5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PLAYER AT A GREAT PRICE
Got this player a few days ago and have played about 10 dvds, 5 vcds and 3 mp3 disks. The Toshiba SD2710 performed 99.9% flawlessly with one brief lockup on a cheap foreign vcd that might have had a little dirt on it. It only paused for about 3 seconds and then continued playing. The remote is smaller, but you'll probably like the extremely cool on-screen menu so much...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good, but serious problems
I didn't have any issue with the DVD functionality, and I didn't test the MP3 options. But there were serious problems with it's CD-R compatibility. I had CD-R VCD's that would play fine for an hour or so, then the player would, for lack of a better word, get tired. It would start skipping or wouldn't be able to even get to a specific chapter. It would spin for a...

The remote is smaller, but you'll probably like the extremely cool on-screen menu so much that you won't mind that. This is a fairly new model that is PACKED with great features. I really like the black level picture adjustment (really enhances the picture by making the blacks blacker) and also the setting that allows you to enhance the audio portion of the soundtrack so you don't have to keep turning the tv up & down to hear people talking. I shopped extensively on the web and hit all the major stores and I couldn't find a better player in this price range (mid-100's). If you need an intelligently-designed, easy to use lower-priced player, I would highly recommend the Toshiba SD2710.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great player!, October 4, 2001

I checked out scores of other players and signs kept pointing back to the Toshibas... The SD2700 was high rated, but the SD2710 is slightly newer and also can play MP3's which the 2700 cannot. It's hard to find a better value for an excellent player with compatibility with tons of formats, great output options and easy to use. The price is excellent and Toshiba has a history of strong products. The only downside is the remote has tons of little buttons that you have to look at, you can't just go by feel. Otherwise, buy a 2710 today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy for the price and features., April 7, 2002

This is my second DVD player after buying Pioneer DV 525 around 2 years ago. I was mainly looking for a player which will mainly play MP3s and CDRWs, as my first player already played CDRs. There are some cheap players which do MP3 also but don;t hve good sound quality. This offers best of all worlds with Dolby Digital and DTS output for the best sound, composite video for great resolution, MP3 playback capability for burned music, and awesome price.

I've never had any problem playing any of burned VCDs or CDRs with MP3, although I haven't trued MP3 on CDRWs, but I hve no reason to belive that it'll not work.

If you are looking for a DVD player with most of the latest features and playes MP3 also.. this is the best in low price range and I highly recommend it.

It would spin for a couple minutes not doing anything and then give up. If I turned it off for 30-40 minutes and then tried again it would play fine for another hour. Very frustrating when you are trying to watch a series. If you watch VCD's or CD-R's with MPG compression then I would recommend against buying this player, get a Sony, much better quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality product, October 4, 2001

This is the second dvd player that i have purchased, the first being a sony that did not play cdr's, but did play cdrw's. This toshiba plays both, has DTS out and component outs. From reading many reviews sony's or toshiba's are the way to go, and i have not yet had a problem reading a dvd disc in either. I recommend this player because of its price, its ability to read burnt discs, and is reputation. I havent tried the mp3 capabilities yet because i am waiting for a receiver and speakers.

5.0 out of 5 stars DVD not everything else, December 23, 2001

This review is from: Toshiba SD2710 DVD Player (Electronics)
This DVD has digital audio out as well as component or SVideo out. It is a class machine for playing DVDs. It was created before the big jump in CDRs and MP3 files. It was not meant to play back that material. It was meant to give the finest possible playback on DVDs. The Matrix is a fine test DVD. If a player handles that fine, then it should handle anything. This player was wonderful on the Matrix. In fact, after viewing some 300 DVDs I can say I've never NEVER had a problem with it. The best value for your dollar.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first DVD player, October 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD2710 DVD Player (Electronics)
I love this DVD player. Easy to set up. Remote is easy to operate and it plays my mp3's.
I worried about how I was going to hook it up to my 15 year old TV, but it plugged right into the VCR (which is hooked up to the amplifier/receiver) so we have good sound. This DVD is exactly what I wanted. I just love it.

I will not be buying an HD TV anytime soon...so there were some features I just didn't need. I have had it a little over a month now and this unit performs perfectly with everything I have tried...and the price was right. It is hooked through an Optimus Receiver to a Zenith TV, I have recorded from an audio CD to a cassette tape (JVC Cassette deck) with great results. The picture is terrific, the sound is excellent, and it has played audio CD's and CD-R's with no problem. I've haven't tried the MP3 or CD-RW in it yet, but suspect there will be no problems. No problems with New, Used or Rented DVD's. The remote has features I probably won't ever use and the basic stuff is easy to figure out (I'm not a big manual reader.) The hook-up was a snap (I just had to remember to switch the TV to Video1 source instead of Ant/Cable.) Nothing to it. This is a great unit for the price, I think you will be pleased with its performance.

This is a great DVD player. It has everything you want (even comes with DTS and MP3) at a price you can't beat. I'm sooo glad I bought this player. It's easy to set up and easy to use. A great first DVD player for anyone who is thinking of getting a DVD player. I wouldn't use it on my HDTV, home theater, but if you just want something simple that looks great, this is the one. Haven't had any problems with it, what can I say I love it. It was cool.

4.0 out of 5 stars DVD, October 1, 2001
This review is from: Toshiba SD2710 DVD Player (Electronics)
I had never purchased a Toshiba product before and I would now certainly buy one again. My only complaint is that I bought this one from a store and paid $60 more than the price here on Amazon!. The player was difficult to learn how to use at first as the instruction manual was not very clear but once mastered it was plain sailing. My only complaint would be that the region no. is hard to change. A quality product that is easy on the pocket!
