5.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba Is King!!
First off, let me start off by saying this is my first Toshiba Laptop, so this is in no way a biased review. This laptop is more than sufficient for basic computing with exras. It was given to me by my mother because I needed one for school reports and such. Right away this laptop found a internet connection as soon as it turned on and I was in business. Here are some of...

And that is definitely what my Satellite provides. If I want to play games or do more than scan the internet or check email, I have a beefier desktop that fits that bill. If you just want to stay connected to the internet and take care of your business on the run-this will do. The only disappointment is the battery life-it is very short. Can't stay disconnected from the AC too long, or it cuts off on you-pretty much 1 hour is it.

There are far better laptops on the market at this time (Jul 06). Here's what I don't like about mine.

1. Gets VERY hot. If you're using it as a no-kidding laptop (i.e. on your lap) then you'll heat up along with this clunker.
2. Too big and too heavy by today's standards.
3. Battery life is terrible.
4. Crappy motherboard. My motherboard died after 15 months. I'm still trying to salvage it, but so far having no luck.
5. Construction is a bit clunky - always seems like the next time I open the laptop up, it's going to bust the hinges. Hasn't happened yet, but seems just moments away.

If you pay more than $500 for this laptop, you're wasting money. Check eBay - go for something comparable around $500 - you can't do worse and will probably do better.

As an aside, my work computer is a Toshiba Portege and I LOVE it. So, my specific problem is not Toshiba, but with this specific model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dont waste your money!, July 21, 2006
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite A65-S126 Laptop (2.80 GHz Celeron, 256 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD-CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
This laptop is my first laptop, so maybe I have an unrealistic expectation, but the Toshiba Satellite is nothing but trouble for me.

The battery life is terrible, you might get 45 minutes and that is if you are doing basic computing only.

It gets very hot! I have taken this laptop back to be repaired 3 times because it over heats and shuts down after about 20 minutes.

The screen is very flimsy, it will flop around 2-3" in either direction when you have it open.

I have also had to return it for repair of the AC adapter, they told me a wire came loose and had to be soldered back in place...I am no expert but wires dont just unsolder themselves!

The hard dirve also took a dump once and whipped out everything I had.

Overall I am completly dissatisfied with this machine and I will never buy a Toshiba product again!

Here are some of the things that make it a very good, and dependable notebook:

Pros-
-Relatively fast as far as start-up and most applications
-Screen is beautiful and displays great
-Keyboard is awesome and not too small
-Nice n Light
-With wireless internet that has NEVER failed me
-I have 1,000 songs in my iTunes library and there MORE than enough room for more
-Watching DVDs on this thing is great. Great speakers
-I barely and rarely feel heat coming from it( Its always on my lap, I use it in bed)
-Very Stylish look
-Can't tell difference between this one and a notebook more advanced

Cons-
-VERY VERY poor battery life. I always have it AC connected
-Screen seems to be flimsy, wiggles a lot

So all in all, a very good laptop to have a home and on the go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toshibas Great Workhorses, January 19, 2006

I've owned 3 Toshibas over the years and use them for work and home almost every day.

The features vs. price beats almost mosts competitors and I have yet to have a single breakdown on any of my Toshibas. In fact I still have my old DOS/Windows 3.1 Satellite 120Mhz Pentium laptop and a couple months ago I plugged it in to look for an old game and it powered right up and still runs (That thing is over 10 years old).

There are cheaper laptops and there are better laptops, but for value I think the Toshibas are #1.

I currently use a Satellite A65-S126 and have not had a single problem with it. I dropped by here to look for some software and stumbled on this entry so I figured I'd drop a positive note while I was here.

About hte only thing I'd ask for is better battery life. Newer Intel "M" processors get significantly better battery life. Also be aware that all modern Li-Ion batteries have a limited shelf life. The clock starts ticking when they are manufactured and they really only last a year or two. Afterwards they will give you very limited time. Brand new my battery lasted about 2-1/2 hrs, nowadays I'm only good for about a half hour before I run dry.

1.0 out of 5 stars Heats Up & Shuts Down, June 18, 2008
This review is from: Toshiba Satellite A65-S126 Laptop (2.80 GHz Celeron, 256 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD-CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
Mine heats up too. It does this if I do anything intensive. If it just sits there doing nothing it will stay on.

Piece of garbage. I did clean out the air vent. It was a real pain as I had to take the entire computer apart to do so. 1000 screws on the back to undo, undo hard drive, wireless card, memory, keyboard. Don't do this because it aint worth the work and you will probably really mess up the inside of your computer because it is a VERY delicate operation.

Anyhow, it didn't work. Its not the air vent - mine was barely dusty. Put this laptop on a cold pak to use it, that's all you can do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Will not buy another Toshiba Laptop, May 17, 2007

I have the Toshiba Satellite A65-S1066, and have had nothing but problems with it. It's been sent to the shop multiple times for overheating and shutting down. Also, the hinges for the screen are very flimsy and have the ability to break easy. This product is becoming increasingly frustrating, I will not be purchasing another Toshiba laptop.
