4.0 out of 5 stars Flexible Cable Modem
I am currently using a PCX2200 to connnect to my RoadRunner service. The Modem has been working without any problems. It has connections for USB and RJ45. The power supply cable has the transfomer in the middle of the cable which makes it easy to plug into an outlet strip unlike some that have the plug built into the transformer and hog space. I am using it with a D-link...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not long lasting
I got this together with my Cox Connection in June 2002. Initially it worked great . Like all I was thrilled because of the high speed internet. But it does not long last. First you start getting drops at times and then more frequently. The life I would say is about 1 to 1.5 years without any drop. Then you need to switch

4.0 out of 5 stars Flexible Cable Modem, July 19, 2002

This review is from: Toshiba PCX2200 DOCSIS 1.1 Cable Modem with USB Cable (Personal Computers)
I am using it with a D-link DI-604 router to share my high speed access with two computers. Overall have had no problems and reliable broadband service with it.

Update - I have been using this modem in my basement since March. The temp in the basement runs around 65 in the winter and spring. Recently it has gotten up to 78 degrees in the basement and my Roadrunner service was slowing and sometimes stopping all together. Finally realized that the modem was hot. If I took a file folder and fanned it for 30 seconds to cool it down my service would be back up until the modem got hot again. Looked at documentation on Toshiba web site and they have many warnings about keeping this unit cool and well ventilated. Called Time Warner for replacement and they gave me a new one that is now working fine. The one I had before had something spilled on it when they installed it and that may be what contributed to its heat failure. Keep it cool!!!!!

A few months ago I decided to switch from a dial-up internet service provider with a 56K modem to cable internet service with the a cable modem. The cable modem service has several advantages: (1) I don't have to dial a number to access it; it's on all the time, (2) It's MUCH faster than a 56K modem, and (3) using my computer via a cable modem doesn't tie up my telephone line. My cable company specifically recommended that I buy a Toshiba cable modem so I bought the new Toshiba Pcx2200. For the several months I've had it, it has performed flawlessly and I am thoroughly satisfied with it. Furthermore, it is quite versatile: it works with both PCs and Macs (I use a Mac) and is compatible with both ethernet and USB interfaces. The low price was a pleasant surprise -- many other cable modems that were not specifically recommended by my cable company were more expensive. I've had a long histrory of satisfaction with Toshiba products and highly recommend this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless, December 3, 2002

I've been a cable internet subscriber for over a year. Back when I first signed up, cable modems were going for $250 or more, so it made sense to rent from the cable company for $x per month.

Not anymore! With this Toshiba cable modem, you get a low price and flawless performance! The specs for throughput on this modem are more than respectable, they've more than doubled the specs of the modem I was renting.

To get the most out of your new cable modem, I highly recommend visiting speedguide.net and downloading one or more of their registry patches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Without Knowing It's There, March 18, 2003

This review is from: Toshiba PCX2200 DOCSIS 1.1 Cable Modem with USB Cable (Personal Computers)
The best comment I can make about this Toshiba PCX2200 is that I ignore it, and it leaves me alone. If you had lived through a couple of years of our life of dealing with the lousy leased modem that our ISP provided, you'd be happy to be able to ignore a modem. This modem just works. We've had it on the job for about two months, and there has not been a single interruption of service. That is a 180 degree turn from our old online experience. The only improvement I would like to see is the addition of an on/off switch. It may not be needed, but there are times when I am doing computer maintenance, that I feel better if there is no connection to the Internet. With this unit I just unplug the cable since there is no switch.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you rent one now, buy this one and save the monthly fee!!, April 29, 2003

I'm a big believer in broadband. But, I am not a fan of the high price. If you want to save a few bucks off of your monthly bill, look to buy this cable modem. TOSHIBA makes excellent products and this cable modem is no exception. The design is half the size of most cable-company-provided rental modems. It's easily hidden behind entertainment centers or in small nooks and crannies of blank space on your shelves. Installation is a snap and I was up and running in five minutes. A CAT 5 cable and easy to follow instructions are provided. Morever, this modem is perfectly compatible with most cable systems, including Charter Communications. In addition, setup to a wireless router was as easy as plugging the CAT 5 cable between the router and modem and rebooting everything. FLAWLESS performance so far and at a very nice price. Based on my costs, I'll recover my investement in the modem in a little over a year. As cable will be most people's best broadband option, I recommend picking up this Toshiba modem for the long term.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, Easy, No Problems - Highly recommend!, November 16, 2002

This review is from: Toshiba PCX2200 DOCSIS 1.1 Cable Modem with USB Cable (Personal Computers)
I bought this modem because my provider recommended it. I bought it because I finally realized I was going to continue to have cable and why pay my provider [X] per month to rent the modem. It has been a couple of months and I have not had any problems - I have several computers running through it - and send and receive large files regularly. Setup was a breeze - easy with no problems at all. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously good stuff, March 7, 2003

I had so much trouble with the Motorola cable modem, that I was beginning to give up on getting back online with the fast speed again. Finally I took the Motorola back and got the Toshiba.

Oh my gosh, its great! I was so relieved. The motorola took literally hours to get working, and then it kept messing up. The techinicians ran around in circles. This IP address was off, then that one was.

I didn't have to worry about any of that with the Toshiba. I couldn't believe how easy it was! I was on the internet in literally 5 minutes. I was so shocked! This is the first time I was able to get on so painlessly and quickly.

If you want a cable modem, go with this one. I haven't found a better one yet. (we use Adelphia cable)

No problems, fast and cheap until exactly 1 year. Then slowly kept dropping more and more until it never could establish the connection. Not a great choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first cable modem, April 20, 2003
This review is from: Toshiba PCX2200 DOCSIS 1.1 Cable Modem with USB Cable (Personal Computers)
I did not buy this off of amazon . com but I did buy it at a local store. This is a nicely made modem. I have used mine for almost a year now and have not yet had a problem. You can connect it with either USB or eithernet connection. for usb you need drivers which are enclosed on a cd. This product is quiet and just sits there and blinks at you. If you wish you can even leave it on all the time like I do. IF you are buying a cablem modem I recoment this product for its looks, its a name brand company. and from what I can tell they are made quite well.
