After going through several DVD Players, I have found the PERFECT ONE -- the Toshiba 2200 DVD Player!
This player features everything that one needs to start watching the movies you love: * S-Video/ Component Video * Dolby Digital Decoder * Zoom (3 levels) * Dual tray * Coaxial & Digital audio output It plays every DVD flawlessly, and the audio quality is superb. Do not even think about buying anything else, this is the player to get. It is worth every penny!

High quality player,

After receiving this DVD player, I was able to set it up and start watching movies in less than five minutes. The picture is excellent, comparable to DVD players that cost hundreds more. The remote takes some getting used to, but is actually quite functional and logical in its setup. The value gets even better when you realize that it supports DTS audio as well. And to those who complain about the lack of an eject button on the remote, it's because if you have an entertainment center like I do, you probably don't want the tray banging against the glass when it comes out of the player. The fact is this player is easy to use, produces great audio and video, and is priced well to match. If you want a good high-end DVD player, the 2200 does the trick in every aspect. Gotta go now, finding more DVD's to watch this weekend!

Great if it works.,

This is my first DVD player that I bought, and I was initially very happy with it....great price, great sound, great picture quality. Then about 3 1/2 months after I received it, it stopped playing discs. I took it to an authorized Toshiba service center in late October, and after a few weeks found out the broken part was on backorder until Late November (suggesting that this is a flaw not unique to my machine). I still haven't gotten it back.... Furthermore, although the parts are covered by warranty, labor is not. A little ridiculous to pay for service to a machine that is not even half a year old. My recommendation-don't buy as many people are having problems with it (look through other reviews) due to both shoddy equiptment and a dismal warranty.

Great Value, but no CD-R support!,

I have found this player to be of great value for the price I paid. Nice features include the option for optical, digital, or 5.1 output, easy to use interface, and a dual-DVD/CD changer. The sound is crystal clear, making the perfect complement to my Sony STR-DE835 receiver. All the extra features are great except for the fact that the remote is impossible to read in the dark, and the SD-2200 will _NOT_ play CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RAM, or other such recordable media. However, it will play all your normal CDs, and even decodes the seldom used, but nice to hear, HDCD, or High-Definition Compatible Digital format, which effectively doubles the sampling rate of CDs (from 44kHz to 88kHz), for an incredibly clear CD listening experience. All in all, this player is a great choice for sub-$400 DVD players.

Great Product...When it works....,

I've had my Toshiba DVD for nearly 1 year now, and for the last 4 months or so, there have been numerous problems, like frozen pictures, "lost" discs, high pixelation, etc. I finally got fed up and brought it to an authorized Toshiba service center. Firstly, it's only fully warranted for 90 days. After that, it's parts only for 1 year. This repair will cost me $125.00. Nice. Thanks. Also, the AUTHORIZED service center has had my DVD for 5 weeks and counting..."Maybe some time next week," they say. I'm sticking with Sony from now on!

Great DVD Player,

The SD-2200 is a great DVD player in many ways. It excels in sound, video, and features.First of all, you have sound options. If you have a Dolby Digital/DTS receiver, you can use the optical output OR coax digital output to connect to your receiver. If you don't have such a receiver, the SD-2200 has a built-in decoder so you can connect 6-channel analog outputs to your receiver. The SD-2200 also has all of the popular video options. You can choose from composite video, s-video, or component video. I use the component video with my Toshiba 27V51 TV and the picture quality is great! I have also seen the SD-2200 hooked up with s-video for great quality as well. In terms of features, the SD-2200 is loaded. First of all, it has 2 disc trays, so you can swap one disk out while playing the other one. I find this feature especially helpful so I can keep one audio CD in one drive and a DVD in the other. The SD-2200 also has 3 levels of zoom, great pause and frame advance controls, and a great, easy to use "joystick-style" remote. The SD-2200 has worked very well for me for 9 months now. I'm confident it will keep me satisfied for years to come!

Everything you could need in a DVD player,

Let me begin by saying that I have been wanting and shopping for a DVD player for about a year and after literally going through and researching about 12 different players I decided on the Toshiba SD2200. I decided right. The SD2200 provides wonerful sound whether connected to a surround sound system or just connected to a standard two speaker system with it's simulated 3d surround you are truly immersed into the movie. Image quality is phenominal coming from a VHS watcher and music CD's are crisp and clear. My reccomendation for anyone who may be looking for a CD player for their home system and also considering a DVD player - the Toshiba SD2200 will do both for you and do it well!

Good features...but poor reliability,

After receiving this system, I thought it was fantastic. The picture and sound was awesome. The remote was easy to use and intuitive. Then two weeks later, it started with intermitent failures. It could not read the DVD disks. It said "no disk" or "insert disk". Contacting Toshiba was no help. They said to clean the disk (I had 10 brand new DVDs) and also to unplug and repower after 5 minutes. It would work okay after being off overnight. Then after another week, it failed permanently.

Love it,

I love this player. Great picture (the enhanced black feature is a God-send) and top notch sound. AC-3 decoding, SVHS, etc., makes setting up a home theater system much easier. I also like the Dual Disc System. The feature makes watching some of my favorite Hong Kong VCDs much more enjoyable. I'd prefer a carousel, or some other multi-disc function, but dual discs is fine-and-dandy for me. My gripes with this player are the remote (the buttons are too small, oddly placed and don't glow/aren't backlit), the fast forward/rewind functions (horrendous!), and that this player doesn't "bookmark" where you left off in a movie. Other than that, this is a flawless player. You can't go wrong with the SD-2200, expecially since it comes from such a high-quality and reliable brand.

Excellent Player,

Since I already reviewed this excellent component some weeks ago, I will be concise. To the reviewer below who writes about the "shortcut" to switching discs, Toshiba added a button on the top right portion of the remote that controls this function. It is labled Disc Select, and does just what it is supposed to do. As for the reviewers who point out the lack of an eject button, I don't find this to be a problem, since until they invent a mechanical arm that will open the empty DVD case, slip the ejected DVD into it, and open the next case and insert a new DVD...you get the idea! |
