GREAT LAPTOP, May 25, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba Qosmio X500-S1801 - Core i7 720QM / 1.6 GHz - RAM 4 GB - HDD 500 GB - Blu Ray ROM DVD supermulti drive - GF GTS 360M TurboCache - Gigabit Ethernet - WLAN : 802.11b/g/n (draft), Bluetooth 2.1 EDR - Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - 18.4" Widescreen TFT 1680 x 945 TruBrite - camera (Personal Computers)
My previous laptop was a toshiba satellite series and was my first brand new laptop. It is still working after 2+ years but I decided it was time to get something nice so after some time of checking out reviews on various laptops, sony, dell, etc I could not find something that was real nice and powerful and also had good reviews. I was not aware toshiba made a gamer series until I ran into the qosmio series.
I chose this model over the Q870 because it was about the same price ($50 difference) yet had more video ram and windows 7 pro instead of home.
Pros:
I've only had this laptop a month and have not had any issues, I use it pretty much every day.
The screen is nice and bright, I've only tested a few games and they all play fine, huge amount of video mem, nvidia
this thing has lots of plugins so nice for video work, I only dumped a few videos from my camcorder and they processed fast
i program a lot, this thing is fast
visually pleasing
bluray
64bit quad core, weeeeeeeee
4gb ram, same as my old but the video ram is over 1gb = wow
500gb hd
Linux compatible, i setup a secondary partition (100gb) and put ubuntu 10.04 on it and all drivers installed without any hassle, compiz works without a hitch
Cons:
touch pad, get a usb mouse
annoying beep on volume buttons, beep can be disabled in bios
I've repaired and owned close to 500 laptops, mostly used, this is the best I've ever owned.
I've only had 2 brand new laptops.

Good choice for business use, March 20, 2011

Have owned the Toshiba Qosmio X500-S1801 for 2 weeks now and have had no complaints. Beautiful display, flawless performance. I did not buy the 17 inch HP Envy laptop due to reports of heat problems. The Toshiba is large and a bit heavy but I have been very pleased with it!

I LOVE my Qosmio!, July 11, 2011

I am not a gamer or a tech geek, so I cannot pass on any technical information or judgment. I purchased this lap top to replace my old desk top computer and am very satisfied. I use it for a small business and I have no complaints. It has been over a year and it has never crashed, overheated, or done anything wacked out like my standard Dell computers had done before. The speakers are pretty good for a lap top, the camera and video are definitely above average. It's pretty quick and looks decent on my desk. The back lit keys are a nice feature and I love the large screen. I have to say, this is the first computer that I have purchased that I LOVE. However, do not expect to pack it up and bring it to Starbucks. It is a good desk top replacement, but as far as mobility goes, it sucks. It's large, cumbersome and heavy. The battery life is short and it is near impossible to find a proper fitting lap top bag. I will never ever go back to Dell again! I LOVE my Qosmio...
