Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Great for the bedroom, dorm, kitchen, or office, the 14-inch MD14FN1 delivers the quality of DVD and the convenience of a combo unit, all with Toshiba's classy silver exterior and well-designed core. Front-panel audio/video inputs accommodate hookups of a camcorder or gaming console, while a front-panel headphone jack grants listening privacy. A key on the included remote control switches between the TV and the front inputs when a gaming device is connected.

The MD14FN1's FST PURE Flat picture tube widens viewing angles and enhances picture linearity relative to traditional tube designs, delivering accurate, life-like images. The set offers stereo sound through two front-firing, side-mounted speakers. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to an audio/video receiver.

Other DVD features include picture zoom, video CD playback, and a parental lock that secures a disc in the tray through a user-selectable onscreen code. This is perfect for securing retail demonstrations, as well as for keeping children from removing--or inserting--a specific music or movie title.

Auto channel memory simplifies TV setup. Have the set turn off after a preset duration when viewing in the evening using the built-in sleep timer, and block violent or sexually explicit programming using V-Chip.

What's in the Box
TV/DVD combo, an illuminated remote control, remote batteries, AC power cord, and a user's manual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional quality for an all-in-one unit, December 1, 2003

I purchased this last month, and for those who are looking for a compact all in one DVD/TV, this is a fantastic deal for the money. It has a slick design, easy to operate, front controls, a simple remote control, and fantastic picture quality -- all in a pure-flat TV. I would highly recommend this unit if you're looking for a bedroom TV, don't want a separate TV and DVD, and want a compact, well designed unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the picture quality, January 2, 2004

I'm so impressed with this tv. I had a 13-inch Sylvania which had tinny sound and poor quality image--I didn't realize how poor until I purchased this unit.

This was shipped UPS and the packaging was quite adequate and it was easy to get the tv out. Super easy setup; within seconds I had a great picture and sound. The outisde is very sleek. Speakers run on both sides of the screen from top to bottom.

My only complaint is with the remote--they printed some buttons with a hard-to-read-for-old-eyes color so it was hard to figure out the function. However, the instructions were easy to consult and overall the remote is easy to use.

I highly recommend this to someone who needs a small unit but doesn't want to sacrifice picture and sound quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars THE DIFFICULT REMOTE RUINS IT, May 22, 2004

This review is from: Toshiba MD14FN1 14-Inch Flat Screen TV-DVD Combo (Electronics)
To me, picture and audio quality are expected commodities on new standard televisions. It is only the remote that makes the difference. The Toshiba MD14FN1 remote is as difficult to operate as the Japanese language is to read.

1) TV functions are secondary and written in an indecipherable watery-orange ink. Difficult! 2) Essential TV functions are crammed together. A total of 27 buttons reside on an area less than 2 x 2 inches. The mute key is lost 4 down and 4 over, while an arcane "input/select" is directly under the large power button. Difficult! 3) The Numeric keypad is an after-thought, located 2 down under a quizzically prominent information key. Further, once you find the pad there is no raised #5-key to center your fingers within the 1 x 1 allotted inches. Difficult! 4) AAA batteries? This is the only product in my house that requires them. Difficult!

If you can't use the remote why buy the product?
