result is a powerful picture with deep blacks for increased detail and incredible depth.

CineSpeed LED Panel

This special LED screen delivers superior high-speed video. Plus, its wide viewing angle ensures you'll experience better viewing from a variety of seating areas.

AutoView

Because your TV should be bright enough for high-contrast viewing during the day, but not so intense that it strains your eyes at night, Toshiba AutoView takes the hassle out of making those adjustments yourself. It monitors both ambient room light and the incoming video signal, automatically adjusting TV settings to produce an ideal picture in virtually any lighting condition.

Native Mode

Many TV broadcasts, movies and other content are produced in standard def 480i and 480p or high-def 720p. Depending on the show or your preferences, there are times when you may not want your Toshiba 1080p or 720p TV to automatically upconvert those signals. Native Mode lets you easily take control. On our 1080p HDTVs, Native Mode eliminates unnecessary scaling of full HD signals that can reduce overall image resolution--and quality. Activated on either our 720p or 1080p TVs, it also displays the image edges many sets lose to normal over-scanning.

Gaming Mode

Lets you enjoy hair-trigger action on your Toshiba TV with a special setting that reduces game controller delay.

Expert Mode

Allows for more precise picture adjustments, creating a totally optimized home theater experience.

NetTV* with Yahoo! Widgets

A suite of Internet apps—YouTube and Facebook, Picasa, Pandora, Twitter, Netflix and more—that let you keep up with friends or the news, browse pictures on the big screen or download the latest blockbuster hits.

Built-in Wi-Fi

Lets you enjoy convenient in-home connectivity without the cable clutter, and makes it easier to stream* content from your media server or the Internet.

DLNA Certification

This TV is designed to set-up, synch and operate seamlessly with other DLNA electronics you might add to your home entertainment network--including media servers, receivers, DVD players and more.

Audyssey EQ

Improves sound quality through special algorithms that calculate the difference between the original recorded audio level and the level at which it's being played. It combines information from incoming source levels with actual output sound levels in the room, while taking into account human perception and room acoustics too. So you'll experience superior bass response, octave-to-octave balance and surround impressions that are accurate at almost any volume.

HDMI with CEC* and InstaPort

Technology that enables you to easily connect to high-definition video and immersive surround sound in one cable, and control like-equipped home theater components with one remote control. InstaPort dramatically speeds up HDMI switching, reducing the typical five- or six-second responses seen with standard inputs to a fraction of that time.

USB with Video, Music and Photo

Easily connect to your favorite music and photos via USB.

RJ45 Ethernet Port

Clip in a cable and add your Toshiba TV to a home entertainment network. Then get set to enjoy photos, video and other multimedia off your server, or stream movies right from the Internet.

High-Res PC Input

Enables you to enjoy high-definition images when you connect a PC to your Toshiba TV

VESA Mounting Pattern

A pattern of video industry standardized holes used for mounting to stands or wall, which allows for use of universal mounts when mounting your TV.

I recently bought this TV to replace (like so many others) a Mitsubishi DLP. I wasn't interested in a top of the line TV - to me LED wasn't a priority, nor was 3D. I simply wanted a good priced, quality LCD that would properly produce clear HD 1080p resolution. When I came across this TV I was very hesitant to place the order, as there were simply no reviews anywhere. At the size and price it seemed too good to be true. After a few weeks of enjoying the TV I can happily report that I have not been disappointed at all!

However, this TV is certainly not for the hard core techies out there. If you're the type to worry about comparing contrast ratios, refresh rates, and 3D then this probably won't satisfy your needs. Although this TV is listed as an LED, the picture produced is really just a true LCD resolution. You won't get the overly realistic "soap opera effect" that LEDs have, which quite honestly I don't enjoy that much to begin with, except for watching sports. If you're interested in simply producing quality HD picture, then all you really need is 1080p/120hz, and thats exactly what this TV delivers - clear, crisp HD with no blur. Also, the built in wifi is great. It picked up my home wireless signal right away and Netflix and Youtube come in perfectly, and in HD when available. Another extremely pleasant surprise about this TV is its thinness! It is shockingly thin, it easily compares with the Samsung UN-series LED's. When the Amazon delivery guys took it out of the box for assembly they couldn't stop talking about how thin it was - it simply looks like the price should be 3 times as much just for that alone.

The only con, and for many it will be a big con, is the sound.

I've had this TV for about a month now. The picture quality is very good. It's also a nice looking TV. For the price, I think it's a great deal. The problem, however, is that the internet connectivity just doesn't work well at all. It doesn't really bother me, since I have other devices that can stream netflix and other services. Plus, the 55sl412u, which is the model without internet connectivity, is actually more expensive.

I'm actually on my second TV. I ended up exchanging through Amazon. Unfortunately, the second TV has the same problem that the first one did. The issue is that whenever I connect the TV to the internet, the controls will completely freeze after a few minutes. The TV stops responding to the remote and to inputs on the panel itself. The only thing it will do is turn off after 15 seconds if I press the power key. Connecting over wireless makes the TV stop responding much more quickly than over ethernet. Sometimes it might last an hour or so over ethernet. Over wireless, it will generally stop responding to any commands within 5-10 minutes. If I disconnect the TV from the internet, I have no problems.

The firmware on both TVs was the 1.1.12 firmware that you'll get if you update the firmware from the TV. I don't know if there is some sort of bug in the firmware, or if the chipset is just faulty, but if you buy this TV, don't count on the internet connectivity actually working.

Bottom Line: It's a great TV for the price. Great picture. Great price. Don't count on the internet stuff actually working. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but I just can't give it 4 without the advertised features working correctly.

I didn't purchase this TV through Amazon (sorry) but thought I'd give my opinion to help Amazon out. I picked this TV up at a local retailer on sale for $999. The wifey said "take it for that price!" (which was a shocker in itself!!!) It was $1299+ everywhere else and I didn't want to buy one online because if I didn't like it I had the option of taking it back to the store and not having to ship it back. It's a nice looking TV for the price.
Yeah, the sound totally sucks but if you're buying a TV for the sound then there's something wrong with you!!!
Bad sound can easily be fixed with a sound bar. Bad video can't. I'm not a videophile person but the picture looked like all the other $1200-$1500 55" LEDs that I'd seen and it also has built in Wi-Fi, Skype, Netflix etc. Blu-Ray movies look awesome and DirecTV HD programming as well. No complaints here...it was a steal for $999!!! I pretty much got what I paid for...and then some. The 4 stars is because of the sound only.

I don't normally write reviews which may make me a bad Amazon user, as I rely so much on others' reviews, but I want to let any one considering this TV what I think so they can make a better decision. The reason I chose this TV was the size-to-price value, you would be hard pressed to find something in this size for a better price. I read the reviews of the sound quality being terrible and I can confirm this. TVs this large are not meant to be used with the stock speakers, the manufacturer saved some money cutting the sound quality but I get the feeling the savings are passed on to the consumer. I purchased a VIZIO VSB200 Universal HD Sound Bar to accompany my purchase and it has worked out great. I won't take off one star for audio like so people have because I knew what to expect coming into the product. Picture quality is great, I put on Avatar in 1080P and the picture was stunning. The screen is so large standard cable with co-axial is a bit pixelated but not too badly. The picture settings are detailed but not overly in depth. I am not a videophile but I am very impressed.

I have Netflix on my Xbox360 but having it on the TV is even better. Just one button and I am browsing for movies. I have set up a DNLA server on my computer (Mediatomb) and use it to stream video to TV and that function works great and is very easy to set up. The only video file it does not support so far is a .mkv in 1080P.

I hope this review helps out.
