I've had my 52rv535u for about a month. Overall I'm
disappointed.

On the plus side...

- high definition picture is great
- the remote is very user friendly, easy to use
- it's one nice looking set

On the minus side...

- use of the SRT feature seems to make little if any difference
- sound...

I know 120Hz would make this TV great but at the price I bought it is a deal! surface reflection is minor in bright rooms much better than Samsung and Sharp but not as good as Sony. Watt consumption is ~ 240 at normal setting like a old 25-27" CRT TV. start-up much slower than Sony ~ 10 sec

5.0 out of 5 stars LOW PRICE + EXCELLENT PRODUCT = GREAT VALUE, March 2, 2009

This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 52RV535U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I did many hours of reseach before I ordered this TV last week for $1199 from Amazon. I could not be more pleased. The picture is outstanding, and the overall product meets or exceeds any reasonable expectations.

You would be hard pressed to find a 52", 60Hz, entry level LCD by Samsung, Sharp, LG, or Sony for under $1500 and when you do it is because they are reducing the price just before they introduce their new models.

CEVA delivery was great and only three days.

The speakers sound very good for a TV, and at double the price you may find some sets that sound somewhat better. If you want great sound take some of the money you saved on this set and buy a sound/AV system. If you shop smart you can find a system for as little as $300 that will significantly improve your viewing experience or you can spend BIG BUCKS for a weapon of mass destruction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best value, hands down., March 1, 2009
This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 52RV535U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
This model is nearly identical to Toshiba's most premium LCD TV (the 545). The only major feature it lacks is the 120 Hz screen, so at this price this is a steal, especially when you compare it to the other 52" TVs from the other major brands.

This thing has lots of connections, including 4 HDMI (three in the back). Lots of picture settings, great color, gorgeous good blacks. The overall look of the TV is very sleek and stylish.

In this economy you can't beat this deal!

For 15 years I have been buying Toshiba TV's, and let me tell you they are way underestimated in there performance! I went from a 19, 56, 42, and now a 52 lcd. If you are on the fence about this toshiba just buy it the performance is right there if not better then those more popular brand. The new features on this tv even blew me away when I plugin my hd recever into it. My dvd player is even upconverted when using it thanks to Toshiba's new SRT technology now I don't even gotta buy an upconvert dvd player. For 1199.99 this tv is a steal msrp(2199.99) WOW! Also the new double skin on the frame just makes it look amazing. And as for those reviews that put this tv down. I just don't understand maybe by doing that they feel better about buying those expensive popular brands that are 500 too 2000 more then Toshiba. Simply buy this tv and you save alot of money and get a top of the line tv to brag about! THANKS AMAZON !

I've had my 52rv535u for about a month. Overall I'm
disappointed.

On the plus side...

- high definition picture is great
- the remote is very user friendly, easy to use
- it's one nice looking set

On the minus side...

- use of the SRT feature seems to make little if any difference
- sound quality is poor
- sound levels are not equalized when changing channels...i.e. it is necessary to turn volume up or down
- even when using the auto adjusting features the contrast and color require manual adjustment when changing channels

I knew the set was not the top of the line Toshiba, but I expected a better product than I got.

REVIEW UPDATE....25 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THIS SET PICTURE PANEL DIED. THE ONE YEAR WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE COST TO
REPAIR WAS MORE THAN I PAID FOR THE SET.
NOW I MUST PAY A DISPOSAL FEE TO GET RID OF THE SET. PRETTY EXPENSIVE 2 YEAR SET.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall, stunning value and quality for the price. For the budget-minded quality seeker, this Toshiba is truly a steal., March 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 52RV535U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I followed this television model online for some time as it fell into my price range. Of note, I have owned a Toshiba CRT 36-inch now for 15 years, a TV of excellent quality, so I was curious if the Regza 52RV535U LCD was of the same caliber.

My research revealed (i) its 46-inch sibling was rated as "Highly Recommended" by this winter's Consumer Reports "The Best Televisions" edition, and (ii) its 42-inch sibling was also very highly rated by HDTV Solutions web site television reviews at [..]. I recommend this article to anyone who wants to learn more about fine-tuning/picture calibration, and it explains how the Toshiba's picture achieved a 4.5 out of 5 rating. I took a gamble that these positive reviews were true for the whole RV535U series, and purchased the 52".

