To put it all in a nutshell this laptop is excellent.
The pros:
Long battery life (3 1/2, to 4 hours), 16 inch screen (very bright), 4gigs of ram, 64bit vista, hdmi port, esata port, sleep and charge, feather touch buttons, and GREAT speakers. This laptop really is great for the money. You can upgrade the ram to 8gigs but comes with 4. Has a built in web cam and microphone that come in super clear on skype. The keyboard also has a number pad on the right. Toshiba has put a great multi touch touch pad (Synatics) on the computer that lets you do numerous functions. The T6500 Core 2 Duo processor is lightning fast. There is an eco-utility button that puts your computer on a strict power saver level that really helps out with battery life. The computer is very quiet and produces very little heat. Windows 7 upgrade.

The cons:
Fingerprints get everywhere. Toshiba put a glossy finish on the computer which looks awesome but shows everything. Toshiba should have put light scribe instead of label flash because label flash only has DVD's istead of CD-RW. The face recognition with the web cam also does not work very well, stick with a conventional password.

All in all it is a great computer for the price.

Before purchasing I had done a great deal of research on both Newegg and Amazon. I had noticed a lot of hit-or-miss responses from those that had purchased Acer and Asus machines. Couldn't find any bad comments on the Toshiba's and although we don't use Toshiba at work the IT Manager here told me they were a solid product. The addition of a 10 key on the new 16 inch notebooks is definitely a great feature and a requirement for me as this laptop's primary function is for a home based business. The screen is very crisp and the fit and finish is excellent. Very good sound from the Harmon Kardon speakers. The only thing that I would like to have is a backlit keyboard.

I've always been a fan of Toshiba laptops, but even if Satellite A505-S6967 is not exactly a portable laptop but a desktop replacement, it certainly exceeds all expectations. Very fast, huge HD, extraordinary monitor, excellent speakers, long battery life. Very good value for money - in my case, excellent as I bought it on a special offer!

This laptop successfully topples any Mac. Six months into use, I am very satisfied. LCD is beautiful, Keyboard works perfectly, and there isn't a single hiccup. Only problem is that the screen is very smudge prone, but it is unnoticeable when the LCD is on. But the most important function is the eco Utility. It saves power very well. I love this product! Ir is great for use in gaming and work.

I have had this laptop for almost 60 days and already have to return to Toshiba for repair to the DVD/CD drive that does not work. Overall the laptop is packed with features and I enjoyed use for the most part. I'm not happy that I now have to be without laptop use while it is sent off for the repair for X number of days. I was not overly impressed with customer service either. After spending over an hour and being transferred all over the place and having to repeat everything over each time was pretty frustating. Finally four persons later, I was finally taken care of, it took so long that the original case number I was given had expired by the time the fourth person was able to schedule the repair process. I'm somehwat skeptical of giving a high rating at this time due to my experience so far.

A BIOS update (FROM TOSHIBA!) crashed the new A505 series laptop I purchased on Amazon. I had to send it to Toshiba, and then they had to back-order a part - for a NEW computer! More lengthy delays and errors with shipping it back to me. This all happened after the sound cut out on the computer, and the service support made things worse before I spoke to a supervisor who fixed their errors. They never did "fix" the sound problem. The sound just came back, and they had no idea why. And the battery life, even using the economy mode, is no where near 3 hours.
I see this as a classic case of something this cheap was too good to be true. I have no faith in this computer - I will constantly be waiting for the next thing to go wrong, such as the flimsy power cord connection to the computer or yet another crash from their updates.

I bought a SATELLITE A505-S6965 at the end of July and liked using it. The backlight blew and I sent the laptop in to Toshiba for repair. They received it on October 5th. I called yesterday (Nov 18) and they did not have an estimated fix date and told me there was no escalation path. Customer service is as important to me as the computer. I would not recommend purchasing a Toshiba product for this reason.

I recently bought a Toshiba laptop and within two days of receiving it, it crashed on me. I have had it for three months and it has crashed three times! It has been in the hands of Toshiba repair being "fixed" for half of the time that I've owned it. Customer service was friendly but they would not help me. I demanded a replacement computer the last time I had problems and they said the best they could do was send it to another repair center to be "fixed". I called Amazon and I was taken care of immediately! They helped me where Toshiba would not and I will definetly buy another computer from them.... just NOT a Toshiba!
