This review is from: Toshiba Libretto U105 7.2" Laptop (Intel Pentium M Processor, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive) (Personal Computers)
This notebook is definitely for those people, who wants an extra-mobile device with the power of the laptop. U105 fills pretty nice on one hand while being typed by other hand.

The keyboard is small and somewhat awkward. For example the ` key locates directly to the left of space key where alt should be, and alt key is next to the left. However PC Magazine keyboard remap utility can fix it all. It is not that easy to type and typing speed is much slower then on the full size keyboard. Also keys don't have any space between at all, so it makes it even harder to blind-typing. However after the little practice it goes better.

The laptop is pretty fast and what I like, comes from suspend and from hibernation much faster then my other Gateway laptop. There are bunch of junk software, so at the beginning add/remove applet in the control pannel is your best friend! AOL does not want to be uninstalled from add/remove programs, it just says: "No AOL installed on your computer", so, if you don't need it just delete from "program files", from start menu and from desktop.

I hope, you did not believe Toshiba regarding 5 ours of the battery life. It is no more then 4 hours. I have tried to disable everything possibly: wireless, bluetooth, no usb, pcmcia and other connections, screen backlight off and minimum CPU speed, it still 4 ours. So I actually not sure, how Toshiba came up with 5 ours number!

The internal speakers volume is very low, it is softer then my Nokia celphone, but again it is travel laptop.

U105 is very quiet, even when fen goes up. Fen picks up once in a while and the bottem of laptop becomes pretty warm.

And last thing, the users guide does not exactly matches the machine's configuration. For example the manual says that keyboard has 1 control key, there are actually 2 ctrl keys, so believe youreyes, not the manual!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Cool - Meets the Need - Too Much Software, February 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba Libretto U105 7.2" Laptop (Intel Pentium M Processor, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive) (Personal Computers)
I did all the reasarch I could and found this to be the best of the mini notebook breed for the price. Its like the designers took a thinkpad and shrunk it. Fear not the 7" screen. The software allows you to Zoom in anytime by hitting FN + Spacebar. The fingerprint recognition is cool but the software took some getting use to. I'd advise reformating the HD and reloading XP or at least systematically removing some of the junk programs it comes loaded with to speed up the startup . Upgrade to 1Gig RAM helps also. The keys do take some getting use to and theres always a foldup usb keyboard for those with big fingeres. Bluetooth allows you to use a cell phone in a pinch to connect to the net as well as for peripherals like mouse and keyboard. For the money it is the prefect solution for the traveler who wants to stay in touch. For me it was worth the bucks.. Sure as heck beats a blackberry !

It is exactly what I wanted for traveling, It is a powerful laptop, the compromise between size and weight etc for me is well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing machine, February 2, 2006
This review is from: Toshiba Libretto U105 7.2" Laptop (Intel Pentium M Processor, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive) (Personal Computers)
It is more than I expected. The power, beauty, clear screen, and features - I have had it a week and it is has become like my good friend. Yes the keyboard is small but it is a small computer. The keyboard is fine for small jobs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little computer!, August 14, 2007

Toshiba's always done it up right, and this is no different! Only issue I've found with it is sometimes people with not so great eyesight have got to literally use a magnifying glass on this one. Enlarging the text through other means tends to cause blurring that can give you a headache... however, for small and portable, this baby rocks.
