5.0 out of 5 stars Very good upscaled image quality
This model number, SDK1000, appears to be a package specifically sold at Costco. It includes an HDMI cable, in addition to composite RCA cables. The DVD player itself is super-thin and slim and small and lightweight, yet it does a very good job at upscaling regular DVD images to 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p, as long as you use the HDMI cable. (In other words, upscaling is...

1.0 out of 5 stars It died after 2 minutes.
The SDK1000 is avalable from many vendors on the net and almosts all sell as "refurbished".
In fact, Amazon is about the only vendor that sells it as "new".
Now I know exactly why.

I connected it to my TV via HDMI and it worked for a total of about 2-3 minutes and then, it suddenly died.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good upscaled image quality, April 28, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba SDK1000 DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling (NEW Model) (Includes HDMI Cable) (Electronics)
(In other words, upscaling is not available on RCA cables, composite or component.) Image quality and audio quality are both very good. I paid less than forty bucks at Costco for this, and I think it's a GREAT value.

The user's manual is hard to read, typical of electronics. The remote control is actually easy to use, once you get used to its layout, or just use a universal remote if you prefer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong Value in a Basic DVD player, July 31, 2010

This review is from: Toshiba SDK1000 DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling (NEW Model) (Includes HDMI Cable) (Electronics)
I debated buying a Wifi enabled Blu-Ray DVD player but decided to wait for prices to fall further. Also, I don't own any Blu-Ray discs so it seemed silly to buy one at this point.

I researched a number of basic DVD players that will do up-converting to 1080p. This Toshiba seemed a good choice. The price was right. Also, Toshiba has a good reputation for relability. My wife has owned a Toshiba DVD/DCD changer for over 6 years and has never had a problem with it. She also wns a Toshiba TV which has been very reliable.

The only downside so far has been fairly slow loading and starting of DVD's. I have an old Panasonic DVD/Cd changer which loads much more quickly.

So far, this has been a good vaue for a basic DVD player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solves My Problem, May 30, 2010

This review is from: Toshiba SDK1000 DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling (NEW Model) (Includes HDMI Cable) (Electronics)
My review is not nearly as technical as others due to me being way behind the 8 ball when it comes to electronics. I bought one of these Toshiba units because my very old Polaroid player would play store-bought dvd's just fine, but would play dvd movies that I had recorded from VHS tapes on my Go Video machine terribly. There were herky jerky movements, skips in the audio and pixillation plus dropouts continuously. I was reluctant to buy the Toshiba because I knew it wouldn't solve the problem, and I would get bogged down hooking it up and getting through the manual. WRONG. My hookup of the RCA cables to my old picture tube TV was easy, and I just popped in one of my old recorded movie dvd's. It played beautifully, with a picture quality that I didn't think possible with my ancient setup. I'll get to the instruction manual later. Thanks Toshiba, for solving my problem. But now I'll probably stay up half the night watching movies.

My TV would no longer recognize it (no signal) and the remote no longer could comunicate with it.

So, It goes without saying that it will eventually wind up as another "refurbished" SDK1000.

It evidenly has too many problems for it to be considered.

3.0 out of 5 stars not happy, March 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba SDK1000 DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling (NEW Model) (Includes HDMI Cable) (Electronics)
This is my first purchase of a DVD player over $50. All of my previous DVD players worked fine, I purchased this DVD player for the HDMI option for my new VIZIO tv. I like this DVD model, it is slim and looks great, great picture, however the manual is useless. There also does not appear to be a resume option which is very annoying and really unbelievable for the price - I called Toshiba for live support, and it is not available for DVD's, only a prompt that is also useless for specific questions or issues other than a bad disk. I'm a little disappointed, but I like the quality and the picture, so I will keep it

2.0 out of 5 stars Missing Some Key Things, August 9, 2010
This review is from: Toshiba SDK1000 DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling (NEW Model) (Includes HDMI Cable) (Electronics)
The Toshiba SDK1000 DVD player promised to improve my DVD viewing and listening experience. But, it is missing some basics that I need. I have a library of older DVDs and many I've recorded off the air. Many of the older, and all of the off-the-air DVDs have Closed Captioning [CC] for the hearing impaired, but no subtitles. My wife needs CC. This unit does not process CC, only subtitles. It also skipped on the home recorded ones [I have a very fine Panasonic recorder, and have not had any problem with the recordings on any other players]. In addition, it does not have S-Video output and no run-time display, only chapter numbers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, January 28, 2012

This review is from: Toshiba SDK1000 DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling (NEW Model) (Includes HDMI Cable) (Electronics)
Slick, very thin and play all the formats, including picture slide shows recorded on CD or DVD. The tension grabber is, it has a HDMI hook up (cable included) wich gives you a super picture quality and utilizing the full TV screen. Recommended highly. The prize, well let's put it this way; you can not beat it with a stick.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!, January 20, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Toshiba SDK1000 DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling (NEW Model) (Includes HDMI Cable) (Electronics)
I purchased 2 DVD players in November 2011. They were listed as NEW, upon opening the boxes they were both labeled as refurbished. I returned them 24 hours later. They received them 2 days after that. It is now almost the end of January 2012 and I still have not received my credit.

DO NOT BUY FROM THEM, EVER!

Very pleased with the product so far. Very sleak, attractive lines. Easy to connect to TV. We watched one video on our HD TV so far and it was great. I would recommend without hesitation.
