5.0 out of 5 stars Plasma replacement
I bought this television to replace a 42" Samsung plasma TV that the picture went out on after less than two years. Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

After looking for a good deal on a 46 or 47 inch LCD, I found this for about $1100.00 including shipping. I bought this television to replace a 42" Samsung plasma TV that the picture went out on after less than two years. I didn't have the extended warranty, and was told it would cost approximately $600-$1000 to repair. After talking to my local dealer, who sells Toshibas, he convinced me to go with the Toshiba brand. As everyone knows the screens for all plasmas and LCD's are made in only a couple of factories. The dealer told me that the screens are graded either number 1,2, or 3. He told me that Sony and Toshiba are the only manufacturers to use only number 1 graded screens, reducing the chance for dead pixels and other flaws. He also told me that Sony and Toshiba still manufacture their sets in Japan, not China. This dealer told me that since a lot of people bring their TV sets in for repair,he has seen a major reliability problem with the big-screen televisions from other manufacturers. He said he has been selling Toshiba for several years now, and claims that not a single Toshiba has been brought back into him for repair. So with this information, I decided to go with the Toshiba brand. Also, with a lesson hard learned,I bought the extended warranty on my new Toshiba. The big-screen televisions are too expensive to replace every couple of years, and the extended warranty is an insurance policy against such re-occurring major expenses. Now as far as the television goes, at the time I bought my plasma TV, plasma televisions were much brighter and sharper than the LCD models, but things have changed. The picture on my Toshiba LCD is excellent. And as far as brightness goes the new LCDs are brighter than the old plasmas. Also if you are trying to decide between a plasma and a LCD,you may have read somewhere about the screen coatings on the plasmas that cause reflections, this is definitely true. On my plasma, if there was any light at all coming in to the windows in front of the television, the picture was difficult to see. This is not a problem with my LCD. You may also have heard about image burn in on the plasma screens, this also is true. I have a Sony Play Station3 that would leave a static image on the screen and if I left it on for too long, I definitely would notice a ghost image on the screen. Another thing nice with the Toshiba is that all of the rear inputs are to the side of the television and not in the middle. On some televisions with the rear inputs in the center of the television if you try to use a wall mount some of the mount brackets may interfere with the input connections. So in summary I say, buy Toshiba, go with LCD, and get the extended warrenty for peace of mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Buy for HDTV!! No Problems! A+++++++, October 14, 2008

Received the TV a few weeks ago. Amazon delivery was fabulous. They unpacked and set up, even helped take the old stand into another room for me.

Picture is great, easy to understand remote. I set up my Bose Wave radio for speakers and it is a few tads below surround sound. The sound quality of the TV is average to above average. However, since I had the radio I figured I would give it a whirl. I did upgrade to a Monster Cable. I am not really sure it was worth the extra cost. I am electronically challenged and hate change and I do not have any problems understanding this set.

I researched the internet for hours doing price comparisons, quality, warranty, etc and found this brand, model and size were the best value for my family and myself. If you are on the fence between two TV's, buy this one!

Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

After looking for a good deal on a 46 or 47 inch LCD, I found this for about $1100.00 including shipping. I took a look at the screen at my local Best Buy, which had it for about $1600.00 plus tax and shipping, and I was sold. I bought it home and immediately noticed areas in the screen that were lighter than others. The only time it can be noticed is when the there is black bands at the top and bottom. If the screen is full, the picture is great. I'm going to Toshiba for help on this so we'll see.

The other major problem I have, and I think it's a Comcast issue and not one with the TV, is the audio blanks out for a second every few minutes or so on analog channels. HD, DVD and game works fine. After researching, I found many folks have the same issue with HDMI and cable, even though theirs is usually on HD channels. Anyway, it's the best deal I could find for the money and about worth what I paid. I'll probably go with Sony or Samsung when I'm ready to step it up.

I love this TV. No problem at all with the free shipping. Extraordinary picture. Don't settle for anything less than 1080i.

1.0 out of 5 stars Panel failed after 2 year! Fell substantially short of my expectations, June 29, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
COntaced Toshiba, they have me hire a repair person to diagnose. Repair guy says this model uses an LG Panel, which has a known failure. Tells me LG has been standing behind their TVs, but doubts Toshiba will do anything. Said you'll probably be buying a new TV.

Toshiba couldn't care less that I paid good money for a TV to only get 2 years out of it! I told them I expect more than 2 years, and other manufactures say a tv life is about 8 years- or so the national average is. Unfortunately I'm on the wrong side of that bell curve.

I'll never buy another Toshiba TV because of how they handles my call. They made a new panel avalable to my repair person at a cost of $2,220, which I still would have to pay that plus labor! I paid $1800 for the whole TV! Get real Toshiba...

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective Panel, backordered, over a month wait time expected, March 18, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
The panel started going bad at around six months, and I opened a warranty support ticket. The problems started out with a brief flicker after the panel was powered on, and eventually degraded into a ghost image with horizontal bars, and finally one half of the panel started failing to refresh at all. Since doing contacting warranty support, the panel has completely failed and now is unusable. Unfortunately the replacement panel is on back order, so I won't have a working television screen for at least a month. This is a pretty big disappointment, since not only has Toshiba's hardware failed, but their support process has failed as well. Definitely my last Toshiba purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE...., June 2, 2009

I have had this television for a total of 20 months...and now it is worthless. The video panel suddenly went bad. A Toshiba certified repairman (after driving 2 hours) diagnosed the problem and reported $2700 for just a new panel, no labor or shipping included in that price. I regrettably didn't purchase an extended warranty so I am completely screwed. Toshiba customer support was rude and unempathetic to the point where I will never invest in anything "Toshiba." Just thought sharing my horror story may save someone else the heartache.....

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS POS!!!!!!!, November 18, 2011
This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
This TV will most likely fail after 2 years of use, if you think 1000 for 2 years of a mediocre Television is a wise investment then go right ahead. Toshiba CUstomer service is even worse than the product. Will NEVER buy TOshiba again.

1.0 out of 5 stars lcd screen failed after 31/2 years, August 4, 2011
This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this tv as a present for my wife the christmas of 2007. I loved this tv until the picture failed completely in June of 2011. The picture was very good. There were however, from day one, colored lines that ran vertically through the picture when the tv was first turned on. They would go away after 20 minutes or so. I wish I would have brought it back when I noticed these lines. I have another lcd tv, a Samsung, that works fine still after eight years. It will cost me 1300.00 to fix my Toshiba. I can buy a new one for less. I will not repair this tv. I am very sad and disappointed. I will not buy another Toshiba tv. Everyone said how good Toshiba tvs were when I bought this tv. They don't last!!! I can't afford to replace a tv every three years. Please don't buy a Toshiba!
