4.0 out of 5 stars Happy to have it!
I did a lot of research before buying, and I'm very happy with my decision. I was going to try to get a PS2, but decided to get this instead (since there was no way I would get the PS2!). 1.0 out of 5 stars Ate first disk, Wouldn't release second
Opened my brand new unit, put in two DVDs, opened the unit to see which DVD was in slot 1; nothing was there! Nothing was in slot 2; eventually took cover off, removed circuit boards and retrieved disk 1, from back corner of machine where the platter had slung it. After repeated efforts pushing buttons, a good five minutes, it disgorged disk 2. Find this...

I did a lot of research before buying, and I'm very happy with my decision. I was going to try to get a PS2, but decided to get this instead (since there was no way I would get the PS2!). The set up is simple, and the playback is great! The audio is incredible, and the features live up to the reputation. I've only had a couple of glitches, like trying to skip tracks and the machine won't respond unless the button is pressed several times. Other than that, most of the little things are fixed by reading the manual and learning the machine. I would recommend this to a friend or family member, it's a great deal, works great playing multiple discs, and has made me want to get a new reciever and speakers which can keep up with it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great first DVD Player, August 6, 2000
This review is from: Toshiba SD-3205 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
I just recieved this player in three days ago from a ebay auction and im completely spoiled! I have already watched 10 movies and im hooked! I have done a lot of research before buying and im glad that I picked this unit. It is my first DVD player and I couldnt be more satisfied. Its easy to use and a cinch to hook up. The component outputs makes a GIANT difference over the S-Video! I dont have any digital audio gear so I couldnt tell you the difference on that part but the video playback is flawless. The remote control is also very nice and intuitive. A bit on the large size for my hands but no problems. Audio CDs really do sound better as well. Im not sure how it can improve them but it does have a brighter more open sound to them than on my all Pioneer set up. Which BTW, the Toshiba blends in nicely with the other gear. The construction is very sturdy with no sign of cheapness. If you are planning on buying a first DVD player, go the extra mile and buy a 5 or 6 disc changer and if you want a no brainer buy, go with Toshiba.

Bad trouble with my Toshiba DVD. Ran for a couple days. Then ate 2 discs, refusing to start. Electronics on it just stopped working. Not at all happy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Give Me Back My Disc!!!, March 2, 2001
This review is from: Toshiba SD-3205 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought, I tried, I returned. I don't think people have stressed enough the fact that removing a disc from this machine can be real frustrating. Why should it be frustrating just to remove a disc from the player? Terrible design flaw from Toshiba. Otherwise, the DVD player seemed excellent. I bought unit to replace a 5-disc CD changer, but I think I will buy a single disc DVD and a new CD changer. This unit was particularly finicky about the type of CD-R's that it would play. Therefore, not a good choice for replacing a CD changer IMHO. I may buy the Toshiba SD2200 because the video, menu system, remote etc... was all fine on the SD3205 player. This unit (and the SD2200) also needs a second set (it has only one) of analog audio outputs - one for TV one for A/V reciever.

Toshiba DVD player SD-3205 is broken only after 5 month use. I bought it in November 2000. The DVD player wouldn't load any DVDs or CDs. It will cost me (labor only) to fix it. The product has one year parts warranties.

5.0 out of 5 stars READ THIS REVIEW!!!!!!!!!, July 7, 2001
This review is from: Toshiba SD-3205 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
O.K. Here it goes.... The player is overall very good. It plays dvd movies, audio cd's, HDCD encoded audio cd's, and VCD's. The owner's manual says it will not play CD-R's but after trying various brands, I found that it will play Memorex brand CD-R's with no problem. The picture through the S-Video connection is great. The sound through the optical connection is the best I've heard. Believe me you will hear a difference when conpaired to analogue. I have watched many movies and it has not skipped once. I did not even notice a layer change. Really! This is a very good player.

I was initially concerned due to some of the negative customer reviews on this product ... especially on the part where a disc tends to be stuck now and then (a number of customers seem to experience that problem). However, I thought that at that price, it was probably the best deal around for a 5-disc DVD player and gave it a shot.

Now that I have it all hooked up and running (it comes with the necessary component cables), I am glad to say that it works flawlessly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Performance for a Low Price!!!, January 10, 2001

I absolutely love this DVD Player!! The quality of the picture rocks, especially when connected via component cable. The sound ( I am running it with a Bose Lifestyle 12 system I bought before digital) is also amazing, in both DVD and CD. Actually, CD's sound better to me in the 3205 than what I was previously using. The remote is very easy to use, with a simple on screen menu. The only bad part is that the unit will not release just played discs!! I have tried to figure out why, but cannot. Overall if you want a great DVD/CD Player for under $300.00, go with the Toshiba 3205!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love It!, December 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-3205 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
Works wonderfully!

I don't have any problems with it ejecting disks and thought the instructions made it quite clear how to get a just played disk out. For this player, if you press the stop button once, you can resume it right where you left off (like pause works w/o the image on the screen). If you press stop twice, you lose your place and can start over. So, by pressing stop only once it seems quite obvious that the disk is still in the play position and you need to press stop twice to release the disk in the tray.

The player has "paused" a couple of time playing rental DVDs but has never gotten hung up. I expected this to happen as it seems most DVD players do this from time to time. It has been so minor that if you're not staring at the screen, you don't even notice.

My one complaint is not with the player itself but with the installation directions. My husband and I spent a long evening trying to get everything hooked up right. The instruction manual tells you how to hook it up to various audio equipment but doesn't give instructions for any other equipment. We had a heck of a time putting the satellite receiver into the mix, gave up on a VCR and didn't even attempt the Nintendo 64. The instruction guide seems to assume that you will have only a TV, audio equipment and the DVD player. Very frustrating since I assume that most people have either a satellite receiver or cable box. Referring to the documetation for those pieces of equipment is useless because even though these items are only a couple of years old, DVD players weren't mentioned (probably because they weren't as mainstream as now).

All in all, an excellent player that I am very happy with.
