Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Note: Toshiba 57H93 57" Integrated HDTV Projection TV is no longer being manufactured. You may want to consider purchasing the newer Toshiba 57H94 57" HD-Integrated Projection TV instead.

Toshiba's 57H93 integrated projection HDTV improves standard-definition sources, displays high-definition signals, and even receives high-definition broadcasts--it requires no external DTV set-top box in order for you to view true 1080i programming. The set delivers stunning images from home-theater components, too, including progressive-scan DVD players, DVRs, satellite receivers, and camcorders.

The included Gemstar interactive program guide shows program data on both digital and analog channels, from both terrestrial and cable sources. It can even control external recording devices for one-touch recording. You can feed the set custom programming, too: the front panel features a multicard flash-memory slot with a built-in JPEG photo viewer so you enjoy digital photos right off your Secure Digital and SmartMedia flash cards.

The set's TruView feature combines several enhancements (black level expansion, fine white, flesh tone correction, and color detail enhancer) to automatically display accurate picture and color details. Also automated, HD Dynamic Contrast continually analyzes picture information and sharpens and deepens those parts of the picture with the most detailed information.

And since not everything you watch will be high-definition in origin (wouldn't that be nice), CrystalScan HDSC upconverts all video signals (including 480i/p) to 1080i HD. This significantly reduces jagged-line artifacts for a smoother, more natural image. (Selectable 540p, for those who want a progressive-scan image from a progressive-scan source, is available through the onscreen menu.) CableClear DNR+ Digital Noise Reduction circuitry optimizes poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable by eliminating video noise (snow).

Meanwhile, DFine high-speed velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction processes RF and composite-video signals, reducing detail noise (seen as shimmering or flicker) in complex scenes. TouchFocus digital convergence creates perfect corner-to-corner focus at the press of a button, and Cinema Mode (3:2 pulldown) circuitry identifies film-based content from DVDs and reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce a movie's original 24-frame rate. This eliminates artifacts and leaves you with sharp, accurate full-frame progressive images.

The 57H93 is loaded with connections of all stripes, including a DVI HDTV input--handy if you're using it in conjunction with an existing DTV set-top box. Dual ColorStream component-video inputs accommodate compatible high-resolution devices, while standard composite-, S-video, and RF inputs handle everything else you might want to connect.

For audio, the 20-watts-per-channel 57H93 offers SRS WOW, combining SRS 3D, TruBass (which boosts low-frequency perception for dramatic bass effects), and Focus (which raises the perceived sound image vertically to clarify voices) to enhance your home-theater sound. An optical digital-audio output feeds Dolby Digital surround signals to compatible AV receivers and speaker systems, StableSound maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal, and Toshiba's Sub Bass System (SBS) boosts a program's low-end audio for additional dramatic impact.

The set's TheaterNet Icon IR control system takes TheaterLink IR passthrough capability to new heights through the use of onscreen icons and virtual control bars to operate source devices such as a VCRs or DVD players--even if those components are hidden from view.

What's in the Box
TV, cabinet, remote control, batteries, IR dongle (for use with set's TheaterLink IR capability), user's manual, and warranty information.

This review is from: Toshiba 57H93 57-Inch Integrated HDTV Projection TV (Electronics)
This TV rocks. Packaged with lots of features and connectivity options and HDTV built in tuner. Picture quality is very good. No wonder Toshiba is better than Sony in Projection TV's (I own both). Wouldn't want to talk about all the features as those can be read by anyone in product features in many websites. A must buy. This Theaterwide series form Toshiba is real power packed in features. Sound quality and picture settings are very easy and crisp. The Auto TV guide one touch recording is fantastic. I was more interested in the IEEE and HDI connectivity. There is also SmartMdiaCard reader to watch pics out of the digicam. I bought indoor HDTV antenna from Jensen and it works great. Digital local channels off the air are free and you can watch HDTV prime time programs without any other cost (I am watching Fox, ABC and NBC digital ones). Sound output fascinates with 40W speakers and SRS Wow.There is another line from Toshiba known as Cinema Series. That looks little refined than this TheatreWide one but then if you plan to spend that much, you might as well buy an LCD or DLP projection TV.
