5.0 out of 5 stars Great Price, Great Pictures.
My number one criteria for a digital camera was clear pictures. My number two was price. I bought the Polaroid PDC 640 Plus from another online store and returned it after a day. The pictures looked horrible. I decided I was going to have to spend more money to get better quality. I decided to look at the electronic stores locally first and you couldn't buy anything...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Camera for the Price
Overall, this camera takes great pictures, with a wide choice of pic sizes and resolutions. The software and USB interface were flawless to setup and easy to use.
I have just a few gripes, despite the low price...
1. There is no lens cover. Even though the recessed lens should be safe from damage, a lens cover would be nice.
2. The flash takes 5 to 8...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba PDR-M21 2MP Digital Camera (Electronics)
My number one criteria for a digital camera was clear pictures. My number two was price. I bought the Polaroid PDC 640 Plus from another online store and returned it after a day. The pictures looked horrible. I decided I was going to have to spend more money to get better quality. I decided to look at the electronic stores locally first and you couldn't buy anything decent for at least [money] and those only came with 8mb of memory max. With Amazon's free 32MB of memory offer, this was an awesome deal. This camera takes excellent quality pictures. I recommend you set it at half-tiff which will give you 22 pics on a 32MB memory card. I might upgrade to a 64MB card eventually, but once I hit 10pics or so I download them to the computer and format the card. On vacation, 22 might not be enough.

Pro's:

1. Quality of pics
2. Price
3. Automatic shut-off timer (saves batteries).
4. Easy to use

Con's:

1. Didn't come with a holder.
2. Pictures take awhile to process.
3. Not all that cool looking.

I won't be returning this one. If you are cheap like me and always looking for a good deal, then go with this camera.

This easy to use camera takes wonderfully sharp photos, and pictures download easily through a USB connection. Software included is also excellent; many easy-to-use utilities. The screen saver of my digital photos is terrific!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little camera, but where's the mac compatibilty?, April 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba PDR-M21 2MP Digital Camera (Electronics)
The PDR-M21 is good camera for the money. I got it to connect to my PC and run fine (although the supplied imaging program, Image Expert, crashed my machine occasionally.) But contrary to Amazon's tech specs, this camera is not Mac compatible. Nothing short of installing a SmartMedia reader would get any pictures from this camera to my Mac. Since I'll be pulling the SmartMedia card out every time I want to upload pictures to my computer, I found that card is placed in a relatively inaccesible position under a door next to the batteries. Other than that, the camera is a great starter camera and I would recommend it to anybody who wants a cheap starter digital camera. (Anybody with a Windows PC, that is)

I have just a few gripes, despite the low price...
1. There is no lens cover. Even though the recessed lens should be safe from damage, a lens cover would be nice.
2. The flash takes 5 to 8 seconds to recharge, even with fresh batteries. This seems excessive to me.
3. The quality of the image on the viewscreen is not great, but use of the viewscreen should be limited anyway, to preserve battery life.
Still, this camera is an excellent choice for the casual picture taker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great camera for general use., May 9, 2002

If you're looking for a camera that is easy to use and takes good pics this is the one. The camera is limited on features, but a 2megapix camera for under 200 bucks is well worth it. It has 8 different compression modes, macro, and other basic effects that are more than enough for general picture taking. The lcd is pretty clear, not the best I've seen, but pretty good. The only bad thing I can say about the camera is that it is a battery hog, I recommend buying rechargeable batteries at least two sets "Trust me on this one". The software that came with the camera is "ok" it works but if you need more you might as well buy a camera that requires more. All in all this camera will do the job and you won't be dissapointed

4.0 out of 5 stars an ok product, April 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba PDR-M21 2MP Digital Camera (Electronics)
camera seems to work ok. pluses are:
the software loaded easily and dumping to pc goes well.--but there are no directions as to how to use it the photo album.
pictures seem to be clear and crisp.
the camera manual is typical Toshiba. The binding covers the page numbers in the table of contents. You have to carry a thick manual because of the languages, I think I'll cut mine for the English only.
The instructions on deleting pictures stink. Deleting pictures works the opposite of the manual. I had to call Toshiba help to find that out.
If the camera surface was not so smooth, it would be easier to grip and one would be less liklely to drop it.
Much easier on batteries than I had feared.
All-in-all a nice product, but should be easier to use for the first time digital user.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very nice camera, great photos but a couple of cautions, June 9, 2002

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba PDR-M21 2MP Digital Camera (Electronics)
The Toshiba PDR-M21 is a great way to jump into digital photography at a decent resolution, without spending a boatload of money. Amazon's free memory card offer at the time of my purchase was also a plus.

The camera is easy to learn, with good ducumentation. The photos are bright and detailed. The transfer software works fine with my 5 year-old photo editing program.

What surprises me is that there is no lens cap or cover (what was Toshiba thinking?) and that darned function knob is way too easy to move with normal handling of the camera.

If you think you can live with these two items, the PDR-M21 is worth a look. With the money you'll save, you can get a decent camera case to protect the lens & extra batteries as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars PDR-M21 is SO EASY, my friends loe it too, December 2, 2001

We love to use this camera because it does exactly what we want a digital camera to do. It takes great pictures. Sometimes we all get together for a group shot, I can ask someone else to take the picture of us without ten minutes of explanation - just look at us in the window and press the button. Our pictures come out good every time.

People are always asking about my camera because it looks to cool!

If you need a great camera for minimum dollars, this is the one. My young son (12 year old even set this one up) is tough on gear and this is the unit for him. Great quality and VERY easy to use.
