Toshiba DVD beats Sony, December 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
When I first started looking at DVD players the first ones I looked at was the Sony players. I read a lot of reviews for different DVD players before I bought mine. Almost every player I read about had some glitch. Either they stoped mid-way through, or the audio sync was bad (sony), or something else was wrong. So I ended up buying a Toshiba SD-2109, because that was the one product I didn't hear a single bad about, and I searched for bad reviews. Also for the price of the Toshiba about $230-$270 (depending on where you go) was great. Everything about this DVD player is great. It has a great picture, the remote is easy to use, has DTS and AC3 outs Svideo, 3 types of zoom (which is really handy) and much much more. I would highly recomend this DVD player. The only thing that I wish it had that did NOT come with it was the SVideo cord. I had to buy that seperate. But unless you have a newer TV that has SVideo inputs you wont need it. BTW I rented the Matrix and had not one problem watching it.

Excellent entry level DVD player, December 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
I haven't had any problems with this player at all. It's performs well at what I bought it to do. Give me high quality audio and video. The only reason I give the review a 4 star rating instead of a 5 is because of the extremely small remote. Not a big deal but it is kinda hard to memorize button positions when your single finger covers 2-3 buttons. If you can stand that, then I suggest you buy. I don't see how you could lose.

decent player, November 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
the image quality is good, as well as the audio, but i would definatly recommend steping up to the sd3109.why? the remote on the 3109 is a million times easier to use , the 3109 has component video out for even better picture quality, and has built in DD decoding.also, for audiophiles, the 3109 is the only DVD player below $2000 that will read the HDCD format (high resolution CD)which are CD's encoded with 20 bit info versus 16 bit on standard CD's.the differance is very noticable. so overall the extra $100 is well spent on the upgrade to a 3109

For a first DVD player its great, December 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
This was the first DVD player I purchased and I must say it was well worth it, I've watched movies on the 800 dollar DVD players and you can't tell the diffrence. You dont get a ton of extra featurs like with some, but you really dont need most of the extra featurs anyway. You can see why this model is always sold out, but when it is in stcok make sure to get it, you wont be disappointed.

Best bang for the buck!, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a high quality, no non-sence DVD player with movie theater performance. The sound is excellent, the video is sharp and the controls easy to use and understand. I looked at the other players and found this one to be the best in features for the price.

Excellent Buy - Connection to TV, December 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
Excellent player for the price. If your TV does not have an"S" video connector or red, yellow, white audio videoconnector slots, only a coaxial cable type connection, just go and pick up a Video RF Modulator, which works fine.

SD2109 Highly Recommended, January 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
PROS: * Above average picture and audio clarity: Before purchasing SD2109, compared it to more expensive DVD players (ie: Sony DVPS550D, Panasonic DVD-A320, Yamaha DVD-S795) and found that the Toshiba's picture/audio clarity was noticeably better than most. In addition, when compared to other DVD players in the same price range (ie: Sony DVPS330, Panasonic DVD-A120), the SD2109's picture/audio quality was noticeably superior than all. Picture quality is very sharp, colour definition is very rich/robust (due to 10-Bit, 27 mHz Video D/A Converter). Audio is very clear/crisp (due to24-Bit/96 kHz PCM Audio Compatibility). 3D Spatializer (mimicks virtual 3D surround sound via only 2 speakers) is a little gimmicky though * Colorstream Component video outputs: hooked up SD2109 to my Sony Wega KV32FV15 via Monster M500V interconnect cables. Produces the sharpest, clearest picture/colour I've ever seen on a TV . If your TV has component video inputs, use them (don't be cheap with your cables though). * Easy-to-use on-screen menu selections (icon-based) for easy setting up of the SD2109 * Zoom feature is really nice: allows very good clarity at 4 (?) zoom levels * Another under-estimated feature...press stop and press play to resume where you pressed stop. No need to start from the beginning and skip to whatever chapter you were at. also, time search is useful * Value for the dollar: for the price, dollar-for-dollar, the best DVD player on the market. * Watch "The Bug's Life" and see for yourself just how good the SD2109 is CONS: * Remote: I don't care what anyone says...the remote buttons are too small and I find that the buttons need a "heavy" and "precise" click to make the remote function * Aesthetically looks cheap: personal wish....wish Toshiba made the unit look a little more "richer" looking * Had some problems with vertical pixel bleed/fade in Saving Private Ryan but every other DVD seemed fine (maybe the DVD was defective? ) * Wish it had built-in Dolby® Digital/DTS Decoding with 5.1Ch. Outputs (but at this price, I am not complaining) Thats it. Summary: Best value DVD player with above average picture/sound quality. Undisputed leader in its price class, rivals more expensive/fully featured DVD players in terms of picture/sound quality. BELIEVE ME, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SPEND MORE TO GET A BETTER DVD PLAYER. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY ITS BARGAIN-BASEMENT PRICE, the SD2109 is the best DVD on the market today in its price range, comparable with many more expensive DVD players.

Great value. Good product., November 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
I've had good luck with Toshiba electronics in the past so I bought this DVD player. It's a good basic model. Very easy to set up and I liked the remote too. I was pleased to discover that I can have both my VCR and DVD plugged into my TV simultaneously, which was a concern before I bought this since I record some shows. In my opinion, you don't have to spend the extra $$$ for the 3109 model unless you want the double disc feature.

A very good product for the money, December 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
The picture is excellent, except for an occasional slight leaking of horizontal lines, such as in scenes with a wide staircase or Venetian blinds. I love the wide screen format. One rental disk skipped and froze, but I think it was scratched. Matrix played without a hitch. The audio is excellent. The remote is amazingly small, but I quickly got used to pressing with a fingernail.

GET IT, December 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player (Electronics)
FANTASTIC player! I had so much trouble viewing some DVD's (The Matrix, WWW, etc) on a Zenith DVD player that was the same price as this one. I sold the one I had and immediately purchased the 2109. Great pic & sound, easy to set up, and perty! Doesn't have some of the fancier stuff, like the fiber-op output, but who does? Definately the best buy for the amount of $$$.
