Key features include ColorStream component-video outputs. The ColorStream component-video connection is the ideal way to connect a digital video source like DVD to a TV display, resulting in increased image purity, incredibly lifelike colors and crisp color resolutions.
The 10-bit D/A converter with high-resolution filter ensures excellent picture quality, while the 24-bit/192 kHz audio converter with dialogue enhancement renders clear and dynamic sound reproduction.
Some of the more convenient features include four forward and reverse-scan speeds and a first-time setup menu that assists viewers in accurately setting up their player to suit their system's capabilities, quickly configuring the DVD player for 90 percent of all home entertainment applications. Parental lock, time search, camera angle select, and four-power picture zoom are all included on this model, as are S-video, composite-video, and coaxial digital outputs, giving you a wide range of connection options.
The SD2705 comes with a remote control, and a one-year warranty on parts and labor from Toshiba.

Toshiba Compatibility Problems,
By A Customer
This review is from: Toshiba SD2705 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
The Toshiba SD2705 experienced audio delays when sending Dolby Digital code to my JVC 7010VBK receiver. The picture was fine, but every time you paused, skipped a frame or pushed play, the audio would cut out for about 50 seconds. I thought I configured something improperly and spent a great deal of time trying to resolve the problem on my own. I brought both the DVD Player and Receiver to Circuit City (where I bought the receiver)where 5 home theatre sales associates and 2 hours later we still could not resolve the problem. The DVD player worked with other receivers and the receiver worked with other DVD players. So I then went to Best Buy (where I bought the DVD player). They told me that the Toshiba model has a problem with its digital optical and coaxial connections when connecting to certain receivers and I should call Toshiba. Since I purchased the DVD player before the receiver, had it over 30 days and didn't get the extra warranty coverage with Best Buy, they were no longer interested in helping me. I then contacted Toshiba by phone, waited 45 minutes to talk to someone who said they have never heard of the problem the Best Buy rep discussed with me. In addition, the Toshiba representative was rude and somewhat condescending. However, they did set me up for a warranty service call. I still have not resolved the problem but I think others should beware. In my experience, the customer service at Toshiba and Best Buy is disgraceful and ineffective. I will never buy another Toshiba product or shop at Best Buy. Circuit City, however, were very helpful and very responsive and I definitely would recommend them to others.

I bought this one because it seemed like the best value for the money. But in the end I was pretty disappointed with it. I would have thought that Toshiba was a dependable quality product but I was wrong. I ended up returning this player because it kept freezing up. It wouldn't respond to anything, even the off button, and I kept having to unplug the darn thing and plug it in to get it back to normal again. It would do this with both DVD's and CD's. This gets to be a pain in the butt when your entertainment centre weighs a couple hundred pounds and the plug is way back there behind it. I was also disappointed with the random feature. You could play 5 CD's at random but it had to be 2 songs from each CD before it would randomly pick the next. Why 2 songs? I wanted random, not pairs. Otherwise, it seemed to have great picture, but even the cheapest DVD players have great picture. I'm not sure which brand I'll move onto but I think I'll pay a bit more this time.

I have a daughter (3) whom uses (w/o assistance) the DVD player more than I use the stove. I am very unhappy with the frequent "pausing" and the problems I have ran into with several videos (the Toshiba doesn't recognize it until a power cycle...sometimes not at all). I can honestly recommend that a user looks at a different unit instead of purchasing a Toshiba. A friend has an AIWA and another a JVC, each without problems. Good overall quality (plenty of capabilities), but the freezing conditions (1 sec to 1 min) cancel every other nice feature out. This DVD player has changed my complete feelings regarding Toshiba, from DVD players, to laptops, to cameras...now out of the equation (still rank "slightly" above Packard Bell)
