4.0 out of 5 stars Has it all!
This unit has it all... DVD/VHS/Flat screen 20" TV, perfect for a bedroom. Picture is great, the VCR is extremely quiet and because it is integrated you don't lose quality in plugging your cable connector into a VCR and then separately feeding the VCR to TV. It has a lovely display outwardly and clean presentation in a room (less cords and cables). I have it waking me up...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK if you like yellow facial skin
This TV has many great qualities, but all types of facial skin have a yellowish color, like they have on yellow blush. Also the VCR records poorly. When the recorded program is played back, the picture is extremely poor. The DVD works great. The sound is acceptable. I'm going to return my Toshiba. I hope they all aren't like this.

I have it waking me up each morning M-Fri and turning off when I should be walking out the door. It's fun.

The 4 rating instead of 5 is due to the following: The remote control is poorly designed with very small and unnaturally located channel and volume buttons when usually these are the most prominent things on a remote. Likewise, the DVD menu navigation buttons are even smaller and tough to maneuver. I suggest buying a universal remote (make sure it has DVD capability). Also docked for inability to record one show and watch another simultaneously, but this is a fundamental, I'm sure, to integrated TV/VCRs, and if you have a cable box with a different television you couldn't anyway. One other thing, when you change the channel the "stereo" display reference to sound setting is really low on the screen.

I recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, three in one, for the $$$ spent!!, July 21, 2002

I bought this set to replace a JVC unit that I did not like the color or sound on. We have been pleased with the flat screen picture tube which has less distortion on the sides than other tubes and the sound and color are great. You can make fine adjustments via the menu driven controls on the remote. The VCR and DVD units are also easy to use and high quality to view. Everything is easy to control via just one remote. I would buy another one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful picture-problem with VCR, November 17, 2002
By A Customer
This set really has a vivid robust looking picture and I thought I had purchased the perfect TV/DVD/VCR at a reasonable price until a tape got stuck in the unit. It's going back to the store for an exchange, but you can bet that I will be getting the same model again 'cause this is one nice looking TV. All you have to do is plug it in and you're ready to go-no more tangled cables and multiple remotes-everything you need is built right into this one unit. Also, the DVD section worked fine, and does not pixelate at all unlike some other DVD players I have tried.

4.0 out of 5 stars Damaged Twice in Shipping - But Great TV, November 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba MW20FM1 20-Inch Pure Flat Screen TV-DVD-VCR Combo (Electronics)
I've compared this TV-DVD-VCR combo with others from Panasonic and Sharp in retail stores, and found this unit to be by far the best value based on price and picture quality. There's only one problem . . . Amazon.com has not figured out how to ship this item. The first one I ordered was damaged in shipping (the tv is packaged in very thin styrofoam and it appears that the slightest mishandling of the box could cause damage to the tv's corners or facade), and Amazon.com's helpful customer service quickly sent me a second one. The second one suffered from the same damage. Alas, I'll have to pay more money to buy one at my local retailer, since I don't want to risk receiving another defective one and Amazon.com doesn't want to risk this either. Let's hope Amazon.com figures out how to ship merchandise that isn't packaged by the manufacturer for individual commercial shipping.

The TV is great, awesome picture, great sound, but dvd menu buttons on my remote have never worked. Toshiba promised to replace the remote almost 2 and a half months ago, and the remote is still on backorder, so I am not allowed to navigate dvd menus, I can only watch the movie without extra features

4.0 out of 5 stars Great TV/VCR/DVD Combo-bad remote-horrid packaging shipping, November 25, 2002
This review is from: Toshiba MW20FM1 20-Inch Pure Flat Screen TV-DVD-VCR Combo (Electronics)
I agree with the other reviewers that the remote lacks ... everything. Packaging and shipping are obviously a problem. BUT, the Set is Great! I have never had an easier time setting up a system before! I have a satellite receiver and a stereo system and the Toshiba was a cinch to hookup! I took out my old tv,vcr, and cd player (bound for the donation desk somewhere)put the Toshiba in their place and only made a very few connections and I had Satellite TV, VCR, DVD and Stereo all rocking and rolling together! Folks, this only took a very few minutes and the pictures, sounds are FANTASTIC and I didn't need to read the directions until after I was finished installing the system! I only looked at the directions long enough to determine that the remote "had to go" and the only real time spent on this project was to reprogram my old remote to work with the Toshiba, and it works great!... This set, its price, quality and versatility cannot be beat anywhere....

5.0 out of 5 stars Third time the charm thanks to Amazon Cust Serv, October 7, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba MW20FM1 20-Inch Pure Flat Screen TV-DVD-VCR Combo (Electronics)
This is a great item for a guest bedroom or anyplace -- like a very small apartment - where versatility would be overruled by space limitations. Overall, the sound, picture and functions make it a very good value for the price. True, the VCR recording quality isn't as good as a unit with 4 flying erase heads would be, but c'mon! -- for the price of a VCR like that you're getting a TV and a DVD player as well. I'd also like to opine that the remote is not as bad as some reviews would lead you to believe (and BTW my hands aren't small).

My review title refers to the fact that due to the carelessness of the delivery guys in our area, I had to return damaged units of this TV TWICE. Even the third one arrived damaged, but not as bad as the others -- and by then I was willing to accept a cosmetically imperfect unit as my fate. (Plus the first ep of BtVS was in 2 days! We needed a TV!)

The Customer Service folks at Amazon were very understanding and accommodating & so the five-stars are equally and especially for the folks in Electronics!! Thank you Vicki!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear vibrant picture-a cinch to use, November 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba MW20FM1 20-Inch Pure Flat Screen TV-DVD-VCR Combo (Electronics)
If you're looking for a high quality easy to use TV/DVD/VCR solution for a bedroom look no further. This Toshiba is easy to set up and even simpler to use. It has a great picture. Plus it has a really neat data transfer meter that gauges the DVD output. Pay no attention to the complaints about the remote. If you can't navigate around the remote you probably won't be able to follow the movie anyway. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Features / Poor User Interface, October 9, 2002

This review is from: Toshiba MW20FM1 20-Inch Pure Flat Screen TV-DVD-VCR Combo (Electronics)
This is a great TV with great features. The only drawback is poor user-interface design.

I've seen more intuitive, easy-to-read and just plain BETTER on-screen menus on TV's from 10 years ago!

On the set itself all the control buttons are small, and look-alike. Each time I approach set I need to "figure-it-out" again. This isn't a problem for people who are tech-minded and can and undestand standard TV/VCR symbols. Toshiba is really showing their lack of polish and refinement by rushing this set to market in such a utilitarian configuration.

The remote control suffers from the same deficits. Most of the buttons look and are shaped the same way making it non-intuitive. Even more troubling is the way buttons are shared between the VCR and DVD functionality. To distinguish, there are two sets of colored labels. It's very hard to determine if the label is meant for the button above or the button below.

Lastly, I could find no-way to program the remote control to change channels on my Cable-box. I bought this TV/CD/DVD combo to SIMPLIFY things somewhat. With all the people these days with Cable, it's really annoying that you *STILL* need two remotes to work with this TV if you use a cable box.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific all-in-one unit, July 13, 2002
This is an excellent TV with built in VCR and DVD. It is a snap to set up and both the VCR and DVD work well in play back mode. The sound system is very good. This is a great alternative if you want a good quality yet compact system that is easy to use. I feel the price is excellent for what you get.
