I purchased my Satellite 15 months ago and have loved it until two weeks ago when the 2 USB ports on the right-hand side came loose and fell inside. I took the computer to a repair shop and was told this is a common issue with Toshiba laptops due to the weld Toshiba uses for the ports; they couldn't repair it but could send it in to Toshiba for repair -- at a cost of $400! I contacted Toshiba and was told that since I was 5 months out of warranty, they could repair it, but it would cost me ... $400! If you go online and search for Toshiba USB Port problems, you will find a slew of people that have experienced the same issue with their Toshiba laptops, even current year models. Save your money and purchase a different brand of laptop.

Purchased this laptop in February. The DVD/CD Drive is located so close to the power plug going into the laptop that you cannot open the drive without either unplugging the laptop, or pushing the power cord out of the way. After doing this a few times, the power cord no longer works. Cannot operate the laptop at all, since the battery has run down and there is no longer any way to use the power cord.

Called Toshiba Customer Service, since the laptop is still under warranty. They told me that this is considered damage to the laptop and I'll have to pay $175 to repair what is clearly a manufacturing problem or defect. Whoever heard of a laptop where you couldn't open the drive without unplugging it?

I was told that I could contact a case manager, or whatever it is their title is - couldn't quite understand the person I was talking to - between 8 AM and 8 PM Eastern time, but that they were going to refer the matter and I should expect a call back. So far there's been no further contact with Toshiba, and the two attempts I've made to contact them myself have resulted in dropped calls.

The price of the laptop is good, but I guess the adage "You get what you pay for" applies. I've had Toshiba products before, including a top of the line laptop. Never had any problem with their quality before this purchase. But I can assure you that I will never own another Toshiba product, and advise anyone thinking about buying electronics to think twice about purchasing anything from Toshiba.

I purchased this product in April. Within three months, it will not turn on. I believe the hard drive is defective, but have not dissambled the laptop. I have had to call Toshiba customer service 18 times to get them to repair it. Twice, they have sent it back and claim it is fine. You also have to mail it to them at your own expense. Horrible piece of junk. I have heard that Lenovo and Dell are the only PC's with effective customer service.

As a professional blogger at Spend Less and Save More, I was looking for a quality laptop for an affordable price. That is exactly what I got with this Toshiba. It is fast, has a decent battery life and comes with enough basics that I am able to get done what I need to. Love the numeric keypad on the side that my former laptop didn't have and the large size of this laptop gives your the feel of a desktop as far as keypad and screen dimensions go. I have had this laptop for 3 months and have not had one problem and am over all impressed with this computer.

Bought Toshiba laptop for my son in college. Worked very well for 3 months. Then there was a problem with the system fan. No biggie until we shipped it into Toshiba for repair - using Toshiba supplied packing material. Toshiba repair depot called to say they would not repair the unit because it was damaged - a cracked screen. I know for a fact that there was no such crack in the unit when it was shipped. Called Toshiba and they told us that it was received that way and we had to pay $300+ to have it repaired. When we told them it was not shipped that way, we were told that we would have to file a claim with UPS. Got the royal run around - took almost 2 WEEKS to finally get someone to give us the right number to call at UPS. Then UPS told us that we had to have the original box to file a claim - which Toshiba said after 5 or 10 more phone calls that they don't have and could not certify that it was damaged or not. "Customer Services" (hah!) was rude and entirely unhelpful Kept giving us the royal runaround on phone call after phone call.

After 4 months and dozens of phone calls with hours on hold, we still do not have a repaired laptop. Total waste of money. We tried to be nice, cooperative, and patient, but that got us nowhere. Tried to get firm and ask for supervisor to help settle this "catch-22" and was told that there was nothing anyone would do to help. Repeatedly LIED to by people on the support line and transferred to wrong departments and given wrong numbers to call back or UPS. TOTALLY INCOMPETENT and UNRESPONSIVE.

I will NEVER buy another laptop or other Toshiba product again and I urge you to seriously consider whether you want to take the chance on never needing customer support or repairs.
