If I could sum up this review in one word, it would be "WOW!".

This laptop totally rocks, from the second generation i7 processor, 8 gb of RAM, 750 gb hard drive, Blueray writer, and 1080p display, to the great graphics card, generous ports and overall functionality, this would be a pretty good deal as it is. True, you can get something with a top of the line graphics card for around the same price, but you won't get the...

GLASSES FREE 3D! And yes, it is nothing short of amazing. While the sharpness isn't as clear as a big screen 3D tv that requires glasses, the visual effect is just as gratifying. Textures, and especially words, look somewhat blocky due to the nature of the lenticular 3D technique Toshiba uses to free you of the need for glasses. Speaking of techniques, Toshiba uses the webcam to track your head movement so you always get the maximum 3D effect. The short side of this is that only one person can view the 3D content. Also, the screen resolution is changed to 720 p so you lose detail and things, especially type, look blocky and can be difficult to read.

Included is a set of drivers that upconvert 2D content to 3D, so you can watch your regular movies in 3D. The results are somewhat mixed, but it does add some dimensionality to otherwise flat movies and videos.

Did I mention gaming? The graphics card is more than adequate for running the latest DX11 games in high Rez. The kicker is that you will be able to play your games in 3D in a future update from Toshiba, (if the game supports it, and many do). UPDATE... Toshiba has no idea when or even if they will get games working on this machine in 3d, so I really can't recommend this at this time.

This was actually a very beautiful computer. We were very pleased by the way it looked. We do a lot of 3-d, non glasses, photos. In the advertising of this product, it said you could see 3-d stills without glasses. Unfortunately, this was not true.
The computer even had samples on it to show how the photos would look. Their own samples did not work! We called the company and after hours of talking to different employees (who really didn't know anything about this computer) we finally spoke to one of the senior/senior people, who said that this function was not available yet, even though the sample was on the computer. He didn't know when it would be available. I don't know if the movie function works, because that wasn't of interest to us.
We returned the computer.

I was looking for a laptop with an Intel i7 processor, a Full-HD 15" screen, and preferably without Nvidia Optimus (because I use Linux).
Also, I wanted a Toshiba laptop because I have had great experience with Toshiba.
This laptop fit this description, so I bought it, and so far I have been very happy with it.
It's lighting fast compared to my old Core2 Duo laptop, even more so after I installed an SSD.

Running on Linux, everything works fine except for some of the media keys.
On Windows, I have been able to play Skyrim on medium details, using a resolution of 1920x1080 and the HD texture pack without any issues.
I do not care about the 3D feature, so I only used it once, and got an instant headache.

There are some draw backs though, so I am only giving it 4 stars:

1. It's rather heavy, heavier than my old 16" laptop. It's also the same size.
2. The red lid is horrible, in my opinion, I will have to try and get a laptop skin to cover it up.

Also, it seems the battery is broken and it loses its charge even when the laptop is off, so I had to take it in for a check-up.
Toshiba will replace the battery, though, so I can't complain.

I bought this mainly to play 3d blurays without shutter or even anaglyph glasses-miraculously It Works!! The effect is fine, similar to the Nintendo only bigger. This computer has been much maligned-undeservedly so. It's lowest WEI score is 5.9-the hard drive, next lowest is graphics at 6.7. If you replaced the hard drive with an ssd the overall WEI score jumps from 5.9 to 6.7-hardly a weak machine! 6.7 is the best score achievable with the GT 540. I'm not a gamer but I suspect the 3d effect in realtime might be too much strain even for the mighty Sandybridge- the alternate frames at 120 hz. shutter solution takes less power. I wouldn't expect or hold Toshiba to deliver updates for 3d gaming. 2d gaming is fine- depending on the game of course. Overall this is a great machine and can be bought with confidence. At current prices, it's a STEAL!
Still like the laptop as of 1/3/2013 but just want to add that for bluray and 3d bluray playback, just press enter on the keyboard when play or scenes, etc. is highlighted on the screen and use the cursor direction arrows on the keyboard to choose or switch among the options-not obvious in the manual-haven't seen this mentioned in the other reviews. Some titles for example, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast 3D" and "Christmas Carol 3D" will work by mousing and clicking on the highlighted icons. The enter, cursor way works with all titles I've tried. I think much of the manual applies to a previous buggy discontinued player.