First, let me point out how professional and thoughtful the folks at the delivery service CEVA were. These gents truly deserve good mention, and had a lot of patience with my building's many delivery rules. They took great care to set up the TV and ensure it worked. I made sure to tip them well for their efforts.

Next, the picture from HD sources is simply stunning. I agree with the HDTV Solutions article that the automatic picture settings are quite good but a bit conservative. Yet they are highly accurate with color and right out of the box I was impressed. After some calibration using the "HD Basics" blu-ray disk, I ended up with a fantastic image set as "Preference" mode. The Blu-ray movies I have watched since have been utterly breath-taking and rival my neighbor's 52-inch Sony Bravia XBR (which admittedly has slightly deeper blacks and minor high-speed motion improvement...for $1800 more than I paid for the Toshiba).

The standard DVDs have also shown exceptionally well, although admittedly my Samsung Blu-ray P1500 upcoverts the DVD signal, so I cannot attest to Toshiba's SRT/Superior Resolution Technology's effectiveness with DVDs, but it appears to do reasonably well with the standard TV programming.

The sound quality is acceptable and I found it to be noticeably better than the Samsung LN52A550 52-Inch that I looked at and considered in late 2008. Still, as with most flat panel televisions I considered, I would recommend using a surround sound system with the Toshiba if you are in a large room or sit far from the speakers.

Of note, the Toshiba Regza link, which is the interface that allows the Toshiba remote to control other applications or hardware, works flawlessly with the Samsung Blu-ray.

Overall, stunning value and quality for the price. I am still amazed at how great Blu-ray movies look on this TV. And many more of my friends are now interested in coming over on Sundays for "Movie & A Bite Night" at my place. For the budget-minded quality seeker, the Toshiba is truly a steal.

This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 52RV535U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I'm happy everyone likes their Regza tv when new, I did too. But after 15 months a board went out and they don't have a replacement now, don't know when they'll have one, if ever. The tv's been in a repair shop for 2 months now. And for customer support? Forget it. They don't have a clue and are useless.

I had done a lot of online research before buying this TV. While there were 52 LCD that were rated higher and I am sure that they may provide a better picture, this was $1200 shipped compared to $1500-$3500. I read that 120 refresh was good but not worth the extra bux. I don't see any blurring during action movies or games. Maybe I have poor vision. The set is nice to look at with the black finish and smaller frame. The frame is smaller due to the fact that the speaker is smaller. The speaker sounded OK but I did not crank it up or use it too much (I use Home Theater)Looks great wall mounted. I like the fact that it has 4 HDMI (3 rear 1 side). I run a HD cable box and a Xbox 360 with future plans for Blu Ray. I plugged a PC in for testing and it looked great. Filled the entire screen. I plan on mounting a HP Thin Client PC on the back for Web Surfing. Another nice feature is when you use HDMI you can back feed the audio out from the TV to your Home Theater receiver. Good if your receiver does not support HDMI. Delivery was quick and on time. They unboxed it and put it on a table. I gave them my cable box HDMI cable to test and looked over the picture for defects, none found. I had my wall mount ready but they do not wall mount due to insurance reasons. My wife and I had no problem hanging it.
One final note. TV tecnology changes so fast that to spend a lot of money only to be outdated in 5-6 years seems pointless to me. This unit replaced a 52 Panasonic that I only could sell for $300 (I paid $1500 in 2004). If you want to lay out $3500 for a 52 inch 120HZ LCD, go for it but in 5 years it will be obsolete and worth $300-$500.
Pros- Cheap, nice to look at, great picture.
Cons-There is no Picture in Picture

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value - Great Set, March 11, 2009

I shopped Toshiba Regza sets extensively and this was by far the best price I found. In fact I got this 52" set for the same price as a 46" at a local members-only club (and even less due to local tax and delivery charges). I'd also like to add that my experience with Amazon and the company they used for shipping, delivery, and set-up was positive.

I have not as yet subscribed to HDTV service from my satellite provider but I am extremely pleased with the picture quality and sound as is. I found the menues easy to learn and use. I appreciate the number of options provided.

I am already recommending the set to friends.

1.0 out of 5 stars LCD Panel Dead after 2.5 Years, July 2, 2011
This review is from: Toshiba REGZA 52RV535U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
After 2.5 years of minimal use the LCD panel died. Too expensive to replace so will have to make another major investment in a new TV at some point. For now, I will be doing a lot of reading.
