Good for DVD, bad for CD's,

This review is from: Toshiba SD4205 Cinema Series 5-Disc DVD Player (Electronics)
It has a lot of features and functions for the DVD player, but none as a CD player. The instruction booklet doesn't even mention the CD playing aspect of the machine. I guess this is understandable since the only thing it will do with CD's are play them one at a time in forward order. You can't program CD's to play one after another, you can't skip to a particular track, you can't skip backwards, etc. I had bought the 5-disc carousel so that I could continuously play CD's, but this player won't do that. It won't repeat a CD and you have to press play again to get the next CD to play. I'm returning this because I really wanted a full featured DVD and CD player. This is only a full featured DVD player.

A great 5-disc DVD player. Easy to setup and get going. Lots of great features such as angle control. Great easy-to-use remote control. Music plays great including CDR discs.

Get it....now!,

As I understand it, this model has been discontinued as Toshiba moves toward MP3 players. For the price and the features, I say 'Get it...now!!'.At first I thought coupling a Toshiba Cinema Series television with this Cinema Series DVD would be overkill and almost cancelled my order. I'm glad I didn't. I have a 5-disc Technics CD so I'm only using this unit for the DVD. The unit works fantastically with my Toshiba 32A60 through the video ports. The zoom is great, the slow and fast motion are great, the remote is fully functional. Both the TV and DVD have S-Video and ColorStream ports but I've maxed my electronics budget for this month so I'll have to wait to buy the necessary cables. My television is connected to my Technics surround sound system which is fine for me; the sound is fantastic. The only negative I have is the autoplay feature --- the unit plays as soon as the carousel is closed. I haven't figured out yet how to turn it off.

Well, I saw other DVD players for less, but I had a budget of three bills to spend so I opted for this one... and what a great choice I made... if I do say so myself. In a nutshell it's easy to get started (the twelve year old had it up and running without opening the book... although I hooked up the wires) and it's got the complex features for us tech saavy enthusiasts (I'm still tweaking the advanced settings). The picture is as sharp and crisp as I want (using super-video outputs) and the 5.1 channel sound makes everything go bump in the night just like it should from the crunch of crisp dry leaves under foot to the celery like snap of a cervical vertebra (don't watch horror flicks alone with the 6 channel surround sound activated). Overall, I'm very happy with this one!!!

Product bad, Toshiba Service very bad,

I have spent the last four months trying to get my DVD player fixed! It was still under warranty, stopped working, they could never fix it, then sent me another "referbished" one that was also broken! They want me to start the whole process over again, which I will do just to keep them from getting off the hook, but they are very hard to deal with.

I've had this Toshiba SD4205 DVD player for only two weeks, but I had to write a review on it and hope it convinces other's to purchase this great player. I was going to purchase a Panasonic or Pioneer player in the ...price range, but decided to research a few more models made by Toshiba. Am I glad I did. I decided to pay a little more and that little more bought a lot of great features not available on the other models. This unit has HDCD (High Definition CD) decoding. I played a John Coltrane Jazz CD, Wow!! what a great sound it produced thru my JBL book shelve speakers. My TV is an older 27" that has S-Video imput. The picture quality of the rental movies were great. Better than the Sony Laserdisc that this replaced. Any one want to buy an old Laserdisc? The remote take's a little time to get used too. Well worth the extra money for this great player.

This DVD player is high-quality. Great picture, no mechanical problems. I recommend it over the entry-level DVD players for DVD enthusiasts.
