Super ColorStream Pro Component Video Outputs
Because the digital filter enables eight times oversampling of the component video signal, Super ColorStream Pro players deliver the highest quality video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component video equipped analog or digital TV. When this connection is utilized, typical NTSC artifacts--like video noise, dot crawl, and flicker--are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with unequaled color purity
Digital Cinema Progressive (3/2 Pulldown)
Delivers the smoothest, most film-like images to any progressive scan television, such as an HD-compatible one, and ensures maximum resolution.
Video Black Level Expansion and PLUGE
Grayscale in video is measured and tracked on a scale of 0 (black) to 100 (white) IRE units. In NTSC video we have traditionally assigned the 7.5 IRE value as being the black cutoff in a picture. The EXPANDED mode in the "Video Black Level Setting" menu enables Toshiba DVD players to output a 0 IRE signal for richer, deeper black tones in every image.
Parallel Video Output
This highly convenient feature lets you connect your Toshiba DVD player via Composite, S-Video, and/or Interlaced Component Video Outputs and watch simultaneous images from each connected TV. Ideal for multi-room applications.
Digital Photo Viewer
The Toshiba Digital Photo Viewer enables a user to display digital photographs on a television set via a compatible DVD player. A variety of popular digital formats are supported including Konica, Fuji Photo, Kodak Photo CD as well as JPEG files created on a home PC. An intuitive on screen display assists the user in the creation of customized slideshows with a few simple clicks of the DVD players remote control. The actual viewing time of each slide can also be pre-set. In addition, the user can zoom, rotate and pan the photos, to create an interesting and professional looking presentation.
Audio
DVD-Audio Compatibility
Enjoy playback of DVD-Audio titles encoded with higher resolution audio than standard CDs and expanded multi-channel effects. This 'total immersion' experience can include text (song lyrics), still pictures (slide show), and moving visuals (music video).
Coaxial & Optical TosLink Digital Audio Output
Sends the audio signal to an audio/video receiver in its digital form allowing access to the Dolby Digital/DTS track encoded on the DVD disc.
MP3 Audio Compatibility
Expands the players' functionality to include playback of custom music collections encoded via MP3 digital audio format onto CD-R or CD-RW media
EAM/Dialogue Expander
Offers three audio-enhancing modes: Normal; 3-D provides virtual surround sound from two-speaker playback systems via Spatializer N-2-2; and Dialogue enhances center channel frequencies during playback of Dolby Digital encoded discs via the analog audio outputs.
Convenience
NAVI Graphical User Interface
Uses graphical icons (instead of simple text) in a convenient menu display for quick access to key player functions. Includes a Virtual Remote control that can be displayed on-screen, an Angle Viewer for titles encoded with multiple camera angles, Preview for creation of thumbnail chapter views, Strobe for a breakdown of a particular scene, and Capture that allows for custom wallpaper.
Picture Zoom
This interactive feature allows you to select an area of the picture you want to zoom in on and magnify. Enhanced digital processing during moving video or freeze-frame playback produces superior color fidelity and resolution, even when you're zoomed in. Also can be used to expand letter-box-only films to increase the viewable area on-screen.
Remote Confirmation
Lets users know that a remote operation command has been received by the player with an audible 'beep' sound.

Excellent bargain-priced DVD player.,

Toshiba is one of the top brands in TV sets and DVD players. When I recently bought a new TV set and progressive scan DVD player I shopped all of the available sets very critically because picture quality is very important to me. Toshiba and Sony were clearly the two brands with the best picture quality, but Toshiba was less expensive. So I bought a Toshiba TV and progressive scan DVD player at quite reasonable prices and I'm thoroughly satisfied with both. As a bonus, Toshiba products have an excellent reputation for quality and reliability. However, if you're primarily interested in playing CDs rather than DVDs, get a Sony Super Audio CD (SACD) player. They sound significantly better on both Super Audio CDs and other CD discs than any other CD players I've ever heard. But if you're primarily interested in playing DVDs, and want outstanding picture quality at a bargain price, I don't think that you can beat this Toshiba.

Great bang for the buck,

I don't pretend to be an expert, but when I replaced the Toshiba 5 disc player with the 4800, I couldn't believe the difference. The picture on my Mitsubishi HDTV was sharper and more akin to what I had seen in the video store when I bought it. I will never play cds, mp3s or anything like that on it. For sheer entertainment, you can't beat it.

After an arduous journey through the world of HDTV, Progressive Scan, and Dolby/DTS 5.1, I have to say that I have finally found my golden fleece. As a beginner, I thought Sony was the brand to buy, but I was much chagrined after seeing the Toshiba.I first had a Sony DVP-NS715P that I exchanged for a Sony DVP NC655P 5-Disc Changer. On both Sony models, the progressive scan image quality was terrible. The reds and blues would appear blurry and horridly undefined. The only way I could get it to look halfway decent was to run the player through S-Video on Interlaced, defeating the purpose of having progressive scan. At first I thought it was my TV, but when I tested it out with the same TV with different settings at the dealer at which I bought my TV (A Sony KV32HV600 HDTV Monitor, mind you), it still looked bad. I tested the Toshiba SD-4800 and the image quality between them was like night and day. The clarity and definition was more than what I had expected from HDTV/Progressive scan. I took the DVPNC655P back to Best Buy and got the Toshiba, and I won't be looking back!
