5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
Great Player so far. Have watched a couple movies--Lord of the Rings, Star Wars--flawless viewing. It plays DVD-RW (have had success with Sony and Memorex DVD-RW discs burned from Sony DRU500A). I have it hooked through a Sony Receiver and the surround sound is excellent. Have yet to try the MP3 function. Appears to be a great buy. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good DVD player - NOT a good 5 CD changer
Nobody really needs a 5 disc DVD player (most people only watch 1 movie at a time and don't mind switching discs in betwee). The point in having a 5 disk unit is to replace a 5 disc CD player.

This unit works fine as a DVD player however it leaves much to be desired as a CD player.

The important things to note are the cons from the Amazon review - Slow to change...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy, December 9, 2002

A word to the wise- research, research, research. I bought a Phillips and it was really bad. i returned it for this one, and its way better. The zoom is by far the coolest feature. It looks nice, its fully navigatable w/o the remote, and it says 'hello' when you turn it on. The only downside is its kind of slow, but its not annoying. Also, the remote is comfortable, with open/close,and disk change. DTS for great sound (if you have a DTS receiver). All in all, its a good cd/dvd changer for the price. Good luck.

This was my first Toshiba product ever. And I am most satisfied with it.
I saw that Toshiba was one of the developers of the DVD and it shows with their fine players.
This player is excellent. Great video with progressive scanning, incredible sound with very realistic surround sound effect, well laid-out, ergonomically designed remote control, and solid craftsmanship on the player.
Probably the best thing about this player and all Toshiba's is their ability to ZOOM on a picture. I have a standard TV and I get really annoyed when DVD's are only made for widescreen. And with my old player I would only see half the screen and get those annoying black lines at the top and bottom of the screen.
No more. This player has a zoom that eliminates that problem, and now I get the whole picture.
Furthermore, now I can finally see why DVD is so much better than video.
Toshiba does not have the name like SONY and Yamaha, but their products are fantastic and a lot less money. This unit is [$$$]less than a comparable SONY (which does not even offer a ZOOM feature)
Buy this DVD, it maybe the best player on the market with no exceptions!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and Easy, January 22, 2003

I was looking for a simple to use DVD player with progressive scan and 5 disc capability.
This player fit the bill and rated rather highly. The manual is very easy to use, almost "idiot proof".
The player was able to play all my burned CD's and MP3's with no problem and I hear that it can play some burned DVD's as well. Not bad.
The progressive scan has a jaw dropping picture on my High Definition TV, and the sound was fantastic as well. Try the surround sound, and you will feel like you are in the movie theater.
I would definitely recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best!, February 4, 2003

I wanted to get a DVD player that could hold multiple DVD's and have outstanding picture quality and sound.
I first tried a Panasonic model but did not have much luck with that. Then a friend of mine told me that Toshiba invented the DVD and makes some of the best players on the market.
I loved this thing from the momment I got it. It comes on and says hello. It has great surround sound and the picture looks so good it is almost surreal.
Definitely pick this DVD player and you will be extremely happy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good DVD player - NOT a good 5 CD changer, May 31, 2004

Nobody really needs a 5 disc DVD player (most people only watch 1 movie at a time and don't mind switching discs in betwee). The point in having a 5 disk unit is to replace a 5 disc CD player.

This unit works fine as a DVD player however it leaves much to be desired as a CD player.

The important things to note are the cons from the Amazon review - Slow to change discs, and no direct cd selection from the remote.

First: there is no 'shuffle/random/continuous, all discs/one disc' type options as you would find on a 5 disc CD player. You don't seem to be able to stick 5 cd's in and have them play through them all. It will play one disc and stop - or you can program it to play tracks from each CD.

Second: Not being able to select a disc directly from the Remote means you have to 'disc skip' through ALL the disks to get to the one you want. This is made all the more painful due to the fact that the player has to load/read and identify each disc before it will skip to the next one -i.e. pressing disc skip 3 times doesn't skip 3 discs.

Last: Not only is there no direct access to a disc from the remote - but the player doesn't even respond to the direct access codes for toshiba players that DO have that feature. I.e. It's not just that the remote doesn't have the buttons - the player is not designed to work that way - despite having direct access buttons on the front of the unit.

This makes a pretty decent DVD player, but if what you are looking for is something to replace your CD player as well, I'd take a pass on this. Try looking for a DVD changer made by a company that makes good 5 disc CD players.

I had a Toshiba SD-2200, so I decided to go with Toshiba once again - and I wasn't disappointed. In preparation for a widescreen TV purchase, I decided I needed to upgrade to Progressive Scan DVD player as well. I hooked it up to a 57" Hitachi widescreen with Monster Component Cables, and the picture is flawless! (Make sure you flip the switch on the back of the DVD player to Progressive Scan AND do the same in Setup on the screen). I have it hooked up to a JVC receiver with optical cable for surround sound, and it sounds awesome. I have also listened to regular CD and MP3 as well. The only downside is that it seems slow when turning it on and loading a disc. However, I can wait if it's going to look and sound this good!

Bought this DVD from Amazon as a result of the reviews. However, once connected to the TV, the unit began opening and shutting the disk drawer and wouldn't stop. On top of that when I was able to load a DVD and some CD's the display keep saying "NO DISK". Amazon was great, send me a UPS sticker to send the unit back. Unfortunately they could not replace it. So am shopping for a Sony.

4.0 out of 5 stars Is a DVD Player for god's sake!!!, April 4, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba SD3805 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I really believe that alot of the negative feedback on this product is unfair "Is a DVD Player for god's sake" if I want a CD player that works good with my CD's I would buy myself a good CD player. As for the product I believe is a great bargain and would give 5 stars if it wasn't because to go to one DVD to the other you have to hit the skip button other then that is great it reads even the DVD's that my old JVC wouldn't read so no complains here.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best DVD Player I Have Seen!, February 12, 2003

I wanted to upgrade my old DVD player, so I picked up this Toshiba multi-disc player.
I am quite happy with it. The picture is incredibly sharp hooked up to my High-definition tv. I am able to take advantage of the progressive scan.
The sound was so good that I used this player to replace my CD player, and now I just have one player for my DVD's and CD'S.
It really is made well, and works flawlessly, and unlike other instruction manuals this one is easy to follow.
This is my first Toshiba product and I am really impressed. I would highly recommend it.
