4.0 out of 5 stars It's a very good item in this price
It's a photo frame with basic functionality. The WiFi feature is not so great and it can be neglected at the time of purchase. Picture quality is good. The screen looks small compared to the border. The border around the screen is little wide. There is no cable connector to PC or laptop. better to go for a 10 inch photo frame. After all i got the item exactly as...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not ready for prime time, April 14, 2010

I've tried a variety of these wifi-enabled digital frames and always end up disappointed. Whether it's some incompatible file format or intermittent dropping of a wireless signal, there always seems to be some problem with these frames.

Specifically with this Toshiba, it has a, somewhat, clumsy set-up, is unable to reconnect to a wireless network after programmed power down and power up, randomly won't play certain photos off an SD card, repeatedly has difficulty connecting to framechannel. These are the kind of things that make these frames frustrating.

Still looking for a more robust digital frame.

For the price this frame has excellent features including the ability to pull content from the internet either through FrameChannel or directly from Picasa Web Albums. The screen quality is good but the viewing angles aren't sufficient. I currently have it on a shelf that puts it a little above eye level when seated. Unfortunately, when seated the picture becomes dark and you lose a lot of the detail. That's the minor issue.

The main issue is with the wireless network. First of all, it's a pain to set up and the instructions aren't very good. I'm pretty technical so it wasn't that big of a deal. The real problem is that after about 10 to 20 minutes of connection time, my entire wireless setup starts dropping connections. It drops the connection to my laptops and my desktop (connected with a wireless adapter) every couple of minutes until the frame loses it's connection. Once the frame loses it's connection and quits trying to reconnect, my network goes back to normal. It's very frustrating and it happens every single time I connect. Fortunately, it caches the pictures so I've had it running for days with no internet connection but all of my pictures cycling through.

All in all, it's a pretty good frame. If I could figure out its wireless issue I would be extremely happy with it. As it is, it's OK.

Perfect for sharing Picasa pics with the broader family. Easy to join the frame to your wifi and then just set it on Framechannel - not local photos. www.framechannel.com is unique to Toshiba and does a great job streaming news, weather, sports scores, etc. to your frame. You also direct it to an online Picasa album and it streams live. I set one up for my mother and now she gets live updates to our family photos from across the country! All easy to use - good web interface. Highly recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looking for another WiFi option, June 27, 2011

Initially I bought this frame for its WiFi capabilities. Buyers should know that Framechannel has gone out of business so if you are buying this to synch with Flickr or Facebook or some other social media site, you now can't. You can still sync to Picasa but that is it.

The frame looks nice, but the touch screen does not work well. You have to push the buttons hard and multiple times to get it to work. If you have the remote, it works okay. All in all, this could have been a great frame, and if you get it for 60 bucks or so, you might be happy with a modern looking digital frame, but if you're paying the full price and looking for a WiFi solution, I'd shop for something else.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very so-so for displaying on-line images, April 23, 2011

This review is from: Toshiba DMF82XWU Wireless 8-Inch Digital Media Frame (White) (Electronics)
We have had this frame for about 6 months. We were planning to use the frame to display pictures that are uploaded to my Picasa account. If that is what you are looking to do, this not the frame for you. The network setup and online setup are fairly simple and straightforward. The network functions operate in a unpredictable manner. Sometimes it disconnects itself from the WiFi network for no apparent reason. Reconnecting may require re-entering network password, but not always; sometimes just restarting the frame will solve that issue. The bigger annoyance is that the frame does not display all of the pictures in my Picasa account. It seemed to randomly pick an album to display and then would only cycle through those. If I uploaded new pictures to Picasa, the frame would usually pick those up and display them but then it would not display the older ones. Recently the frame will no longer connect to Picasa. It will connect to Frame Channel so the online functions work. My guess is that something changed with how Picasa handles connections from devices like the frame and as far as I am away Toshiba has not released a firmware update to fix the issue. When trying to connect to Picasa, the message says "unable to connect". Without any other information, it's very difficult to figure out what is going on. I downloaded the user manual but it is no help.

Pros:
Looks great, very sleek styling
Images look great

Cons:
Online features do not work at all or inconsistently

I bought this for my mother who lives in India and sent it as a her Birthday Present. Whenever I upload my kids pictures to framechannel, she can see them immediately. She is very happy with this frame. Before she had to take someone's help to view them in the computer. This frame made her independent and happy to view the pictures all the time without anyone's help. This is great product and works fine for my mother.

I love this frame! I use at work on my desk and have been nothing but pleased with it. The picture quality is wonderful and for the price, it really does have a lot of features. The wireless framechannel connectivity is a huge plus! The interface is great and easy to use also (compared to other digital frames I have used).
