It runs the powerful Windows XP Media Center operating system, which enables you to save TV programming from the built-in TV tuner and save shows to the hard drive or burn to DVD via the dual-layer, multi-format DVD burner. It's powered by Intel's new, groundbreaking processor--the powerful Core Duo T2400--which provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved gaming and multitasking performance and a more efficient power consumption. The dual execution core T2400 has a 1.83 GHz processor speed and 2 MB L2 cache. It also features a wide-screen 17-inch display, two 80 GB hard drives (for a 120 GB total), 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, 54g wireless connectivity, and an integrated TV tuner.

The Basics

• Hard Drive: The G35-AV600 has a unique hard drive array for a notebook--two separate 80 GB (5400 RPM) hard drives for a total storage capacity of 160 GB. They can work together to boost performance, particularly when handling large files, and you can use one as an exclusive media drive for saved TV programming and an MP3 library.
  
• Processor: The intel Core Duo T2400 processor is built with the Mobile Intel 945PM Express chipset, and it has a 1.83 GHz processor speed, super-fast 667 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and large 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

  The Intel Core Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the next version of Microsoft Windows, code-named Vista. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. It's more efficient, thanks to Intel's Power Coordination and Deeper Sleep, which help to transfer power only to those areas of the processor that need it. It also features Intel's Digital Media Boost, which delivers enhanced performance on floating point-intensive applications such as CAD tools, 3D and 2D modeling, video editing, digital music, digital photography and gaming.
  

• Memory: The 1 GB of built-in memory (PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM, 2 x 512 MB) is a very good start for power users, and it offers a top-of-class 533 MHz speed. • CD/DVD Drive: The double-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer DVD+R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection. A/V Features
The G35-AV600 includes the world's first 1-bit digital amplifier in a notebook PC--usually found in high-end audio systems. The Dolby Home Theater audio processing delivers a richer, more engaging surround sound experience from stereo and multichannel audio sources through headphone, built-in Harman Kardon bass reflex stereo speakers, or external 5.1-channel speaker systems. With the QosmioPlayer software, you can use the G35-AV600 like a stand-alone TV, stereo or DVD player, accessing those functions with a quick touch of a button on the laptop without booting up the Windows operating system. The TV tuner offers standard NTSC definition (720 x 480), closed captioning, parental controls, a 3D Y/C comb filter, and digital noise reduction.

Screen, Graphics and Sound
The G35-AV600 has a 17-inch XGA display with a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio, making it perfect for viewing widescreen format movies. It also provides TruBrite technology, which makes images brighter and more vivid thanks to its anti-glare feature and 480 cd/m2 brightness rating when plugged into the AC adapter (220 cd/m2 rating when in battery mode). It also offers a 700:1 contrast ratio and has 140-degree horizontal and 120-degree vertical viewing angles.

Video and graphics are powered by Nvidia's midrange GeForce Go 7300 GPU with 256 MB of dedicated memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. It also has an integrated audio card that provides 16-bit stereo sound, a built-in microphone, and a volume control dial.

Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. Additionally, it enables you to control your television with the included remote and record and pause programs (much like a DVR--or digital video recorder--such as Tivo or ReplayTV). It's compatible with cable, digital cable, satellite TV and antenna inputs, and it includes an FM tuner. I love this computer - the screen is amazing (perfect for watching and editing movies or working with photos), the keyboard is comfortable (the keys make a little clicking noise that is quite pleasant), and the speakers are outstanding. The speed is great and the software package is decent (it wasn't terribly difficult to get rid of all that junk that comes bundled with it) but seems a bit stingy for the price of the machine. Be warned: this is certainly not a "laptop" - this thing is HUGE and quite heavy (but not that hot).

Great computer for entertainment and work purposes. I'm not a computer geek and may lack the technical language to explain the following but I found it easy to operator. The keyboard has short cut buttons for tv,dvd,cd etc.. The built in speakers are loud and clear, the screen is vivid and the colors pop! The minus 1 star comes from the dual mouse pad is a little too sensitive and would freeze if your finger touched more than one command. (only for a moment),the volume control dial response is a little slow and the obvious..it's a little HEAVY!(10 lbs)and awkward to balance on your lap.

There are times the Internet wireless connection is lost and must be reconnected. There are also times when web-pages freeze up. Once I minimize the page, then pull it back up it usually unfreezes. I don't know why this occurs. The price is dropping so keep an eye on this one. I paid $1699 but have seen it offered for as low as $1499 at Circuit City. I know everyone claims the duo-processor is 40% faster but I can't see a difference between my old P-4 2.4 and this new duo core. The picture is nice and the sound is surprisingly of good quality for a notebook. The other reviewer was accurate regarding getting rid of the free programs that only work for 3 months. McAfee imperticular badgered the heck out of me regarding their soon to expire anti-virus program. I [...]
