Component-video splits the video signal into three separate components, which reduces the amount of signal processing required of your television. Conventional composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. The "expanded" mode in the player's black-level setting produces richer, deeper black tones in every image.
In the audio realm, a set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. The player's internal digital-to-analog converters work at 24-bit, 192 kHz resolution to ensure optimum sonic quality from a range of digital program material. Playback options include picture zoom, dialogue enhancement, QSound 3D Surround Sound (simulated surround for two-channel listening), parental lock, and compatibility with DVD and CD Text features (on encoded discs). The player comes with a full-function remote control.

This review is from: Toshiba SD-2900 DVD Player , Black (Electronics)
I had this DVD player for 6 months when the DVD playing function crapped out. Even before the DVD player failed completely it never sounded like it was operating quite right...the laser tracker made lots of noise and took more than a few seconds searching for the right spot to read on the disc. Had I known the details of the warranty, I would have tried hard to return this product within the first three months. I thought I would be totally covered for at least one year and didn't relish the idea of trying to explain over the phone to a customer service rep a problem that doesn't exactly stop the player from working.
Well, it turns out that parts are covered for 1 year, labor is only covered for 3 months. Bottomline is I have to shell out $59 for a Toshiba repair technician's labor plus shipping costs from LA to Massachuesetts. Apparently, this warranty is the industry standard, so my bad there. I guess the lesson learned is to go with a brand that I trust in terms of reliability...in this case I should have gone with Sony. My Sony TV, camcorder, PSP, digital camera, PS2, and cellphone have never given me problems...that's why I was ignorant of the warranty details, because I've never had to use it before.

After two years of using an Apex DVD, watching a movie on this baby is great. The picture is 10 times better, and the audio is sweet.Another big plus (for me) is that it is very thin and doesn't take up too much space.
