Basically, you download the free version of EaseUS's migration and backup software, and the rest is easy.

This is a great SSD, got the 256GB for a song here on Amazon, in comparison to the price of other drives. I see the price has gone back up, but do grab the deals when you see them. It is faster than my previous Corsair 120GB drive, as seen by the almost instant boot into Windows 8 (I see the Windows 8 boot screen flash up and then I am on the Start screen in the next instant). I say I gained about 5-6 seconds on the boot (I know, not much, but still a gain), but that really wasn't my reason for upgrading. It was to gain twice the amount of space that I previously had, as the other drive was filling up.

Migrating my data over was easy - If you search for "Migrate SSD drive" in a Google search, you will then find a page on Lifehacker that describes the whole process. Basically, you download the free version of EaseUS's migration and backup software, and the rest is easy. Do make sure to click the "Optimize for SSD" options when setting up the migration, so that the sectors are aligned properly. This is especially important when coming from a non-SSD hard drive. I did have to re-activate Windows 8, but besides that it was easy.

I recommend the drive. Quality is there and is comparable to other offerings in this price range and size.

Cheap,fast, reliable so far.
Writing this review on a Windows Server 2012 box that runs perfectly
I have the cheapy 128 gb model which i use for the OS then then RAIDed 2TB old school HDs for the mass storage.
I like the metal case all around it.
Cons? you can find kits out there with mounting brackets, software and SATA to usb adapter for around the same price. Check out microcenter.

I've been on the fence about buying one of these for a while, but a couple days ago my old 7200 rpm drive died and I was forced to get a replacement. I really didn't want to spend over $100 but I weighed it out and this seemed like a better choice than replacing yet another worn out hard drive in a couple of years.

So far it has been even better than expected. It is a very tangible upgrade, unlike adding a processor or ram where you don't really see the benefits until rending time or when you have a ton of heavy stuff open in a bunch of programs, working across all of them and need free memory. With this you feel the added speed and better energy performance right away.

My MBP now boots in 15 seconds.
It goes in and out of sleep instantly.
Illustrator CC: 4 seconds to launch
Photoshop CC: 3 seconds
InDesign CC: 7 seconds.

Battery live has improved by about an hour, it no longer vibrates and it's MUCH cooler. Even after running constantly for hours the aluminum case above and below the drive is cool to the touch,
Time will tell if it's more reliable.. I'm hoping that it since the main source of hard drive failures for me is shock damage in laptops. Every so often, the lid closes and for some reason it doesn't go to sleep and I'm in a hurry and forget to check if it's actually gone to sleep before I stick it in the bag. I had a lenovo with active protection before I got this macbook and never had a hard drive failure with it. The dell before it, no active protection: 3 drives dead. So, hopefully this SSD is more stable

The major downside is that now everything else feels really slow.

I'll definitely get another one of these for my desktop soon.

After purchasing my hybrid Windows 8 machine on Thanksgiving and experiencing six second boot times with the SSD I had the need for speed in my 3rd generation i7 desktop. Bottom line I needed a SSD for my desktop!

My shopping venture showed that the prices could get steep quickly if I hoped to install my whole system on the drive with 512GB of storage. I had settled on buying a 256GB and loading my files to a HDD. Then somehow, when reading an excellent review at PCWorld on Toshiba SSD's (Toshiba invented NAND memory that is used in SSD'S) I clicked on a link that popped me over to Amazon. To my surprise I found this drive listed for $139 for the 512GB with only one available. I started typing my order as fast as my fingers would fly. Luck would have it that I nailed the order.

This is my first installation of an SSD drive, even though spending decades in IT.

While waiting on the drive I did research on installing the drive for a smooth installation. One note, if you are installing in a desktop make sure you have mounting brackets if your case does not have a 2.5" bay, this drive is packaged as OEM with no frills.

Upon receiving my drive I backed up all my data and gathered all my registration, etc. numbers and started the install. I used my recovery media USB flash drive, and if memory serves, it installed as any standard HDD.

The install went smoothly with no glitches and the machine was up and running in no time. I have been a very happy camper for several weeks now. The fun side is how fast all the installation steps go with the SSD.

In researching I came across plenty of info that was dated. If you are running a fairly new computer (my desktop is almost a year old) you should be able to pop the unit in and go.
