The Cinema Series SD6200 with Super ColorStream PRO progressive-scan component-video output delivers the ultimate in DVD-Video image quality, marking a dramatic advance in image clarity and definition.
ColorStream PRO is a newly developed Toshiba technology using an advanced digital filtering and decoding process that employs 4x oversampling of the "Y" component-video signal and 8x oversampling of the "Pr" and "Pb" signals. The cumulative result is a remarkable film-like, flicker-free video image with demonstrably improved edge definition and enhanced color detail. Super ColorStream PRO dramatically improves color purity and provides color resolution unmatched by any other packaged video medium to date.
To complement this state-of-the-art digital video technology, the player also employs an advanced 27-bit/54 MHz video DAC to virtually eliminate image-degrading artifacts.
The SD6200 raises the bar in high-end DVD player performance, delivering the most accurate reproduction of filmed entertainment yet achieved by home video source components when connected to a Toshiba ColorStream HD-equipped TV or other compatible multiscan display device.
Further enhancing image quality, the SD6200 features Video Black Level Expansion circuitry. This function lets you choose to set the reference black threshold cutoff to Normal (7.5 IRE) or Enhanced (0 IRE). Choosing the Enhanced position from the onscreen display expands the overall contrast range in the picture, resulting in richer, deeper blacks as well as finer tonal gradation and gray scale reproduction. All new Toshiba DVD players include the capability of reproducing "blacker than black" PLUGE signals, a critical feature for maintaining the optimum brightness setting in a properly calibrated home theater.
Further reflecting Toshiba's commitment to exemplary audio performance and the versatility of its products, this new model features HDCD precision filtering and decoding, a process that provides true 20-bit audio resolution from the growing number of HDCD-enhanced discs. The patented HDCD precision filtering process also enhances the playback sound of conventional CDs. With HDCD decoding, a Toshiba DVD player is literally transformed from a DVD-Video player that also plays CDs into a DVD player that doubles as a superb audiophile-quality CD player, capable of providing the full sonic benefits of the approximately 3,000 HDCD-encoded CD titles now available.
Ease of use and viewer convenience has always been a top priority in Toshiba DVD players. For example, all models feature icon-based onscreen displays, as well as a FIRST SETUP menu that presents a series of simple onscreen questions to consumers and then automatically customizes their DVD player to best serve their home theater needs. The FIRST SETUP menu quickly configures the DVD player for 90 percent of all home theater applications in a simple and straightforward manner that does not require any consultation of the owner's manual.
Also new is a Title Viewer/Chapter Viewer feature on the SD6200 that lets you overlay still-image thumbnail pictures of the first scene from each title or chapter, so you can easily select and jump to desired scenes instantly. And for users who consistently misplace their remote control, the SD6200 features front-panel operation of player and disc-based functions.
Another Toshiba first is the company's Strobe Picture Viewer feature, which lets you arrange and view action images in successive order by selecting the number of picture "samples" desired and varying the time between each successive image.
A QUICK MENU navigation feature further enhances ease of use. When the QUICK key on the remote is pressed, an onscreen menu appears, displaying only those commands specific to the particular playback mode in which the player is engaged. This makes interaction with the player faster and easier, eliminating the need to scroll through irrelevant menu choices.
The SD6200 also includes a newly redesigned fluorescent illuminated remote with a toggle switch design, eight-way compass cursor, and Virtual Remote key. When the Virtual Remote key is pressed, an easy-to-read onscreen remote display appears as an overlay on the video image. This remote lets you access key DVD playback functions onscreen, directing commands entirely from the compass cursor of the handheld remote. This feature provides ideal access to primary player operations in low-light home-theater environments. A remote confirmation feature adds to the convenience of remote operation, sounding a beep whenever a command has been received.

ATTENTION: This DVD player is for the serious Home Theatre environment. Upgrading to the world of Widescreen HDTV Progressive Scan. The GOOD NEWS is we now can enjoy our DVD experience even more, with better clarity (Progressive Scan 480P), color (Color - Stream) and sound (HDCD). The BAD NEWS is we must decide if we want or can afford this "BIG LEAGUE" world of Progressive Scan? Here is the BOTTOM LINE, The Toshiba SD-6200 Cinema Series Progressive-Scan DVD Player w/component video, Color Stream Pro & HDCD sound is the player to have for this upgrade!!!!!! The SD-6200 offers the perfect base (foundation) for your HDTV (Widescreen Theatre) System. NOTE: Progressive Scan must have an originator (SD-6200) and a compatible receiver (HDTV that is Progressive Scan Ready) for the magic to happen. Toshiba is the Leader in making great DVD players and the greatest for those who are in the HDTV Progressive Scan Mode. For the NON-PROGRESSIVE SCAN USERS Toshiba makes a great alternative DVD player with Color-Stream Pro and nice capabilities (SD-2150). Good Luck!

Very Good Player,

I already had a DVD player for my computer and it performed really well, however I wanted something for my home entertainment system. This product delivered. It surpassed any picture quality that I have seen so far--only to be rivaled by movie theaters. The menus and options will take a little practice to get used to, however, the remote control comes in handy with its navigation buttons. Sound is definitely great on this player, when good speakers are attached to the player. Overall, this is an excellent buy.

This unit is a upgrade from an original Sony, what a difference. The picture is perfect especially when used with Colorstream connections (And Toshiba 55" TV). Great audio with surround sound 5 channel connections. Remote takes a little to get used to though. All round good performance.
